To celebrate Cat Adoption Month, we've compiled the Top Ten Things HSHPE cats are thankful for:

#5: Each Other
HSHPE's bonded pairs are very thankful for each other. We do everything we can to keep them together because their attachment to one another is so strong.
Sometimes it's a more outgoing cat who navigates the world for a shyer or more nervous friend. Sometimes it's just two cats who love to snuggle and think the world makes a lot more sense when they are together.❤️

HSHPE has bonded pairs available for adoption, like this bonded pair, Billie & Callie! Come by the shelter and meet these two sweet girls!

For more information on Billie & Callie, visit: https://humanesocietyhpe.ca/adoption/

🥳 Friday is here! Whatever your plans this weekend, be sure to enjoy some down time with family, friends and our loyal companions! It’s , and we’re here to share the joy we feel when a homeless animal finds their forever family! We’ve had a lot of adoptions this week and our kennels are still full! If you’re considering welcoming a pet into your life, stop by and meet our crew, we have some incredible animals patiently waiting for their second chance! 🍀

😍 Little Vinnie arrived to us with his litter mates in April. These pups didn’t have a great start in life, but once they were safely placed in our care that all changed. They learned to trust, and to play. ⚽️ Vinnie has found his forever and is ready for a lifetime of adventures! Thank you for choosing adoption!

🩷 The team at Moss Psychology and their clients are incredibly generous people who support the animals of HSHPE in many ways! Most recently, they sponsored the cost of Seven’s tail amputation. This super sweet polydactyl cat was attacked by a dog before coming to us causing extensive injury to his tail. Seven is healing beautifully and will be available for adoption soon. Thank you to everyone who donated to his surgery!

🐶 Big Dan has found his people! A family who is reading Dan’s cues and not rushing into new experiences. They’re taking the time to allow him to adjust to his new life, his new home and his new routine. Dan enjoys time at the lake, whether sitting on the dock or getting his paws wet, he’s going on walks and adventures and he’s living his BEST senior life. Thank you for adopting a senior companion! 🩵

🐰 Guy Diamond came to us just after Christmas with several other rabbits who weren’t well cared for. He was in poor condition and was seen by a partner veterinarian. Guy Diamond had torn ears, he had bite wounds and abscesses on his frail body. In late January he was deemed healthy enough for neuter and booked in for surgery in early February. Once healed from his surgery Guy Diamond was adopted but returned in April. He was very matted, and sick and was taken to the vet. This sweet bunny required sub-q fluids, critical care, and medication. It took more than a month to get Guy Diamond healthy again, but here he is, with his new mom who will cherish and love him always! Thank you for giving Guy Diamond the life he truly deserves! 💛

🥜 Peanut is another pup who was rescued and brought to us for care. She was covered in fleas and was friendly but very timid upon arrival. Within a few weeks she began to trust, and her tail started to wag again. Peanut was adopted and has the rest of her life to be loved and cherished as a dog should be!🐾 Happy tails to you Peanut!

❤️ Hank is a dog who is very dear to our hearts. He was here much longer than we wanted, he deserved a second chance, but we had to wait for the green light. Here is Hank with the first real family he’s ever had. Someone must have been cutting onions when he walked out the door because there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. 🥹

🐱 Pleakley and his littermates were brought into us in May. They had ear mites, fleas and were covered in ticks. Once healthy they were spayed/neutered and Pleakley has left our care to start a beautiful life with a wonderful family! Happy tails!

🥰 Frieren was found stray and picked up by animal control in March. She was cleaned up, vaccinated and spayed in early April. Frieren waited for a few weeks for her forever family to find her, and they have! Thank you for choosing adoption!

🤩 Bill was a fan favorite among staff and volunteers. A goofy boy who loved people, walks, and listening to stories read by our Rescue Readers! We’re happy to see him head home with his new dad! Congratulations!

😘 Thank you everyone who adopted a best friend for life! Thanks to those who saw our requests for towels and dog collars, as usual you came through! Most importantly, thank you for your ongoing support! Whether you share our posts, or tell your friends about HSHPE adoptable animals, support our cause with charity functions and financial donations, whatever you’re doing to help raise awareness for the homeless animals of HSHPE is beyond appreciated!

🍦 Don’t forget to head to What's Your Scoop in Frankford this Sunday, June 23rd for Quinterideforpaws annual Poker Run, in support of domestic and wild animals!

🌞 Cheers to the weekend!

#6: Foster Families
HSHPE's cats are thankful for Foster Families❤️
Many people want to share some love and kindness with an animal. Being a foster caregiver can not only help the animal, but can add to your life as well. Some animals just need TLC and a place that is quieter than the shelter. At HSHPE, we provide care to all animals, but there are times when one-on-one is more beneficial. Fostering is also important because it helps the shelter by creating space and allowing us to serve even more animals in need.

