Today was a day of celebration for Dr. Lima and her lovely patient Duffy!

This gorgeous boy had a major surgery on Monday to remove a cancerous tumour on his leg, which meant removing the full limb in order to prevent spreading and worsening. Dr. Lima and her surgical team performed the surgery on Monday and saw Duffy for his recheck today. Needless to say Duffy is a superstar and is recovering very well! He has adjusted to his new way of walking and has quickly figured out the best way to roll over for belly rubs 🥰

These are two very happy faces in this photo and those smiles speak volumes as to the wonderful bond between veterinarians and their patients ❤️

Affectionately known as Dr. Elsa (because her last name is self admittedly a mouth full), this veterinarian brings both a gentle soft touch to her patients and a wicked sense of humor. It may come as a surprise but Dr. Elsa is originally a native resident of beautiful South Africa and moved to Ontario with her family as a teenager. Although she misses the wildlife across the African landscape, she knows there are plenty kitties who feel as wild and mighty as an African wild cat, living within the pet families of our community!

With a keen eye for detail, Dr. Elsa leaves no stone unturned when it comes to helping her patients. As a graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College she prides herself on providing outstanding medicine with a compassionate and empathetic approach. So, if your furball needs a bit of TLC, there's no one better than Dr. Elsa – where purrs meet perfection!

When she isn’t at work helping her four legged friends she can be found enjoying hiking trails with her spouse, snuggling her cats and reaching new heights on the rock climbing courses. No wonder she’s such a “rock-star”!

Although Dr. Ratteray is the newest addition to the team, she brings with her years of extraordinary experiences from across the globe! Originally a native of Bermuda and escaping the Bermuda triangle, Dr. Ratteray pursued her undergraduate degree at UC Davis in California and from there hoped across the pond to receive her veterinary degree from the Royal Veterinary College in London England. During her studies across the globe she has had the experience of working with all types of creatures from sea turtles off the coast of Bermuda, to working in shelter medicine in streets of Los Angeles, to experiencing life as a rural vet in Ireland helping farmers during the lambing season. Though she is the newest of our doctors, she already has enough veterinary tales to give James Harriet a run for his money!

Making Brantford her current home, she is adjusting to these Canadian winters by bringing her warm personality and friendly nature to everyone she meets. She is currently in her final stages of obtaining all the steps required for obtaining her Ontario licensing. She has a soft spot for Boxers and Rottweilers but is excited to see all the different breeds in North America. We are thrilled to have her join Beattie Animal Hospital and she can’t wait to get to meet all of our lovely pets and pet families.

Dr. Clarke may not be here every day, but when she is, it's a treat for everyone! Her calm demeanor, paired with her witty banter, makes her a cherished presence in the clinic. It's not just about treating animals; it's about creating an environment where both clients and staff feel like they're part of an extended family.

Dr. Clarke brings many years of experience as a small animal veterinarian to help the patients she sees at our clinic. She not only has a love of animals but also a love of travel and can be found jet setting across the globe to a multitude of exotic places. Prior to joining us at Beatties, she was living in Dubai with her family and enjoying immersing herself in the culture and lifestyle of her adventures.

Now that she is firmly back on Canadian soil, we look forward to the days when she joins our team and brings her many talents to share with us.

As one of the few men in a predominantly female clinic, Dr. Sabhaya stands tall with humility, compassion and a heck of a lot of patience working amongst so many women. He has been a solid member of the Beattie clinic since 2016 and although at one time he travelled between several of our sister clinics, he has made his permanent clinic with Brantford for several years. Dr. Sabhaya’s love for feline medicine is as deep as a cat's purr and as boundless as a cat's curiosity. He understands their intricate nature, offering them solace and care with a gentle touch that only he can provide.

When not at work, Dr. Sabhaya can be found enjoying time with his wife, two daughters and son. He shares strong community ties with the North American Gujarati Veterinary Association, often times mentoring other new veterinarians in their journey through their career. As a benefit to the staff, Dr. Sabhaya enjoys sharing various Indian treats among the staff broadening our depth of education into the beautiful world of Indian cuisine.

He is the ever calm presence in the whirlwind of the day and has a smile at the ready for everyone he meets.

Dr. Lima has been a consistent familiar face at Beattie Animal Hospital since her graduation from OVC in 2014. Armed with a stethoscope in one hand and delicious pet treats in the other, she can often be found making friends with even the most nervous pets when they come in for their visits. She has a strong passion for all surgical cases and can perform a variety of orthopedic, soft tissue and non-routine surgeries – if you can get her off the floor rolling around with her puppy patients. When in the surgical suite, Dr. Lima’s team can be treated to her singing a variety of random songs from the early 90’s to the late 2000’s, most of them terrible boyband songs and one hit wonders. She refuses to bring a proper radio into the room.

When not in her white coat, Dr. Lima dons riding boots and can be found in her happy place, at the stables spending time riding her gorgeous grey horse named Moola (named because of the running joke in her family that horses are where all the money goes). Her love for animals isn’t confined to the clinic as she and her spouse can be found embarking on hiking adventures with their two dogs, Mojo and Merlot. Mojo is a real life teddy bear Wheaton Terrier and Merlot (also affection known as Mama’s Angel) is a silly yet incredibly smart Australian Shepherd that that lights up Dr. Lima’s world.

Dr Lima's vibrant sense of humor is the glue that binds her patients, colleagues, and friends and keeps everyone smiling even through the fast paced difficult days that can be veterinary medicine.

We need more then a day to celebrate our Amazing Veterinarians. Over the next week, starting April 28th. We will be featuring each of them💜🐾

Let’s face it — our veterinarians and their dedicated team members routinely give their all to take care of our pets (and us). But inevitably, there’s a time when they go above and beyond to help us through a particularly scary or difficult situation with our pets. We rely on them for their medical knowledge, experience, and gut instinct. If that’s not enough, we also need their emotional support, not only for ourselves and our human family, but also for our dogs and cats. They’re the ones we count on to give our furry family members love and comfort whether it’s during a simple checkup or during extended stays at the hospital. We rest a bit easier knowing our pets are in their care.
