The holiday season can be fun for everyone, including your furry friends, but it’s important to keep them safe! Here are a few things to watch out for:

✨ Tinsel & Ornaments: They may look like fun toys, but they can cause serious harm if swallowed.
💡 Lights & Cords: Chewing on cords can be deadly, and candles pose a burn or fire hazard.
🍫 Holiday Treats: Avoid giving your pets fat trimmings, bones, chocolate, candies, and cookies—these can lead to serious health issues.
🌿 Plants: Pine needles, holly, mistletoe, and poinsettia plants are toxic to pets, so keep them out of reach.
🎀 Ribbons: As playful as they may seem, ribbons can be a choking hazard and cause internal blockages if swallowed.

Including your dogs (and horses) in holiday festivities can be a fun and heartwarming experience, and what better way than making some homemade gingerbread treats just for them! Gingerbread cookies are a classic holiday favorite, and with a few tweaks, you can create a dog-friendly version that’s both safe and delicious.

Here’s a simple recipe idea to keep your furry friends in on the holiday fun:

Gingerbread for Dogs & Horses

Ingredients
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 cup molasses
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Directions
- Preheat oven to 325°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone baking mat.
- Whisk together dry ingredients in a medium bowl.
- In a small bowl, whisk together molasses, water, and oil. Using a wooden spoon, slowly mix liquid ingredients into the flour mixture stirring until well-combined and uniform in color.
- Roll or pat dough to 1/4-inch thick and cut into shapes.
- Bake for 20 minutes and allow cookies to cool on baking sheet.
- Store treats in an airtight container at room temperature or in freezer for up to 3 months.