Tyler has become one of Tilly's most dedicated supporters. He's turned his artistic talents to helping raise money to support Tilly's knee surgeries by creating some painted wooden pieces, like this one he did of Tilly.
Tyler sold and raffled off the paintings over the last weeks. Our thanks to all those who supported Tyler and Tilly at the Canadian Combo BBQ and Food Truck event in Madoc on June 2, organized by Tyler's sister Trista.
Tyler was at the shelter this week with his latest contribution of over $200!
Thanks to Tyler and all of Tilly's supporters, we have raised close to $7,500 of the $10,000 needed to replace Tilly's knees. She recently had her first surgery and is recovering well.

To celebrate Cat Adoption Month, we've compiled the Top Ten Things HSHPE cats are thankful for:

#7: Cat Trees and Enrichment Toys

Cat trees and enrichment toys are very beneficial to a cat's overall health, as they offer exercise, mental stimulation, and, of course, fun. Trees and enrichment toys allow them to express their natural behaviours, including scratching, chewing, climbing, and playing!

Thank you to all who provide HSHPE's cats with enrichment toys already. HSHPE's cats are always thankful for more❤️🐱

Meet Sky, a beautiful and comical 8-year-old white Husky who is in real need of a friend.

This blue-eyed darling has lots of energy and is very true to his breed. He is confident, smart, active and goofy.

Sky is eligible for our Seniors for Seniors Program, sponsored by Bay View Home Hardware, which waives the adoption fee for qualified adopters 60+ adopting animals 6+.

Sky has been with us for a while, and have been doing some basic training. He has pretty decent leash manners and loves to sit, shake a paw and get treats for being such a good boy! He is super smart and would enjoy a busy life learning new things. He would benefit from regular exercise and obedience training.

Sky also has a best friend, Luke, who he would love to be adopted with!

Meet Zorro, a one and a half-year-old, white and black English Spot rabbit who loves to play.

Zorro is a vocal and spicy little rabbit with personality to spare. He's currently staying with one of our amazing foster families and his foster mom reports that Zorro loves to hang our in a shady spot in the garden and munch on veggies.

"He’s my little composter!," she reports.

"I clean his pen and then he IMMEDIATELY must rearrange to his exact specifications and grumbles if it’s moved. He loves his stacking cups and paper tubes. He’s more recently started to sleep in his pop up cube in a little bed and has always favoured his tube. He is king of binkies and I will never get tired of seeing it!! He still loves a cuddle and will nudge my hand to keep going if I stop. He's such a good boy and I’m so surprised no one has scooped him up!!"

She reports that Zorro is getting increasingly used to dogs and is still working on his litter training.

If you'd like to arrange a meeting with Zorro and speak with our animal care staff, call us at 613-968-4673.

All rabbit adoption fees include spay/neuter surgery, RHDV1 and RHDV2 vaccine. Adopters will receive a $25 gift certificate from Ren’s Pets and a pet care booklet from Pet Valu with coupons worth up to $300. Plus, adopters who bring the paperwork from their HSHPE adoption to PetSmart Belleville or Kingston will receive a booklet with coupons worth up to $300.

🎀 Sadie is here today, hoping to meet her forever family between 12-4:30pm! Stephen, her foster dad is ready to answer your questions and introduce you to this awesome girl!

🤩 Meet Sadie ! A boxer mix who is full of energy and has a zest for life :)

She is currently in foster care with a shelter employee where we are learning a lot about her. She could play the day away playing fetch, or chasing her favorite toy at the end of a flirt pole. She can also settle nicely in her crate after a good play session for a full work day and will be ready to go on an adventure with you when you get home.

Things that she is still working on: she gets very excited when you come home and will jump up to demonstrate her enthusiasm. Her leash skills are coming along well and she has a good sit. Asking her to hold that sit for anything longer than a second is another matter.

Typical of her breed Sadie is not good with small animals - so no small dogs or cats in a home for her. While at her foster home she has enjoyed playing with larger male dogs, so we think she would be a good fit for a home with another dog. Meet and greet would be required before adoption. Sadie is suitable for a home with children 12+

🐾 If you're an active person and have been looking for your next race partner, please come in today and spend some time with Sadie!

🧡 The best day of the week has finally arrived! is here and we have some great news to share!

😽 Lilo and her three littermates were found as strays and brought into our care. They had fleas and ear mites but were otherwise healthy and after being treated, altered and vaccinated they were placed for adoption. Congrats on your newest addition!

