The Brandon Humane Society is deeply grateful for the kindness of Boston Pizza (Brandon) and the benefits will make a real difference in the lives of our wonderful kids at the shelter 🩷. Thank you to everyone in the community who supports our shelter and contributes to the heart campaign at Boston Pizza! The heart campaign runs until February 17, 2025, so there is still time to purchase a heart or donate online at Boston Pizza (both Brandon locations).

Did you know one unspayed female cat can produce up to 180 kittens in her lifetime!

Barn cats may seem independent, but spaying/neutering helps them live longer, healthier lives while keeping the stray population under control.

This March we're 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟓𝟎% 𝐎𝐅𝐅 spaying and neutering barn cats. Don't miss this chance to protect your farm friends.

This is Mimic 🤍⁣
Friends, we’re so sad that Mimic is still here and that he’s had barely any visitors 💔⁣

Despite looking older than he is, Mimic is really just a baby - he’ll be turning 2 in a few days! He’s just a young cat who likes to play, is curious, and wants to be loved and give love in return. ⁣

Mimic has come so far since coming to us last year. He’s a very chill guy and loves pets. We’re also pretty sure he was a dog in his former life because he’s always so interested in seeing the dogs!⁣

Like a lot of cats, Mimic keeps to himself so won’t necessarily come right up to you. But, if you spend some time with him and give him a chance, we just know you will love him. If you think your home could be a great fit for this rare white cat, contact us to come meet Mimic! 😻⁣

‼️‼️‼️

Just a reminder as it’s absolutely freezing out there right now!

I hope this message finds the people who need to see it.

Several families in the Virden area are missing their lost cats.

These excellent tips are courtesy of BALA Brandon and Area Lost Animals:

PUT OUT FOOD, WATER & SHELTER

Roaming cats are most active at night when everything is quiet and we're usually sleeping. They need food, water & shelter to keep them home. Never stop putting food & water out until your cat is found. (Do NOT put out the litter box).

If possible, leave a door or window open for your cat to reenter the house during the night. Make sure other household pets are kept secure.

CHECK HIDING SPOTS WITH A FLASHLIGHT

If the cat has limited or no experience outdoors, they could be hiding close by. They panic & bolt to the first hiding spot they can find, typically within a 3 house radius. Check all possible hiding spots with a flashlight, watching for shining eyes reflecting in light. For spots you cannot see into, use your cell phone to take video with flash on. Cats can squeeze through very small openings. Check all sheds, garages, porches and even openings to basements. If a cat gets locked in, they likely won't have access to food or water.

CONTACT YOUR AREA ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER & AREA POUND

For Brandon, file a lost cat report for Animal Control through Brandon Police Service 204-729-2345 AND call the Brandon Pound 204-728-3260 (leave a message). Go to the pound in person every 72 hours. Verbal descriptions are not reliable.

VERIFY TATTOO INFORMATION

If your cat has an ear tattoo, contact the vet clinic where it was done to verify they have your correct contact # in their system & flag your cat as missing.

PLACE A LARGE SIGN & DISTRIBUTE FLYERS

Put a lost cat sign on your lawn. Even a cardboard box will do. Contact every neighbor in a minimum 6 house radius. Give them flyers if possible.

This is Fresca 🫧🩷⁣
Today, it’s Fresca’s 2nd birthday! ⁣
We’re pretty surprised this little one is still here because she’s such a beauty - look at those eyes!! 😻However, she enjoys keeping to herself and curling up in a tight little ball, so often she goes unnoticed in the cat room. ⁣

Fresca tolerates the other cats if they don’t get in her face; she’s definitely a little on edge around them sometimes. But, if you strike up a conversation with her, she will happily chirp back to you for as long as you keep your attention on her! (It’s ridiculously adorable, really) ⁣

She definitely enjoys a good cuddle and likes to be held; she’s a fan of humans and would make a lovely little companion. ⁣

If you think your home could be a great fit for this 2-year old little bubble, contact us to come meet Fresca! Happy Birthday, little girl! 🎉🩷⁣

Brandon Humane Society: Who We Are

The Brandon Humane Society has been in operation since 1946 when it was founded by Eleanor Kidd. She originally housed the Shelter in her garage on 13th Street, then in an abandoned stable near Empress Bay, and later in an old barn near the riverbank where Eleanor Kidd Gardens are now located.

In 1997, the Shelter moved to its new premise at 2200 17th Street East. These days, our residents - both cats and dogs - live in a building with heat and air conditioning , two large exercise yards, an enclosed cat patio, and kennels for approximately 30 cats and 30 dogs at any one time. When our kennels are full our dedicated volunteers foster animals in their homes.

Since we are a NO KILL Shelter, the atmosphere is very positive...our animals are loved and well cared for as they wait to be adopted. We invite you to come and visit to see for yourselves.
