Meet Tigger! He came in for an exam back in May when he was feeling very sick. He was diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). This was a very scary time for him and his mom, and the whole team here at Animal Hospital on Bell Farm Road was scared for him as well. ❤️

Thankfully, we’d heard about a clinical trial for FIP led by Dr Jeff Aramini at South Tower Animal Hospital in Fergus and reached out to them for help. They quickly took on the referral and were able to start helping Tigger within a matter of days. 🏥

Tigger continued to visit us periodically throughout his treatment with Dr Aramini and the FIP Gladiators to have bloodwork run so the trial could monitor his progress. Getting to see Tigger continue to improve and eventually graduate from the trial brought us so much joy. 😸

We’re all so grateful for the FIP Gladiators trial and the lives it has saved. Tigger is just one of many success stories! Now that he’s all better, we get to continue seeing him in hospital but only for routine appointments like wellness exams. 🐾

The holidays are coming up soon! While this time is full of fun and joy, it also brings some hazards to keep away from pets. 🐾

Be aware of the following this holiday season:
💡 Christmas lights - pets can get tangled in them
🎄 Ornaments and decorations - could be chewed/eaten and result in foreign body obstructions
🍫 Holiday treats - many festive ingredients, such as chocolate and xylitol are toxic to pets
🌺 Plants - mistletoe, holly, and other seasonal plants are poisonous to pets
🕯️ Candles - can get knocked over by pets and create a fire hazard
🚪 Open Doors - more guests coming over means there are more chances for pets to sneak out

What holiday hazards can you think of that we may have missed? Do you have any creative solutions for keeping pets away from dangers during the festive season? Let us know in the comments!

Bandit has been staying with us as an in-patient. His stay has included lots of R&R time in our manager Renata’s office and well as snuggles and walks with the whole team. ❤️ He’s a big fan of the snow (much more than the humans here at Animal Hospital on Bell Farm) and he loves showing his toys off to anyone and everyone. 🐾 His presence here has added some extra light to the clinic.

With the holidays around the corner, you and your pets may be hitting the road to visit family. Having a pet first aid kit is always a good idea, but it’s especially important to have when travelling. Here are some suggestions of what to include in yours:

✅ Sterile gauze pads
✅ Cotton balls/cotton tip applicators
✅ Antiseptic towelettes/spray
✅ Antibiotic ointment
✅ Disposable gloves
✅ Tweezers
✅ Styptic powder
✅ A spare collar and leash / carrier for small pets
✅ A muzzle
✅ Sterile saline
✅ Tick remover
✅ Emergency blanket
✅ Drinking water

Can you think of anything else that should be included? Comment below with suggestions or questions.

Always keep in mind that a first aid kit is meant to tide you over until you get to the vet. It’s not a replacement for proper veterinary care.

Get started with your dog’s training at The Dog Training Studio! 🎓

Junior Kindergarten is for puppies under 5 months old who want to get started off in life on the right paw. Basic obedience is introduced as well as socialization, confidence building, and more. 🖍️

Tricks Club is for dogs of all experience levels who want to learn fun behaviours to show off their training skills. Class is taught by a Do More With Your Dog! Certified Trick Dog Instructor, which means you can have tricks witnessed for titles if desired. 🎒

Scent Club introduces dogs to the sport of scent detection. This uses the same training and skills as police dogs who search for drugs or other illicit substances, but we use essential oils for sport. Dogs and handlers of all experience levels are encouraged to sign up. 📚
