Reminder - Final Day to help Expand the Greenbelt

Your letters and photos needed! Today, Saturday, April 23rd is the deadline to ask the Ontario government to expand the Ontario Greenbelt to include the proposed Bluebelt which would include the Paris-Galt Moraine, and the Grand River watershed in Brant, Waterloo and Wellington County.

We are looking for a creative, flexible, hard working individual to assist with:

Farm and eco-tourism related work

-farm duties such as tending the garden, landscaping, general labour, and prepping and maintaining units and campsites for guests

Sustainability and conservation related practices

-sorting unsold food for distribution in the migrant farm workers community,
planning and restoring a wetland,
tree care,
removing invasive species

Community outreach with migrant farm workers
-including but not limited to, food drops, arranging private shopping trips at the local thrift store, creating and delivering care packages, providing recreational opportunities (e.g. fishing trips, providing bicycles), and teaching English to Mexican farm workers.

Assets:

Previous experience working with farm machinery.
Carpentry and/or drywall experience
Fluency in Spanish and/or Patois

Organic Farm Staff Position: Organic Farming Staff

We have been farming organically at our farm which is right on the rail trail between Hamilton and Brantford for 17 years. We now focus on medicinal herbs, wildcrafting, farmstay and creating a more naturalized space for ecotourism.

Job Description:

We are looking for a creative, flexible, hard working individual to assist with organic farming (mainly medicinal herbs & wildcrafting), work related to operating a farmstay, and conservation related work on the farm. This is physically demanding position.

Duties: include helping with the following activities

organic farming (preparing seed beds, planting, using farming equipment (electric tractor, walk behind tractor, hand tools), cultivating, weeding, harvesting, drying and storage).
preparing value added herb & food products (salves, dried herbs)
sorting fresh unsold food for distribution in the community
small construction and farmstay related activities including landscaping and yard maintenance,
conservation related work (tree care, dealing with invasive species, planting pollinator species)
COVID19 precautions:

We are very conscientious about safety during covid. PPEs will be provided for use if working in closed spaces or within 2 meters of each other. Periodic COVID19 tests may be required.

Term:

8 week position starting as soon as possible. There may be an opportunity to extend the position.
Must be between 18 and 30 years old. Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
Pay: $15.00/hr for 35 hours per week.
Housing: is available at $600/month. This is also accessible housing.
