Taz visited us this past weekend for a urinary blockage. He was so sweet and loved all of the chin scratches and belly rubs.

Male cat urinary blockages are common and can become life threatening very quickly. Here are some ways to help reduce the risk 🐈

💧 Increase water intake

- Feed canned food when possible
- Try a water fountain
- Keep multiple fresh water bowls around the house

🍽 Diet matters
Some cats benefit from urinary diets, especially if they’ve had issues before.

🧼 Keep litter boxes clean
Stress and litter box issues can contribute to urinary problems.

😺 Reduce stress at home
Cats love routine. Changes in the home can sometimes trigger urinary flare ups.

👀 Watch for signs like:

- Straining to urinate
- Frequent litter box trips
- Blood in urine
- Crying in the litter box
- Vomiting or lethargy

🚨 If your male cat is trying to p*e and nothing is coming out, this is an emergency and they should be seen right away.

A head to tail examination and diagnostics are extremely important in helping us understand what’s going on with your pet—especially since they can’t tell us how they’re feeling.
