Today has been one of my hardest since I lost my girls and then Bruno
I had to say goodbye to my sweet Dexterdog, my Ddog, my Colonel Clink
When I first met him, I was reeling from the lost of my 2 girls, Lucy and Maggie so close together.
I didn’t want anything to do with Dexter.
He was determined though.
Everytime I came over to his foster mom’s home, he would sit with me and love on me.
He was so needy and affectionate but I just couldn’t get my heart to open up.
Dexter had so many health issues, overweight with a stage 3 heart murmur and such bad dental.
I just couldn’t deal with another unhealthy dog.
But my friend, who was his foster mom, decided along with Dexter that I was perfect for him.
It turns out it was Dexter that was perfect for me.
A little of Lucy, a little of Maggie and a whole lotta love bug was exactly what Dexter was.
He lived his life with purpose and with happiness
Every day he enjoyed the little things….
Like napping with his chickies
Peeing on every tree in the yard
Rolling on the grass, especially if there was something stinky on the grass
Breaking into the pasture to hang with the horses
Patrolling the perimeter
Thank you Dexter for showing me I could love again.

There’s a saying……
Once in every dog lover’s life, if you’re lucky, your special once-in-a-lifetime-dog comes along. You’ll know it when it happens.

I have to say that I’m very lucky because I’ve been blessed with having 4 very special dogs call me mom so far in my lifetime.

where it all started...

I started Awesome Doggie Den back in 2010 because I was going thru some hard times with the recent loss of my mom, then my grandmother and finally my dad. I always felt more at peace with my doggies and found they really comforted me and gave me hope and love. It started with caring for my neighbour’s dogs and taking them for walks. Branching out to taking a few dogs in my area to the dog park and talking to other crazy dog people. Meeting other people who treated their dogs like I did...we are a rare breed lol. Best decision of my life..I went back to driving truck full time for a few more years but my heart wasn't in it anymore. I wanted to be with my dogs and my visitor dogs. I’m glad I finally took the leap and started caring for dogs full time because my life has truly been enriched and they saved me.
