Parvovirus-What is it?

▶Parvovirus is a very serious virus that dogs and puppies can contract. It is spread through contaminated feces-but can also live on surfaces that have been contaminated.
▶If your dog has received their full puppy vaccinations and core vaccines throughout adulthood, then they have a VERY LOW risk of contracting the disease.
▶Parvovirus is part of our core vaccinations at Aylmer Veterinary Clinic, but if you are unsure if your pet has received this-please give us a call!

Symptoms to look for:
➡bloody diarrhea
➡vomiting
➡lethargy
➡lack of appetite

Parvovirus in dogs is highly contagious and can be deadly- the best course of action is to vaccinate, avoid any dogs whose vaccine history you don't know, high traffic public trails and dog parks.

As always if you have any questions or concerns please give us a call! 🐾

Here are some pet safety tips to keep in mind this weekend:

• Keep pets inside and away from loud noises like fireworks
• Make sure microchip and ID info is up to date
• Keep BBQ treats and alcoholic drinks out of reach
• Create a safe, quiet space if your pet gets anxious

Let’s celebrate safely—for the whole family! 🐶🐱

***UPDATE***
We were unable to locate an owner and some lovely people from Myrtle Animal Rescue reached out and offered to care for the dogs until fingers crossed an owner can be found or if unfortunately rehoming is needed.

Please reach out to Myrtle Animal Rescue if you have any information about who the owner of these pups might be!

Thanks for the help ❤️

‼️FOUND DOGS‼️

These two cuties were brought into the clinic just now to be scanned for a microchip.

They were found in Rotary Park here in Aylmer on Elm Street!

Both dogs are not microchipped and have no tags.

If you have any idea on who the owner may be please call the clinic at 519-773-3911

🌡️It is HOT out there-protect your pets during this Heat Warning!🌡️

We are experiencing a significant heat event in our area-and our furry friends are at serious risk of heat stroke—a life-threatening condition that can happen FAST. Dogs and cats can't cool down like we do, and even just a few minutes in extreme heat can be dangerous.

Watch for signs:
🐶 Excessive panting
🐱 Drooling
🥵 Lethargy or confusion
🚨 Vomiting or collapse

Prevention tips:
✅ NEVER leave pets in a parked car (even with the windows cracked!)
✅ Keep walks short and only during cooler times of the day
✅ Always provide fresh water and shade
✅ Keep your pets indoors as much as possible

Let’s keep our pets safe and cool this summer! 💧🐾

Happy Take Your Dog to Work Day from Merlin and Dr. Thomson! 🐶

Our furry friends are the best coworkers we could ask for-from wagging tails and belly rubs, to productivity (kind of 😅).

It's safe to say these pups are employee of the month material. 💼

Drop a pic of your office pup in the comments—we’d love to see them! 🐾💙
