We have some changes to our regular hours for next week. Please plan accordingly. 🐾

We will be closing early at 4:00pm on Wednesday, March 12th so Dr Singh can attend at continuing education lecture. We look forward to bringing increased knowledge to the practice! 🧠

We will reopen at 9:00am on Thursday, March 13th; however, we will be closed from 1:30-3:00pm that day for a staff meeting. After 3:00pm, our hours will resume as usual and we will be open until 7:00pm. 🩺

We are so grateful to our clients who continue to support Animal Hospital on Bell Farm Road and who send referrals our way. ❤️ As the business grows, we are getting more and more requests for prescriptions. In order to allow our staff adequate time to fill these, we are asking to receive 48 hours notice for any prescription requests. Do you know why bloodwork is recommended so frequently during vet visits? 🩸

1️⃣ Doing routine bloodwork with your pet provides us with baseline values so we have an even better idea of what their normal is. This way, if they are ever sick and we run bloodwork, we know if something being slightly low or high is worth worrying about.

2️⃣ When a sick patient presents to the hospital, we can’t ask them about what they are feeling so bloodwork is often the best indication for us to know where to start looking if their outward symptoms aren’t providing a clear enough picture.

3️⃣ Bloodwork provides us with information about multiple organ systems. A basic blood panel provides results very quickly, so it’s a great way for us to get a look at many things all at once.

4️⃣ Routine bloodwork is especially important for senior pets, but it can be helpful to point out areas for concern in all pets before they even display symptoms. This means issues can be addressed earlier to help expand your pet’s lifespan.

5️⃣ Anesthesia is not one-size-fits-all. Pre-anesthetic bloodwork helps us see if there are any underlying concerns that indicate surgery may not be appropriate, but it also helps to guide us in choosing the best anesthesia for each individual patient.

Dr Singh will be away at the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association from the afternoon of Wednesday, January 29th until the evening of Sunday, February 2nd. As such, our hours will be a little different than usual:

Wednesday, January 29th: 9am to 4pm
(Vet appointments end at 2pm)

Thursday, January 30th: 12pm to 7pm
(Tech appointments only)

Friday, January 31st: 9am to 2pm
(Tech appointments only)

Saturday, February 1st: Closed

Up next as our featured patient is Clyde! We absolutely adore this fellow. His humans bring him in regularly to keep him in tip-top shape and he’s always so well taken care of by them. ❤️

If you were to say that vet visits are scary, Clyde would agree. However, he does such a good job at putting on a brave face when he comes in for appointments. We’re so proud of him for facing his fears! We do our best to meet him where he’s at so his visits can be as stress-free as possible. 🐾

We’ve been seeing lots of puppies at the clinic recently (how exciting!) so we thought we’d give our clients a few tips to help out with their puppy training. 🐾

Keeping training sessions short helps to keep your puppy’s brain engaged in what they are doing. Dogs, especially baby puppies, have short attention spans so training for too long means they will get bored. Instead of setting aside long chunks of time to train, spend 1-2 minutes a few times a day in between your regular tasks to keep your puppy excited about learning! 📚

When you’re done training, do something with your puppy that they enjoy. This will make them like learning even more because it always leads to fun things! Plan to do some of your 1-2 minute sessions before walks and mealtimes to easily integrate this strategy. For sessions where you don’t have anything planned, spend a few minutes after training playing with your pup. 🎒

Due to popular demand, we’ve scheduled another Saturday Scent Club time slot! Scent detection is all about teaching your dog to look for hidden scents similar to how police dogs search for drugs. In sport, we just use essential oils instead. All experience levels are welcome!

Upcoming Scent Club start dates:
Saturday, January 18th at 3:00pm (FULL)
Saturday, January 18th at 4:00pm (one spot left)
Monday, January 20th at 7:00pm (FULL)

Tricks Club introduces you and your dog to fun behaviours for whatever experience level you are at! Tricks can be learned just for fun or to earn titles since class is taught by a Do More With Your Dog! Certified Trick Dog Instructor. Regardless of your goals, trick training is great for building your relationship with your dog.
