We are two weeks away from the Community of the Whole meeting at the Township of Drummond and North Elmsley where we hope to win support for the bylaw amendment allowing us to continue our life saving work at Furry Tales Cat Rescue.

With 174 in care, you can't imagine the stress we’re feeling at the thought that we may be required to close down. We are a registered charity in good standing with CRA and the Charities Commission.

Our total adoption figure of 7856 since 2015 does not include the low cost spays and neuters we have sponsored, or the hundreds of TNR cats we have spayed and returned to their homes.

Our petition has reached over 5500 signatures because the community believes that we are doing good work for the cats and members of the communities. Our volunteers look forward to their visits - some who are seniors and disabled persons who view this as a necessary social outing. Think of cats like Hercules and Bruno and Trooper and Neo who have found a wonderful new life filled with love, after years of suffering.

Let's hope the outcome is successful.

FRENCH GOVERNMENT ASK FOR AN OVERHAUL OF EQUINE WELFARE FOR OLYMPICS 2024

I'm a bit late with this news but wanted to share it in case you'd missed it. The French Parliament have produced a lengthy report asking the organising committee of the Olympic Games for a complete overhaul of the rules regarding equestrian sport (completely bypassing the FEI!). Their aim is to make Paris 2024 the Olympic Games of equine welfare.

The report has 46 recommendations to improve welfare across all disciplines. There is a section on the use of equipment, including banning the use of draw reins, the use of gag bits in the cross country and elevator bits being used together with martingales. They are asking for a review of nosebands (including cranks and grackles) and for noseband tightness to be checked using the ISES taper gauge. They would like a ban on riders using hyperflexion anywhere on the showground, referring to hyperflexion as 'any head and neck position where the nose is behind the vertical'.

The report also recommends a ban on use of the whip more than once per event and more than twice during the warm-up. They want to prohibit an overly constrained posture and authorise riding without spurs in dressage.

Are the recommended changes really enough to improve horse welfare in sport? Will this report change anything? If the recommendations are put in place, will the rules actually be enforced? This is a remarkable step for a country's government to take, but there were so many concerns about horse welfare at the Tokyo Olympics, I think this move was absolutely necessary if the public is to continue supporting equestrian sport.

Together we have raised and DONATED over $35,000.00 in our second year. That's a TOTAL of over $62,000.00 in TWO YEARS since we became The HolliBell Foundation.

We could not have done this without YOUR support!!

To all those that participate in our donation fundraisers - we THANK-you. Whether you donate items, funding or time, we appreciate your support.

Finances are such stress for so many rescues and families and we are so happy to work towards helping them out!.

Of course we would have announced all this at our Walk A Thon (like last year) but since we can't have any events - here we are!

Where has this money gone? Here is a breakdown (roughly) so you see how your dollars help

Families in need - $6570 (help with service dog fees, emergency surgery, vet bills that are just out of reach)

Rescues - $20,560 (emergency support, general funding, vet bills)

Spay and Neuter - $3980 (helping to provide lower cost)**we hope this value will go up higher next year :)

Food - $2229 (supplies and food)

Other - $1733 (microchips, crates, live traps etc - items that rescues need but just don't have funding for)

We thank-you for the bottom of our hearts.

And to think......this all started with a simple CUPCAKE.......

Winter is on its way! If you need help winterizing your barn,checking blankets or hauling in a load of shavings give me a shout!
