An unnecessary gift from a beautiful family that had to say good-bye to one of their fur babies.
After multiple visits from Dr. Laura, exhausting all efforts and treatment, precious Ella was ready to get her wings 🪽
Because of Dr. Laura, Ella was able to peacefully pass with her incredible family and her other fur siblings along side her in her home. One of the greatest gifts we can give our babies.
Rest in peace sweet angel 🤍

Last week, we had the honour of helping a precious angel cross the rainbow bridge in the comfort of her home. We were able to provide a way for her family to cherish their memories by growing new life from her cremains with AWAKE soil. This family was blessed to have shared their lives with 2 other fur babies previously who they honoured with a private cremation; knowing AWAKE soil now exists, they also purchased kits for their other angels to honour them the same way 🤍
Give new life to the cremains of your precious angel. AWAKE soil can be mixed with cremains and planted in your favourite spot–outside or with a potted plant. Once mixed, their natural nutrients become bioavailable to the ecosystem—so they can give back to the environment, and nourish new life. .pets

Meet Charlie!
He has been a senior patient of ours for almost a year now.
He presented with a hard lump on his leg, and after a fine needle aspirate, we sadly determined that it was a mast cell tumor. A few months earlier, he had surgery for a mast cell tumor in the same area and was doing really well until this lump arose. After a consultation with an oncology surgeon, the tumor was determined to be inoperable.
Dr. Laura then came up with a palliative care plan to help manage his pain and discomfort and hopefully slow the progression of his cancer.
The plan included various pain medications, an antihistamine, and Palladia, a fairly new FDA-approved drug in Canada for canine mast cell tumors graded 2-3. Since starting this medication, his tumors have significantly shrunk and are barely noticeable or palpable on exam. We are continuing to follow up often and are amazed at the reduction! ❤️
Charlie's loving family has always been very committed to his treatment and monitoring any symptoms so that he can continue doing the things he loves, such as playing with stuffed toys (by which we mean ripping them apart!). He also has a couple of blankets he will curl up with or fling around and play with. He adores car rides and walks on the Trans Canada Trail, especially sniffing around. Sniffing things is his absolute favorite (after food)!🐾

Dear Veterinary Professionals and Animal Advocates! 🤍
In the field of veterinary medicine, it is crucial to provide your services to families with grace and compassion, especially when offering end-of-life care. Continuing your education and allowing yourself room to grow is one of the best ways you can help families during this heartbreaking time.
We highly recommend the following resources for veterinary professionals that are looking to improve their skills and communications:
1.American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), founded in 1933, simplifies the journey toward excellence for veterinary practices. Accreditation is the perfect benchmark for your commitment to quality. https://www.aaha.org/about-accreditation/
Our centre having this accreditation demonstrates our dedication to exceptional patient care, unwavering commitment to quality and continuous improvement.❤️
2. The International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care (IAAHPC), promotes physical, emotional, and spiritual support for caregivers, educates professionals, and advances research in the field of animal hospice and palliative care. They also offer certificate programs for veterinary professionals and animal advocates. https://iaahpc.org/veterinary-certification/
Both Dr. Laura and Dr. Maggie are Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Veterinarians through the IAAHPC ❤️
3. Kathleen Cooney with CAETA, who has been practicing advanced end-of-life care since 2006. The CAETA program is Dr. Cooney’s design and is based on The 14 Essential Components of Companion Animal Euthanasia. https://learn.caetainternational.com/
Our RVT Kathryn is also a Certified Peaceful Euthanasia Professional through CAETA 🤍

Hi everyone! My name is Bailey, or better known as Bailey Cakes 🎂 I got to meet the fabulous Heart with Wings team this past Friday because I needed some extra help with my sore mouth lately. I guess they couldn’t help but take my picture because I’m so dang CUTE. Mom said it was ok but as you can see in my second picture, they caught me eyeing up my mom to call off the photoshoot.

✨PARTNER SPOTLIGHT✨ Heart With Wings Veterinary Hospice
🐕 As pet owners, the pain of losing a best friend hits deeply. So we are so proud (and definitely a bit tearful) to introduce the incredible team at . Families receiving their compassionate end-of-life care can now choose our Planting Kits for an eco-friendly memorial—returning their ashes to nature to nourish new life.
🌱 Growing up, Dr. Laura Coulter's family had a white Shepherd-mix named W***y. As a treasured family member for 17 years, it was difficult to watch his health decline until he was in chronic pain. W***y was always anxious at the vet’s, so when they made the painful decision to euthanize him their longtime veterinarian agreed to make a house call. When it was time, he drifted into sleep in his happy place—the back deck, overlooking the fields and neighbouring horse farm. 🌅
️🌈 When Laura became a Vet herself, she wanted to be that trusted person families could call on. So she founded . We are so warmed by these kind humans who help families through the hardest times of life.

My Jersey Girl
#mobilevet #seniorpetvet #iheartchocolatelabs #heartwithwings #fortheloveofdogs
Growing up my family dog was a white German Shepherd mix named W***y. W***y was a treasured member of our family for 17 years. W***y's health declined to the point that he no longer had any quality of life and was in chronic pain so we made the painful decision as a family to euthanize W***y. W***y was very nervous at the veterinary hospital and could no longer walk unassisted. The thought of taking him to the veterinary hospital for euthanasia only added to our stress and felt overwhelming. We called our long time veterinarian and he agreed to make a house call. W***y was euthanized on our family's back deck, where he had found a peaceful place to rest. He was over looking the fields and neighbouring horse farm. He wasn't scared or stressed. He was peaceful as he drifted into sleep.
Many years later I had to euthanize "my heart dog", Jersey after 12 years of being her mom and friend. I knew I wanted our goodbyes to happen at home as we had done with W***y. My husband and I wanted her to drift into sleep on her bed in front of the fireplace and we wanted the privacy to grieve the way that we wanted.
Working 8 years as a general practising veterinarian I see that many are not able to memorialize or grieve their pet the way that they want to . Euthanasias often take place in a busy, hectic hospital scheduled in-between appointments. I started this business to give pet owners/parents the opportunity to offer their pets a stress-free, peaceful passing in their home. To offer a passing that celebrates the wonderful life that they have lived.
I named the business 'Heart with Wings' because I wanted to honour my Jersey who was a big inspiration to me to become a veterinarian and to start this speciality veterinary service. I always referred to her as "my heart" hence the name "Heart With Wings".
Heart With Wings provides in home senior, palliative and hospice care, end of life consultation, in-home euthanasias, and aftercare.