🐕‍🦺 Fostering animals is so rewarding for both the animal and their caregivers! Karla came to us as a stray very early in her pregnancy. Here she is heading to her foster home with an awesome HSHPE volunteer! Thank you for welcoming this little family into your home until the pups are old enough for adoption.
Please visit ➡️ https://humanesocietyhpe.ca/foster-program/ if you’d like to offer your time as a foster parent! We’re amidst our busiest season and we need your help!

🐰Snowflake has bounced into her new home! This sweet little bunny was surrendered with her littermates in January. Once old enough they were spayed/neutered and placed for adoption. Congratulations to Snowflakes’ new family!

🐶 George was surrendered to HSHPE last month. He was well cared for and after his neuter he was placed for adoption. Here he is with his new parents, sporting a big ol' golden smile! Happy tails!

💜 Ginger was found as a stray with her three littermates. They had fleas, and ear mites but were always friendly and accepting of our team’s help! Once treated for their ailments they were all spayed/neutered and hit the adoption floor! Ginger couldn’t focus for her picture; she was far too excited to be heading home with her new mom! Happy tails!

😻 Exclamation Mark has left the building, to start a very exciting life, we’re sure❣️ She was found stray in late May and brought in by a concerned member of the public. This sweet little ginger girl has started the best chapter of her life! Congratulations!

🌈 We had a wonderful day at the Pride festivities last weekend! The HSHPE team are proud allies of our community members, and friends. We had the opportunity to connect with many amazing humans during this magical day as we celebrated safety, inclusion and Pride!

🥗 Salad Fingers has found his forever! He was brought in with another cat in late May and once treated for fleas and ticks, he was neutered, vaccinated and has started an awesome journey with his new dad! This picture is pure joy! Congrats! 🐈‍⬛

😺 Fringe and Micro were born in our care. Their mom didn’t have a great start in life and came to us heavily pregnant. Once she was safe, she delivered 6 healthy kittens! These two sweeties, Micro and Fringe will only ever know love. They’ll grow up cared for and adored by their new pet parents. They’ll start a new life together, best friends forever! 😍 Daisy, their attentive and oh so sweet mama is still awaiting her chance at a loving family.

🎙 Kristi, our Volunteer Program Supervisor, and Andy, Volunteer extraordinaire were invited to chat about the role HSHPE has in our community, volunteering, and the success of our TV Bingo program. Big thank you to Katie and Kay, stellar hosts of Babes of Quinte for being advocates for animals! 🥰 Thanks for all your support of HSHPE and the animals we all love so very much!

#10 KMR - Kitten milk replacer

HSHPE's kittens are very thankful for KMR this spring❤️🐱

Every spring, kitten season begins and we have a higher intake of kittens than usual. HSHPE's kittens are so thankful for your help during this busy time! KMR is a specially formulated kitten formula that mimics all the nutrition that they'd normally get from mom's milk. We use KMR to feed orphaned kittens who need bottle feeding or kittens whose mommas aren't producing enough milk.

We would gladly appreciate donations of KMR. They can be dropped off at the shelter Monday - Saturday 12-4:30pm! KMR is available locally at community supporters like Pet Valu, Ren's Pets, Pet Smart, Little Stinkers, Besties, and Tropical Gardens.

Foster Home Needed
We are in need of a foster home for our Tilly.
She's just had the first of two knee surgeries (thanks !) and needs a quiet place to chill and recoup.
We are looking for a home with no cats or other dogs and one where she could stay for several months, through this recovery and then the recovery from her second knee surgery.
Food and other needed items will be supplied.
This darling girl has been through a lot - and we'd love her to find a soft and caring place to land for the next little while.
Call us to discuss! 613-968-4673. 🫶

Over 50,000 Cats & Dogs Spayed or Neutered To Date

Quinte Humane Society is a non-profit animal shelter serving Hastings & Prince Edward Counties. Each year we assist as many as 2200 animals in need. We provide a safe, caring environment for stray, surrendered, neglected or abused animals. We return hundreds of lost animals to their families, adopt out animals who are in need of a new home and provide medical care and other necessities for animals in distress. We spay/neuter to help with pet overpopulation and educate the public about animal welfare.

The average cost of care for the animals we receive far exceeds the adoption fees we take in from each adoption. This is because not enough people will adopt if we charge the full cost of care and we do not have the capacity to keep the animals indefinitely. It is because of this that we are required to fundraise to keep the shelter open to serve and protect all these wonderful animals.

The Quinte Humane Society has a number of fundraising initiatives throughout the year to help support these costs but the animals would greatly benefit from a predictable monthly income. In order to address this we have started a monthly giving program. Please consider making a small monthly donation through this program as it will have a huge impact on the lives of the animals in our care. If you would like to make a difference throughout the year please consider this generous option.
