Hey everyone! Just a reminder that they have started blocking the 102 highway near our shop down to 1 lane.
We ask that you take this into consideration when leaving for your appointment. If you are more than 15 minutes late, there is a good chance we will have to reschedule the appointment.

Thank you for understanding.

Happy Natal Day!

UPDATE: We will be opening tomorrow ( August 8th) at 9am. Anyone with an appointment tomorrow will be contacted later today to confirm, unless you’ve already reached out. The shop is still under construction however behind the gate where your dogs stay will be completely finished today. Your pets safety is always our biggest priority!
Please note that we do not have AC in our unit for the time being. Hopefully that will be restored soon.

Those who have missed appointments during the time we’ve been closed will be contacted to reschedule as soon as possible.

Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time. ❤️

Hi I just wanted to post another update as I know those missing appointments are eager to get rebooked. As of right now the mall is still without power. We need to replace a lot of the drywall due to mould. My goal is to be reopened by Monday August 7th at the latest. I will repost if it can happen sooner. Once we reopen we will be contacting everyone who missed an appointment and rebook as soon as possible. So sorry for this inconvenience.

07/24/2023

Hi all. I was able to gain access to the shop today and the damage is MUCH worse then expected. Our entire shop is flooded with very muddy water. 😭 This will take atleast a few days to clean up and we still have no power or water or phone. We will contact everyone who is missing their appointments as soon as we are up and running again. Sorry for this inconvenience.

07/23/2023

UPDATE: We will remain closed tomorrow, Monday July 24th, as we are still unable to gain access to the mall. Will update again tomorrow.

07/22/2023

Due to to the situation at the mall, we will have to remain closed today. Will update regarding Monday.

04/06/2023

Please note: We will be closed for this long weekend from Friday-Monday, reopening Tuesday April 11th.

Can we all stop scrolling for a minute to appreciate how gorgeous Miss. Luna is?! 😍

Luna was groomed by Robyn. Most of you would know Robyn from your interactions with her at the front desk. Over the past year she has started grooming, and we are so happy with her progress!

Happy Valentines Day! And also Happy 10 years to us! Can’t believe it’s been 10 years already.

Here at Dapper Dogs we welcome constructive criticism. We want to know when you are not happy with your groom for whatever reason and strive to rectify any issues that may arise. We try our best to be upfront and realistic when it comes to timelines, pricing, haircuts, what happens during the groom processing, etc. We communicate with our clients both clearly and concisely while maintaining thoughtful, through and positive interactions. We WANT to make both you and your dog happy. We are so grateful for the many repeat clients who have been with us over the years. Please know that we appreciate the trust you give us taking care of your dogs.

When we start to form new client relationships we are aware there are sometimes a few hiccups that come along the way. Most times they easily corrected with open communication and we take onus on our side. Recently we have had some hiccups in which we would like to address in a general post in hopes to provide some insight.

When we provide a timeline it is always an estimate. Yes, we understand that the last time Fluffy only took an hour... but today the groomer is running behind and needs extra time. We try our best to advise our clients when we are running behind. Sometimes the person checking you in is another groomer on their own schedule and isn't aware that your groomer is behind. This is just one of the many sometimes that we could get into but won't because we know that life happens and it's not always in our control. What is in our control is that if a groomer is running behind and our clients inform us of any time constraints in their schedule ( apt after grooming apt, picking up kids from school, going to work) another team member will always step up and help get your dog out on time.

At drop off we look to the client to provide us with information regarding how they'd like their dog groomed. We ask questions to figure out what you want. We use specific words in those questions to ensure what we are thinking is correct. We repeat questions and key words when we are unsure of what you want. We then take your dog and the information you've provide and groom the dog. We take pride in our work, want your dog feeling fabulous and lastly want you feeling happy. There are always times especially when starting to take new clients again when information is miscommunicated. Sometimes a client drops off the dog and isn't able to explain what their partner wants done. We do not like when this happens just as much as you don't. We don't mind if you bring pictures and notes to help. We'd like to believe that we can have open and positive discussions about how we can change the cut the next time. At the same time when when a key word such as "shaved" is used by us multiple times in a conversation at drop off; thats what is going to be done. We don't know you or your dog and are not mind readers.

At the end of the day we are human beings just like yourself. We have sick days. We have doctor's appointments. We sometimes have to leave work to get our kids from school because no one else can. We have to take our breaks so our boss doesn't get in trouble by breaking labor laws. We make mistakes. We have miscommunications. We don't deserve to be belittled, berated, have our qualifications come under question or be threatened that our shop is going to be "dragged through the mud on social media". It's disheartening to hear these words because we don't believe that this is helpful when building continued relationships nor is it constructive. Please remember the holiday season is a busy one for us and we ask for your patience and kindness during it.

Thank you,
Nicole

I am super excited to announce that we recently won Silver🥈 for ‘Best Groomer’ in both Halifax Community Votes and the Coast Best of Halifax. Thank you so much to everyone who voted, we are all so grateful for the ongoing support.

This past summer has been a bit of a struggle as we have been short staffed and I have been unable to work for past several months due to health issues. I’m very lucky to have such amazing staff❤️ who’ve been looking after so much while I’ve been gone. I’m looking forward to getting back soon and seeing all of the dogs again, I have missed them all so much. 🤗

I would also like to welcome our new groomer Madison to the team!

Hope you have an amazing week! 🌞

PLEASE BE ADVISED :

The Metro Animal Emergency Clinic is experiencing a high volume of calls and visits pertaining to kennel cough. Kennel cough is spreading rapidly throughout the HRM.

Signs of mild to moderate kennel cough :

- A sudden harsh, hacking cough ( that may produce white phlegm)
- Sneezing
- Discharge from eyes or nose
- Lethargy
- Lack of appetite

Kennel cough usually passes after an uncomfortable week or two. Your veterinarian may prescribe dog safe cough suppressants and/or antibiotics, if required. Kennel cough is transmitted through respiratory droplets, so to curb the spread it is IMPERATIVE that you keep your dog home until several days after the last symptom has resolved.

WHEN TO SEEK EMERGENCY VETERINARY CARE :

- Fever
- Thick greenish discharge from eyes or nose
- Extreme lethargy
- Heavy or increased respiratory effort
- " Wet" breathing

If your dog is experiencing these symptoms seek veterinary care without delay, EVEN IF THEY HAVE ALREADY SEEN A VETERINARIAN FOR KENNEL COUGH. A dog's response to kennel cough can change rapidly.

Most dogs will recover uneventfully, but not all dogs. Kennel cough can result in life threatening illness so it is very important to limit the spread. If you suspect your dog has kennel cough, KEEP THEM HOME. Avoid all public spaces, dog parks and daycare. Yes, we know Fido really loves and needs his afternoon walk but he'll survive without it, and another dog may not. We cannot say it enough...if you suspect your dog has kennel cough, KEEP THEM HOME and call your veterinary team for advice.

Kennel cough outbreaks are not unusual but this one seems particularly unpleasant. Let's all do our part to limit the spread.
