To our valued clients:

We have always tried our best to accommodate immediate prescription refills, however this is becoming more of a challenge as we are often extremely busy. We are asking our clients to give at least 24hrs notice for prescription refills moving forward. We understand that this will be an adjustment for some but we truly hope you understand.

Weird Horse Fact

Horses cannot burp or vomit.

They have a very strong muscle ring called the cardiac sphincter at the entrance to their stomachs. This structure makes sure any food that enters the stomach cannot exit. Vomiting is a protection system; it rids the stomach of possible food-related intolerances, such as poisons, bacteria, and viral infections. It is thought then that this inability in horses to vomit has another purpose. When horses run, their intestines hammer on their stomach, causing pressure to build up. If their sphincter valve opened under pressure, horses would vomit every time they ran. In the wild, where horses are prey, if the horse vomited, eventually, the predator would catch its prey. **WARNING** We are seeing an increasing number of kennel cough cases, some developing into pneumonia. Please be very cautious with allowing your dog to mingle with other dogs. It appears that this strain is a bit more persistent than ones seen in the past. We urge you to keep dogs home and away from others.

Some facts regarding Kennel Cough:

How does a dog contract Kennel Cough?
Any one of these common situations can put your dog at increased risk:

Dog park visits

Grooming

Day Care

Boarding

Multi-dog households

Training Classes

Daily walks or contact with other dogs

Chronic heart or lung disease

Compromised Immune System

Commercial transport

Recent adoption from shelter, rescue

Pet store visits

Is Your Dog at Risk?
Yes, all dogs are at risk for Kennel Cough. Hereโ€™s why: Kennel Cough is easily transmitted when dogs cough or come in contact with each other or with contaminated surfaces. Even brief contact with an infected surface such as a bush or sidewalk is enough to transmit kennel cough.

Kennel Cough can survive outside for a limited time (about half an hour), but is highly contagious until that point. You can also transmit kennel cough from an infected dog on your hands, shoes, and clothing.

Puppies are at greater risk for Kennel Cough if they have not been vaccinated yet or have not been previously exposed to Kennel Cough. Even vaccinated dogs may still contract Kennel Cough, as no vaccine exists to cover every strain, which does mutate rapidly.
