🦷 Home Pet Dental Care Made Easy!

1. Choose Pet-Friendly Toothpaste:
Opt for toothpaste specially formulated for pets in flavors they love, like chicken or beef.

2. Get a Pet Toothbrush or Finger Brush:
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush designed for pets or a finger brush for gentle cleaning.

3. Introduce Gradually:
Familiarize your pet with the toothbrush and toothpaste by letting them sniff and taste it before brushing.

4. Start Slowly:
Begin by gently rubbing their teeth and gums with your finger to acclimate them to the sensation.

5. Use Positive Reinforcement:
Reward your pet with praise or treats after each successful brushing session to create a positive association.

6. Brushing Technique
Lift their lips and brush in small, circular motions, focusing on the outer surfaces of the teeth.

7. Be Patient:
Take your time and remain calm. Gradually increase the duration of brushing as your pet becomes more comfortable

8. Consistency is Key:
Aim for regular brushing, ideally 2-3 times a week, to maintain good oral hygiene.

9. Regular Vet Check-ups:
Schedule regular veterinary check-ups to monitor your pet's dental health and address any concerns.

10. Consult Your Veterinarian:
Seek guidance from your vet on specific dental care needs and any challenges you encounter.

❄🌨WINTER PREVENTION TIPS 🌨❄

With the recent colder weather here are some tips for keeping your pet safe:

🐾Protect paws: Use a paw protectant or booties to protect your pet's paws from salt, antifreeze, and other chemicals.
🐾Clean up antifreeze: Antifreeze is toxic to pets, so wipe up spills and store it out of reach.
🐾Keep pets inside: Keep pets inside when it's cold, especially if it's below freezing.
🐾Be emergency ready: Have an emergency kit with food, water, and warm blankets.
🐾Keep pets leashed: Keep dogs leashed so they don't get lost in the snow.
🐾Clean your pet: Clean your pet after they've been outside in the snow to remove salt, antifreeze, and other chemicals.
🐾Limit time outdoors: Limit how long your pet spends outside, especially during cold weather.
🐾Watch for hypothermia: Look for signs of hypothermia, such as shivering, weakness, or seeking warm places.
🐾Use space heaters with caution: Space heaters can burn your pet or start a fire.
🐾Check your engine: A warm vehicle engine can be a deadly heat source for cats.
🐾Take care of their coat and skin: Keep your home humidified and towel dry your pet after they come inside.
🐾Prepare for blizzards and power outages: Include your pet in your plans.

📣🐾New Year's Eve Pet Safety Tips 🐾📣

As we prepare to ring in the New Year, let's make sure our furry family members stay safe and stress-free! Follow these tips for help your pets have a calm and happy start to 2024:

1. Fireworks Can be Frightening
The loud noises and bright flashes from fireworks can be overwhelming. Keep pets indoors in a safe, quiet space with their favorite toys or blankets to help them feel secure.

2. Update ID Tags and Microchips
In case your pet gets spooked and escapes, ensure their ID tags and microchip information are current to increase the changes of being reunited.

3. Skip the Party Snacks
Alcohol, chocolate, and other party foods are not pre-friendly. Provi3de pet-safe treats instead and keep human food out of reach.

4. Secure Your Home
With guests coming and going, doors may be left open. Consider setting up a gate or keeping pets in a separate room to prevent accidental escapes.

5. Watch for Confetti and Decorations
Streamers, confetti, and other decorations can pose a choking hazard if ingested. Clean up promptly after the celebrations.

If you have any concerns about your pet during the holiday, don't hesitate to contact Aspen Springs Animal Hospital at 905-623-0020
