Thankyou for coming to our open house everyone today. 1 more hour to come and get cake, BBQ, and make a donation to Hubley Rescue Society for face painting, lemonade and cookies.
We did find two unicorns that wanted to check out all the facilities on their own.
They went to see the surgical suite, had an ultrasound, checked out the treatment kennels, looked at some slides under the microscope and then chilled out in the boarding suites.

If you were the one who left your unicorns behind, you can come by and get them during our regular hours. We will keep them safe and healthy! 🦄

February is Dental Health Month, so we're sharing two examples of a very common dental disease seen in cats: feline oral resorptive lesions (FORL). There is no definitive cause for this condition in which a cat's body essentially "eats away" at a tooth, eroding it from the outside in - this is a painful process that can take anywhere from months to years, so surgical extraction of these teeth is often recommended. Cats are masters of hiding pain!

In kitties like staff pet Cedar, FORLs are clearly visible on the crown of the tooth that we can see on physical exam, but that isn't the case for all cats. Our friend Bumpy was in for a dental last week and we took x-rays to investigate some mild gingivitis, and we found that beneath the surface of the gums, his body had done a number on the roots of his tooth! Both of these kitties had their affected teeth removed and are much more comfortable without them.
