Crystal Breault is celebrating 20 years of being an RVT. She graduated from Lakeland College and now lives in Mazenod, SK where she works in Assiniboia. Since graduating she has worked at McCarthy Veterinary Services and then at Assiniboia Veterinary Clinic.

The reason Crystal wanted to be an RVT is that she wanted to work with animals, but didn’t want to be a veterinarian. Her favourite part about being an RVT is working with the clinic staff and the animals. However, the worst part is working in the cold weather.

Crystal’s passions are classic cars and spending time with her family, while her hobbies are collecting Elvis memorabilia.

Congratulations, Crystal!

We wish everyone a happy thanksgiving, and would like to warn of the possible risks of feeding your pets thanksgiving foods

Feeding dogs and cats foods that are high in fat and protein like turkey, ham, ham bones or cabbage rolls can cause gastrointestinal upset as well as the possibility of pancreatitis. The symptoms of these can include vomiting, diarrhea and dehydration with a chance of more severe complications requiring hospitalization.

October is Animal Health month and RVT week is from October 16th to 22nd!
RVTs are a vital part of any clinic and we sure rely on ours on a daily basis
The attached video explains what an RVT is and how important their roles are

Porcupine Quill Season

Dogs come into the clinic year round after interactions with porcupines, but we see an increase during the fall.
We DO NOT RECOMMEND having owners try to pull the quills on their own.
This can cause the dog to become agitated and aggressive therefore requiring more drugs for sedation and increased cost.

Pulling quills without proper sedation and technique can also cause the quills to break and become lodged within the skin. Retained porcupine quills can lead to infection and possible migration of the quills.

Please call the clinic at 306-642-4447 with a heads up so our team can be ready to help your animals!
