A short montage. In 30 years, I only made 39 saddles, not a lot in the whole scheme of things. So as a result I never felt I got very efficient at it... or perhaps I spent too much time fussing🤔 At any rate, I was never able to make a lot of profit on a saddle.
This isn't an easy industry to make a living in and it's particularly hard, if not impossible to source out suppliers within Canada who will wholesale. With the cost of materials and freight these days, I honestly don't know how anyone does it.
I did enjoy building them but since there was bills to be paid I focused on smaller items, particularly chaps and chinks.
So if I had to impart any sage advice, it would be to pick one or two things that interest you and FOCUS on them. Become the best there is at whatever you choose and most importantly charge for that expertise!
