🐩You’ve likely heard about the 5 senior miniature poodles who were found dumped in the Brighton/Quinte West area a little over a week ago. HSHPE has been caring for some of them including this little gem. She was hit by a car but miraculously survived! Doris has fractures in her pelvis and after consulting with several orthopedic surgeons her prognosis looks positive! She’s on strict cage rest and medication as she continues to heal. K9 FIT and Shelley have been the driving force behind fundraising efforts for these lovely pups! The ladies will be heading to Marley's Pet Rescue to start their journey to recovery. These girls we’re used for breeding and discarded when they became too old to fulfil someone’s greed. 😞 Animals are resilient and as you can see Doris is quite a character, she makes us laugh and has such a docile and sweet demeanor, despite her past. 🥹 Thank you to everyone who has helped give the ladies another chance at a beautiful life, where they’ll be loved and treasured for the remainder of their days. #rescueshelpingrescues
🐶🎉Only $4,196 left to raise to get Tilly her new knees!!
Thanks to many kind and generous supporters and friends of Tilly's, we have raised over $5,800 dollar over the last several weeks for our favourite smiling Rottweiler!!!
Tilly is a sweet 3-year-old Rottweiler who loves belly rubs and has a zest for life, despite having torn the cruciate ligaments in both knees.
We’re keeping her calm in one of our foster homes for now but its hard to ask a young dog to stop having fun.
If Tilly continues to walk on these damaged knees, she will develop compensation patterns to stabilize herself and this compensation can further damage the joints and lead to a lifetime of pain and arthritis.
The only solution is surgery to change the biomechanics of the knee joints, followed by physiotherapy.
Here's a recent video of Tilly getting a much deserved belly rub from her foster dad.
If you can spare a few dollars for Tilly, she'll be forever grateful!

Sadie burning off some energy playing fetch with her foster friend Stephen!❤️
Meet Sadie! Sadie is currently in foster care with one of our HSHPE team members Stephen so that she can burn off some pent-up energy. She is an Olympic athlete that would thrive with someone that is active and would enjoy a 4-legged pal to join them in daily walks/runs, hikes etc. If you have any questions about Miss Sadie, please call (613)968-4673, a staff member will be happy to answer your questions and hopefully set up a meet & greet! Thank you Stephen for your dedication in giving our dogs the best chance possible at finding their forever homes! ❤️🐾
Belleville Police Service Team visits shelter
So happy to welcome members of Belleville Police Service Peer Support Team to the shelter today to spend some quality time with animals in our care.
This Happy Tale comes to us from the adopters of lovely Alexis.
Alexis is an 8-year-old Retriever cross who came to HSHPE as a stray and was unclaimed.
It can be hard to find new home for older dogs, but Alexis, now known as Gertie, hit the adoption jackpot two weeks ago and is now romping happily in her new backyard with two new best friends.
Here she is (the medium-coloured one) in a friendly game of chase with dogmate Walter.
Happy tales, Gertrie 🐶
Here's the lastest update on Cornelius the Wonder Cat!
As you can see from the video, Cornelius is recovering well from his most recent surgery - this one to remove some teeth to make it possible to cover the remaining cleft in his palate.
In 6-8 weeks, he'll head back to the GTA with his faithful HSHPE caregiver Kaitlin, for what we hope to be the final palate repair.
And despite his heart murmur, Cornelius has come through surgeries so far with flying colours.
Cornelius extraordinary care is being paid for by monies raised in last summers Saving Cornelius Campaign.
Thanks to all for your continued thoughts and prayers.
😍 Tandem biscuit making! Hopper and Joyce were surrendered into our care with several other kittens in late October. They had fleas, infected eyes, and ear mites. Once they finished treatment for their ailments they were placed for adoption! Hopper and Joyce stole the hearts of a wonderful family and fit in puuuurfectly!

Meet Kevin, a 15-month-old boxer/mix who has had a rough start. He was on the run for about a month before folks were able to get him safely to us at the Humane Society. He has since learned that humans are pretty good folks, providers of treats and affection.
Kevin has some fans who really want to see him find a new home. They have subsidized his adoption fee from our regular rate of $460, so that Kevin is now available to a qualified adopter for $50.
Kevin would love to find his forever home, so that he can just run and play all day long. It would be best if there were no young children there, just because he can be a nervous guy. We do think that he would do well with a dog and cat as friends.
