Our last "One Hoof At A Time" session of the year is on Monday, Dec 2 at 5pm. This is tailored for professionals in Uniform affected by PTSD.

BRENTWOOD, ON (About 5 min from CFB Borden)

We don't talk about trauma.
We focus on rebuilding skills that may have been lost along the way, such as the ability to say no, to ask for help, to define your personal space; our horses help with a big chunk of the communication and self confidence.
We don't pretend to do therapy, we are offering support through horses.
We have 10 spots open on a first come, first serve basis, and thanks to our community sponsors, there is no charge for participants in uniform or retired from uniform.
Homelife Emerald Realty Ltd. Brokerage has been with us for 7 years now, and we are so grateful for their financial support.

Email Maud at [email protected] or call 705-730-2285 to book your spot.

Come and see what we're all about.

Our next session for professionals in uniform affected by PTSD is next Monday, November 11 at 5pm.
It is Remembrance Day. I am quite willing to open more spots than the usual 10 if need be.

What do we do?
We use horses to help rebuild life skills. We work on communication, boundaries, confidence building.

Our horses offer non judgmental feedback. They meet you where you're at and work with you as you are.

If you're ready to try something new, reach out to Maud at [email protected] or 705 730 2285

Very kind words from our long time sponsors.

We have been proudly sponsoring New Horserizons for over 7 years. The work Maud & her team do with those suffering from PTSD is truly remarkable.

A little about the New Horserizons program:

New Horserizons uses the Cartier Farms EAL Building Block curriculum. Our programs are tailored specifically to meet the unique needs of members of the Canadian Armed Forces, First Responders, Correctional Officers, 911 Dispatchers and other uniformed professionals, active members and retired alike.

Our Equine Assisted Learning activities will always include a minimum of two humans and a horse. All our activities are conducted from the ground. The exercises will let you reflect on your own communication and negociation skills, and amongst other things, work on reasonable goal settings, while having fun in the company of horses.

If you would like more information about this program please contact Maud directly at 705-730-2285 or [email protected]

Below is the conclusion of a research conducted on the Psychophysiological effects of equine-facilitated psychotherapy on Veterans with PTSD and their horse partners

Conclusion
This study’s findings indicate that Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy has a beneficial effect on the response of individuals with PTSD while having no concomitant negative physiological effect on the welfare of horse participants. In addition, the state-versus-trait responses of individuals regarding perceived emotional response to the program is an interesting effect that might not be captured in this research, given that most of the human participants had very little to no experience with horses before involvement in the program. Hence, some of the responses measured may be a function of how individuals perceived direct interactions with the novel tasks of the intervention and their proximity to the larger animals.

LAY SUMMARY Veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) often struggle with emotion and impulse control, resulting in an inability to appropriately handle even minimal stress, which can lead to physiological dysregulation. This study used a variety of measures to assess the effect of equine-f...

This day has marked out modern world.

I remember being in the front yard with my horse, having come back from a ride. My mom drove in like her car was on fire and ran into the house. I thought my brother had had a car accident.
I joined her into the house to check on her and found her staring at the TV footage...

A lot changed that day...
