Long ears should be cleaned 2-3 week to ensure there is no wax build up that could cause an ear infection.
If the ear is smelly, has lots of wax or if your dog is staying scratching or shaking her head a lot it could be an infection. Consult your vet if this happens.

The CHICKS have arrived!!
We add garlic, apple cider vinegar and oil of oregano to the first water and this boosts their immune system.
We make a mash with the all organic feed we get from @takotacoen at Coen farms.
All the chicks get placed into their individual pens and then we watch them grow.
The mixed Heritage breed layer package chicks will grow and start laying in 6-7 months.
The Western Rustic chicks will grow for 10-12 weeks and then be butchered and weigh about 5-6ib to put in the freezer.
The Orlopp Bronze Turkeys will grow to 20-25ib just in time to go on the table by Thanksgiving.
Once they leave the brooder area the will be kept free range and happy birds.

GOOD DOG CHRONICLE Jessie is 5 months old
Leave it is an important command especially at this age where she is exploring the world with her mouth. If I drop something that she shouldn't have I tell her Leave it and when she does I ask for a sit and give her lots of praise.
When Jessie steals something like a sock and runs around me with it I don't make a big deal or try to take it away from her.
I get one of her toys instead and start playing with it. Then when she comes over to check it out I give it to her and while she's playing with the toy I retrieve the sock.

Gertie and her kids are looking for a new family to entertain and give her milk 🥛 to.
Gertie is an excellent milker and super easy to handle. From here on she will milk out 600-700ml per day for the next 8-9 months. This milk does not have the distinct goat taste at all it tastes like cows milk! Yummy!
You can have your own milk and make butter, cheese and ice cream.
The kids are a buckling and a doeling that where born on April 11th. They are very friendly, cuddly and so entertaining to watch as the bounce around. They will make excellent pets!

Here are some important tips if you're bringing home a new puppy when you already have a dog.
🐶 let them meet when their energy is low after both have been for a walk or done some brainwork
🐶 always supervise for the first few weeks when they are together
🐶 let your 1st dog teach the puppy good manners
🐶 set up a playpen where your puppy is safe and the two dogs can meet with a barrier between them
🐶 walk the dogs together as a pack

Q&A: Should I set my alarm at night to take my puppy outside to go potty?
The answer is : No
Here is why....
GOOD DOG CHRONICLE...
this is how I feed lunch.
After lunch we go for 10-15min walk and make sure Jessie goes potty while we are out there.
Once we get back she's pretty tired from the brainwork of lunch and the walk and it's the perfect time to have a nap in her crate and I can go about doing some stuff for about 2h.
She is now 10 weeks old and as a rule of thumb they can hold their bladder for 1hr for each month of age.

Today we will practice brushing Jessie's teeth!
🦷 dogs get plaque build up just like humans do and when the teeth get coated in plaque and tartar the gums get inflamed.
🦷 brushing your dogs teeth is a big part of keeping your dog healthy and can prevent health issues down the road
🦷 if you don't brush their teeth you'll have to get the vet to scrape the plaque off and to do a great job that has to happen under anesthesia

GOOD DOG CHRONICLE after 1 week with Jessie😍
We had a great week!
Jessie started sleeping through the night, she learned not to jump up, bite inhibition is better, potty training routine is successful.
🐶 We did some socializing and went to our friend Denice's house where Jessie got cuddles from Denice and Hailey and she also got to explore their house and meet their dog pack. She did very good on her first outing!💞
🐶 The last few nights she slept from 10pm to 6am without having to get up.
What a treat!! Such a good girl!
🐶 Potty training is going well and she had only 2 accidents inside that was totally my fault for not paying attention!
🐶 She's getting really good about not jumping up when I approach her and sits without being asked.
THIS WEEKS TASKS
🐾 I will start using the SIT command when she sits and give praise
🐾 We will be going to town and visiting local stores to get her use to the sights and sounds from the safety of my arms or the shopping cart.
🐾 I will continue with last weeks routine and handfeeding.

GOOD DOG CHRONICLE
Over the last few days we have had a lot of fun!
🐶 Jessie is getting to meet our other dogs including Kimi, Bernie her grandma Chip and our LGD Chex. She has been very respectful and not fearful.
🐶 Our daytime routine consists of regular potty breaks and starting to ring the bell everytime we go outside. She has 3 sessions in her crate (30-40min) and gets to play in the snow and in her playpen with her sister Henny.
🐶 In the evening I take away her food and water around 7pm and then it's playtime and we work on bite inhibition, exploring the house and making sure she goes potty before bedtime.
🐶 As you can see she still fusses in her crate for a short time (2-3min) before she settled in for the night.
🐶 Last night she started barking at 3am and had to go potty and went back to sleep. She barked again at 4am and 5am but I waited for a few minutes since I knew she didn't have to go potty again and she went back to sleep. A few minutes seem like a very long time in the middle of the night since the barking echoes and I know she's waking up the whole house. But I know it will get better and being consistent and patient will pay off!

GOOD DOG CHRONICLE After 3 days....
🐾 Jessie is hanging out in the office with me and during the day and we practice crate training, different surfaces inside and outside.
🐾 Everytime she does something I like I mark it with the word YES. Anytime she comes to me I wait until she sits and mark it with YES. This will teach her not to jump up and sit and wait to be petted. Now I can start using the word sit and then praise.
🐾 She still likes to complain a little when she first goes in the crate but settles within minutes. Being consistent with putting her in the crate and not letting her out until she's calm is key to making the crate a good place to be in.
🌙 The first 2 nights we had to get up twice for potty breaks. Be very quiet, calm and didn't ’t turn on any lights. Once she went potty, gave quiet praise and then put her back in her crate.
Last night she slept from 10pm - 6am
🐾 Taking away food and water 2h before bedtime, giving several potty breaks and then keeping her awake and playing with her did the trick!
🌞 During the day I spend time handling and petting her body all over. Touch ears, face, paws, nail, tail, belly etc. I put my fingers in her mouth and let her know when her teeth hurt with an OUCH and also give her praise when she's gentle.
