Hello everybody! As some of you may be aware, there is a canine respiratory illness going around, similar to kennel cough, but potentially more serious.

Please read the attached article for more information and if your dog is exhibiting any symptoms please keep them home and contact your veterinarian.

An emerging respiratory illness is a mystery to experts in veterinary medicine, raising concerns among dog owners.

The illness is being closely monitored, but definitive information is not available at this time. It’s important to note that there's no confirmed widespread outbreak at this point.

Experts advise dog owners to consult their veterinary care team if they suspect their pet is unwell. They recommend ensuring their dogs are fully vaccinated and limiting their contact with other animals until the illness is identified and contained. The signs pet owners should watch for are:
· Coughing
· Sneezing
· Nasal or eye discharge
· Lethargy
· Trouble breathing, especially from the stomach
· Blue or purple gums

Today, August 10th is National Spoil Your Dog Day. With their lovable eyes, warm snuggles and wagging tails, it’s not hard to adore and appreciate your dog. The true essence of unconditional love comes from a dog (though some may argue that treats are equal to conditions!).

Whether it is an extra long cuddle or belly rub, a special snack or a new toy, take some time to show your dog how much they mean to you. And don’t forget to let us know how you plan to spoil your pup today!

Disclaimer: Some of our fosters did not approve this message as they argue that wagging tails were unfairly mentioned as reason to love and appreciate a dog. They claim that tails are overrated! 😉😂

Did you know that Happy's Place is almost 4 years old? Together, with each of you, we've been re-writing the stories of old dogs.

Together we have saved the lives of over 800 senior dogs who were all once deemed unadoptable & at risk of euthanasia.
(exact numbers to come in our birthday post July 23).

Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined the amazing connections we've made, nor the incredible community that each of you are a part of too.

The flip side of this- never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined the medical care that would be needed time & time again to save these lives (& the cost that has come with it all).

And then there's this week...

This week, we've got 16 medical visits/surgeries lined up- all in the next 3 days!

This will be our most expensive week we've had to date & we need your help to do it.

Zoey- dental (funds covered)
Pips- dental/spay
Mama- dental/spay (cherry eye repair)
Penny- dental
Lucy- dental
Colin- recheck (funds covered)
Gracie- recheck (funds covered)
Mia- recheck post dental & booster
Toby- acth stimulation 8 hour test
Tessa- full intake appointment (funds covered)

Plus 4 additional dogs coming into care whom you haven't met yet & will also be receiving full intake appointments too.

We've got 6 other dogs coming into care this week that we've committed to, & with that, for now, we are closed to new intakes for a while. We need be sure we can provide for the dogs in our care responsibly.

Once these medical bills are paid- we will open again.

Cheers to Lakeview Animal hospital in Mississauga & the Strathroy Animal Clinic in Strathroy who will see all of these incredible dogs & get them adoption ready. 16 dogs in 3 days- here we go!
