As we celebrate this festive season, let's remember to keep our pets safe and happy. Be mindful of the tempting holiday treats and decorations that could potentially harm our four-legged family members. π«π«π

π¦΄TRAINING TIP TUESDAY π¦΄
Providing enrichment for your pups doesnβt have to be difficult! Remember - bowls are boring! Come up with creative (or in this case - simple) ways to feed your dog. A few times a week Cooper, Amara and Piper enjoy their meal spread across the grass. They get to use their noses to find their kibbles and it takes them about 20-30 minutes to finish rather than the 2 minutes it would take if fed from a bowl.
πΎ Itβs important to note that if feeding multiple dogs you need to be sure they donβt have resource guarding concerns before feeding together.
Training Tip Tuesday πΌ
Teach your kitten to enjoy his crate from an early age. Feeding meals inside of the crate is a great way to get him used to being in the enclosed area. Keep the door open in the beginning; as your cat gets used to the crate, shut the door for short intervals. The more your kitten learns to enjoy his crate, the easier it will be to secure your cat for travel in the future.
It's Feature Friday!! π£π£
Precious Paws Rescue has some truly adorable puppies and adult dogs looking for loving homes right now and we're lucky to have helped out with vetting for many of them! This little lady is a 4 month old mixed breed puppy who is looking for her forever home!
Spring gets along famously with other dogs, cats and kids too. She is very sweet and smart. She can't wait to find an active family to be a part of and she's been waiting a long time to find her people! All of Spring's siblings have been adopted - who's going to take this adorable floof home?!
Check out her adoption profile online here; www.preciouspawsrescue.ca And help us spread the word by sharing this post!
Training Tip Tuesday! π¦΄
Handling skills are essential for puppies, kittens, adult dogs and adult cats too! Here are some things to practice at home that will make every day life, vet visits and grooming visits much easier for you and your furry friend.
From an early age start practicing:
β
Touching their feet
β
Touching their ears
β
Touching their tummy
β
Touching their tail
β
Having their nails trimmed
β
Putting their collar on and taking it off
β
Putting their harness on and taking it off
β
Giving them a bath
β
Drying them with a towel
β
Blow-drying them
β
Brushing them with different brushes
β
Touching the pads on the underside of their paws
β
Looking at their teeth
β
Gently moving their legs
Set your puppy or kitten up for success from an early age by doing these things daily! Whether your pet is young or adult, start slow, be consistent and offer lots of rewards that they love!
Training Tip Tuesday! π¦΄
The best socialization often happens during a well-run puppy class. What does "well-run" mean?
β
The trainer of the class should be a certified trainer and happy to show your their credentials.
β
Vaccination records should be a requirement for each puppy in the class to ensure puppies attending are up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations.
β
The training space should be clean and sanitized regularly.
β
Interactions between puppies should be monitored closely by the trainer to ensure no bullying or overly rough play occurs.
Training classes offer so many benefits to you and your puppy - even if you're an experienced dog owner!
Luna was a huge fan of her unicorn stuffy that she got to pick out after her heartworm test earlier this month! Don't forget to ask for one for your dog or cat if you're in for a visit - we've got lots left and they're free for all our amazing patients!
Mochi was here recently for his neuter surgery. Here he is demonstrating how awesome Fear Free visits (even for surgery!) can be with the help of a stuffed KONG toy once he was fully recovered from anesthesia. He loves coming in to see the Barrie Animal Hospital team, even after what could have been a stressful visit! β€
