Brutus is used to being in the line of fire. During his career in Fredericton he was shot at twice, and both times he played an integral part in solving the shootings.

Brutus was born in Innisfail, Alberta at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police kennels and worked his entire career with the Fredericton Police Force. His central location meant that Brutus was often called in to assist the Woodstock City Police, the Canadian Armed Forces, Canada Border Services Agency, and the RCMP.

During one of his final police operations, Brutus completed a nearly 6km track, apprehended the suspect and located 10 pieces of evidence too. All in a day’s work for a hero with paws.

In his off time, Brutus loves to ham it up by walking on his hind legs, human style. His fondness for acting also appears when he’s asked to do something he doesn’t like by baring his teeth in mock outrage. But in reality Brutus the “big mean police dog” is really a soft touch and insists on starting each day with a family cuddle.

Thank you, to those who served, to those who sacrificed, and to those who continue to teach our children what so many fought and died for.

This month we honour our 4 legged veterans and thank for supporting them in their retirement.

Frank & Tank were like Batman & Robin but real life superheroes of the Nation’s Capital!

Tank is not a stranger to the Parliament, as he and his handler, Frank, were posted to Ottawa, to work with the RCMP’s Explosives Disposal Unit. Born on November 21, 2013, in Innisfail, PSD Tank comes from the grass roots of Alberta. Tank made it big in Ottawa, spending his career with the RCMP, performing preventative sweeps for explosives for the Prime Minister and many other visiting state dignitaries. Tank is not the first dog from Parliament Hill to have registered with Ned’s Wish, our recent Hero PSD Ivy / Evette, Reg # 945, also worked in the same unit in Ottawa.

In his retirement, Tank still loves to fetch. When there is nobody from his human family available to throw his ball to fetch, Tank picks up rocks and brings them to strangers to throw them for him. Oh how tables have turned: Tank is training humans to work for him. Welcome to Ned’s Wish and have a blast, Tank!

This month we honour our 4 legged veterans and thank for supporting them in their retirement

Freda worked the entirety of her career in Grande Prairie, Alberta but was able to travel throughout Canada when needed. One of the times she was able to travel was when she was part of the G7 Summit in Quebec City. It was truly exciting for her to be there!

In her retirement, Freda absolutely loves playing and tormenting her fellow sister dog. At first she can be a bit enthusiastic, but eventually she calms down and both dogs enjoy their time together!

Currently Freda is experiencing throat and teeth issues. Teeth issues are common amongst different breeds of dogs. It is important to take care of their teeth and brush them just like humans!

Freda was born on April 29, 2013 in Innisfail, Alberta at the Police Dog Service Training Centre. She is fully retired from the RCMP.

This month we honour our 4 legged veterans and thank for supporting our K-9 heroes in their retirement.

Jordan is the third retired Canadian Armed Forces dog to join the Ned’s Wish pack. Jordan is a Dutch Shepherd, who was born in the United States, but made Canada his home and native land. This soldier was deployed overseas on several occasions, serving at the tip of the national defence spear, and worked alongside his handlers to keep his fellow soldiers safe and his country proud.

In his retirement, Jordan is obsessed with his toys. His human had to get used to being intensely stared at for a minimum of 16 hours a day. This may be a sign Jordan was trained in psychological warfare. Luckily, Jordan’s other retirement hobby is sleeping, which gives his human a bit of time off from that intense gaze. Jordan now spends his time enjoying exploring Canada’s great outdoors accompanied with humans and his new best friend, labradoodle Murphy.

Welcome to Ned’s Wish Jordan!

This month we honour our 4 legged veterans and thank for supporting our K-9 heroes in their retirement

Retired PSD Ivy comes from the Nation’s Capital, Ottawa, where she served as an Explosive Detection Dog posted with the Joint Explosives Unit. Ivy is not a stranger to Ottawa’s high ranking politicians as she was responsible for explosive sweeps of Parliament and other government offices for the Prime Minister and other high profile dignitaries!

Ivy was born in Innisfail on April 3, 2012 and has earned her retirement. She is living the posh life with her human family and follows her human everywhere to ensure safety and comfort.. Ivy is suffering from a mild hip and hind leg discomfort, but it has not slowed her down.

We are happy to welcome Ivy to our family!

While working dogs may give off the impression of being tough with no-nonsense personalities, Bruno loves nothing more than to play dress-up with his family. He joins the Ned’s Wish family after a short, but successful career with the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). Bruno is a seven-year-old Belgian Malinois who came to Canada by way of Europe and served in the CAF from 2017 to 2020. Tipping the scales at 95lbs, Bruno is as large in size as he is in character. He took on every task asked of him with eagerness and a zest for work. Unfortunately, his size made it difficult for him to perform some of the tasks required. He also had some mental hurdles that he was unable to overcome. As such, Brunoretired from the CAF early. In his retirement, Bruno can be found napping with the family cat – who is the only one who can put up with Bruno’s non-stop playfulness. As a bit of a water dog, he loves disappearing on his new property to take a dip in the lake. Bruno’s affection for his people means he tags along to soccer and hockey, but the one thing Bruno loves more than anything is a jar of fresh peanut butter!

Recently, Bruno was reunited with his old kennel mate Kito and together they’re making mischief for their adopted family.

Ned’s Wish is honoured to have another hero who served their country join the family.

This month we honour our 4 legged veterans and thank Ned's Wish for their support of retired K-9 hero’s.
If you’re a morning person, you’re gonna love our newest hero, Kito! He joins the Ned’s Wish family after a long and successful career serving his country with the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). Kito is a nine-year-old Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd Mix who came to Canada from Europe and started his service as a dual-purpose K9 in the CAF in 2014. He’s worked in many environments from the temperate and cold climates of Canada to those hotter and dustier. Kito loves to work and has a silver tooth to prove it, but it’s his addiction to Chuck-it Balls & Kongs that earned him the nickname cocaino man from his human teammates. In retirement, Kito pounces on his new family early every morning so that he can get his play on and maximize the day! As a bonus, Kito’s been united with his old kennel mate Bruno – enjoying his retirement in good company.

Ned’s Wish is honoured to have another hero who served their country join the family.

Wodan is a nine year old Belgian Malinois who bravely served in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) since 2015. He was born in Holland and had a full career in the CAF that included operational and training deployments abroad as a dual purpose K9. He retired in the fall of ‘22, but Wodan’s service and vigour for job required a decision to extract his lower incisors which were worn down below the gum line and he has been diagnosed with arthritis in his hips which will call for regular check ups at the vet. While his arthritis makes the stairs tough in the morning and he’s definitely a snuggler, he hasn’t slowed down one bit! Beyond cuddling his new mom and demanding belly rubs from every other person on the street, he loves making snow angels, chasing his ball and stealing his retired hero brother Kody’s toys .
