What snow training is like. Interestingly the dogs prefer NOT swimming as the ponds are frozen and their main goal is to get the bird back as quickly as possible. Swimming is slower going so in water takes longer for the dog to follow the handler’s directions or get across the pond than on hard ground! Swimming water will be back soon enough!
This is how we train Gun Dogs in Canada, in the winter. The dogs LOVE running in the snow for frozen ducks! You can see the tracked machines (containing 8 dogs between the two of them) driving by the "ponds" in which the dogs have just run. You can see in the snow the tracks they made across the "water" that they will later swim in, once the ice is gone in the summer. This is one of Trailrunner's technical training ponds which we utilize year-round.
Try and guess how many pups and what colours they will be… Trailrunners Pepper is big and round - and so in a week or two we will see them. Last litter she had all three colours of the Labrador Retriever in her litter… Black Yellow, & Chocolate... and likely will again.
