Gratitude fills me for the incredible horses I've had the privilege to jockey and train. Riding these exceptional individuals has granted me a profound understanding of the nuances that define a high-caliber horse, guiding my training methods accordingly. I'm dedicated to a natural, noninvasive training approach, ensuring optimal results in horse training. The trust and partnership I build with each horse are at the core of our successful journey together.

On another note, I've compiled a few videos from my phone to showcase my riding skills. As my page gains new followers, here are some fun facts about me: My name is Aleasha Meloshinsky

- I spent several years as a kid immersed in the 4-H program, laying a solid foundation for my equestrian journey.
- In 2017, I ventured to Texas to intern with an NRHA $4 million rider (Casey Deary), expanding my knowledge beyond local teachings. I later rode for Abby Lengel before returning to Canada.
- Growing up riding reining and AQHA show horses has provided me with a robust foundation to train barrel horses beyond the pattern.
- I dedicated a year to working with a CFR qualifier Barrel racer, honing skills and exploring different training methods required in the Barrel Racing pen.

Looking forward to sharing more insights and experiences with my growing community. 🐎✨

Hey everyone! 👋 After a revitalizing two-year hiatus from full-time training, I'm elated to reactivate this page. The challenges of managing a barn full of client horses since the age of 16 left me burnt out, but riding a few client horses during my break has rekindled my passion. I return with renewed energy, enriched experience, and well-defined boundaries. In the past two years, I immersed myself in barrel racing, prompting me to part ways with my reining and show horses. While my love for training endures, I'm thrilled to embark on a new chapter, extending my expertise to jockeying barrel horses. Looking forward to sharing my journey and warmly welcoming more horses into my care this year! 🐎✨

🌟 Collection 🌟

Definitely my favourite topic. Ever.

I could talk about it forever…

Here are 10 Fun facts I’d like to point out today to give you a better understanding…

1.)Contact and collection are two very different things. Probably the most common mistake I see in both owners and trainers.

2.)Collection comes from your horse pushing from the hind end with impulsion, essentially lifting the whither and freeing up the weight on the front end. It doesn’t have much to do with the Neck, or Head. Those come from softness given with collection.

3.)Your horse must be able to move laterally in order to teach proper collection.

4.)Your horse must understand self carriage in all gates on a loose rein, before it’s ready to collect

5.)Collection involves training correct body position in your horse, one piece at a time.

6.)Collection can be done with, or without mouth contact, when your horse understand collection.

7.)Collection can not be taught by pulling straight back, and restricting your horses movement.

8.)Horses use Collection not just in Walk, Trotting, and Loping. They should use it in every task they are doing including, pivoting, side passing, Sliding, lead changes… etc..

8.)Your horse must understand the basics before even starting to teach Collection which is what makes it such a long task from start to finish.

10.)There is no timeline on how long it will take for your horse to self carry collection. 3 Months can create a Great foundation of it, but my personal finished horses I have trained on 2 Years every ride creating horses that independent stay collected on their own out of good habit and are easy to get recollected.

Bonus one cause I can’t stop talking about it once it gets on my brain 🤪 Depending on your horses build, it will be Easier and harder for some horses. Short backed, strong hind-quarter horses will have a easier time.

This is just a quick dip into my thoughts this morning! Not coming close to covering everything or even covering how I teach it. I feel I have a very solid program around collection, and ways to create good riding habits..

Happy Ponies back to work after a quick Christmas break 🎄 (and a brutal cold snap!)

You know the weather has been bad when it felt warm today at a high temperature of -11 at the barn 😅

All the horses in my program had a good lunge, roll, and play in the round pen… They were definitely all as excited as I was about the warmer temps ! 🌡

❄️ Brrrr…

To blanket or to not blanket?

Owners often ask me if they should be bringing a blanket for there training horses… Which always sparks conversation about appropriate blanketing.

Coming from the Wet Coast it was always essential to blanket to avoid rain rot, but I really enjoy living in the Okanagan as it’s dry enough that there is a option.

For a simple answer YES all my training horses are required to be blanketed. But not because they need a blanket to survive or stay warm, it’s for my own convenience. It cuts down drastically on time I spend brushing, plus putting a saddle on a soaking wet horse is never fair. I also find it gives them a better chance to avoid colds, incase they work up a swet during exercise.

That being said, for the average healthy horse…. if I have the opportunity to give them a blanket-less winter I would absolutely not blanket them. If a blanket isn’t being taken off daily they will get itchy under them, you won’t be able to determine weight easily, or know if the blanket is rubbing them. Blankets also have to be changed as the weather changes, failure to do so could make them sick. You are better off relying on Natural hair growth for warmth as it’s a easier way to regulate body temperature if you don’t have the resources to take blankets on and off as needed.

Quick tip 💡 If you are worried about your horse being cold I recommend you up the hay intake! Along with all the other health reasons horses need plenty of option at hay throughout the day and night, Horses stay warm by eating!

I hope this answers the question on whether I blanket my training horses. There are a ton of variables but I find this the simplest way to explain.
