We are incredibly grateful for the amazing volunteers who helped build a brand-new play structure for the dogs and puppies at the Humane Society! 🐾❤️ This wouldn't have been possible without the generous support and contributions from Brandon Area Community Foundation, the Neelin High School Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) program, and other wonderful donors. Thanks to your kindness, our furry friends have a fantastic new space to play, learn, and enjoy themselves. We truly appreciate everyone who made this project a reality. The dogs are loving it, and so are we! 🐶🎉

Yesterday, we shared an uplifting story about an incredible woman who rescued three dogs from a cull, reminding us that there is still good in humanity. However, our faith was shaken once more after an overwhelming day.
On Friday, August 30th, 2024, we eagerly awaited the arrival of three adorable 8-week-old puppies from The Pas. Although we are currently at capacity, the community stepped up, helping us find fosters for these sweet pups. They arrived healthy and full of life—just as it should be but isn’t always the case.
But as we celebrated their good health, our shelter manager received a distressing message from a Manitoba First Nations Police officer, urgently requesting help for a puppy in critical condition. “This is likely one of the worst I’ve ever seen,” he stated, sharing a heartbreaking image that left our staff and volunteers in shock.
“This is the worst condition I have seen a puppy in during my 27 years as shelter manager,” said Tracy Munn, our shelter manager. “It makes me weak in the knees just looking at her.” We quickly transported the puppy to Dr. Frank Nichols at The Paw Veterinary Services. We are immensely grateful for his unwavering support and compassion for animals in need. Upon seeing her, he expressed disbelief, stating, “It’s truly amazing that she can survive like this.”
Despite being severely malnourished and suffering from an eye injury likely caused by a blunt object, this brave puppy—now named “Liberty”—was eager to eat, showing us that she still has the will to fight. She will be placed on a strict re-feeding schedule to ensure her recovery is safe and gradual, monitored closely to protect her delicate organs.
This tragedy should never happen. Liberty didn’t choose to be born into neglect and abuse. We urge everyone to “say something if you see something.” This kind of negligence is preventable, and responsible pet ownership is crucial to ensuri
Smudge, our handsome gentleman in his tux, just received some well-deserved media attention! (Thanks, @ctvwinnipeg for highlighting our boy, our manager Tracy, and our shelter ❤️)
Here are some facts about Smudge:
🖤He is just over 4 years old
🖤He has been at the shelter for almost 3.5 years
🖤His two sisters, Presley and Pringle have already been adopted
🖤He’s fine with other cats, but definitely enjoys the catio, where he can curl up in a cat tree on his own (he is definitely a bit of an introvert)
🖤 He’s a GREAT hunter and mouser (the perfect friend to have around during the colder months ahead)
🖤 He has the cutest little pink nose and the long, lanky look of a Siamese, which, combined with his tuxedo, makes him our stealth, James Bond
While Smudge has bonded with staff and regular volunteers, he would thrive with a family of his own. He is definitely overdue for his furever home 🥹 If you can understand that he may take a bit of time to come out of his shell, but will be your loyal companion forever, please contact us to come see Smudge!

Please Help Brandon Humane Society
Hey everyone 😊 We are reaching out to the community once again for some help adding to our food trailer. As you can see in the video (which I admit isn't the best) we are in DESPERATE need to fill a DESPERATE need in the community. We are always in awe of the generosity that the people of Brandon and those in surrounding areas show the shelter and to those that benefit from our services. I know that the support we are given for programs such as the Community Feeding Program and others, comes from the heart. Thank you again for any help that comes our way, even if you think it is small we know it is HUGE 😍
