⭐️ Training Tip Tuesday ⭐️
⭐️ Today we are showing you some of our beautiful dogs practicing walking past one another while staying focused on their humans.
⭐️ This behaviour is harder than it looks! We use generous reward on approach to keep our dogs focussed on us, and to communicate that proximity to others is a good thing.
⭐️Dogs require practice to become goodat this skill.
⭐️ If you have any questions, please feel welcome to reach out to the office.

⭐️Training Tip Tuesday ⭐️
⭐️ Today we’re showing you a practical use of your place cue. In this case we wanted our dogs to be with us and ‘help’ on this project.
⭐️ However, at times we needed the dogs out from under foot so we knew that they were safe when the power tools were in use.
⭐️ Having the dogs have the skill set to be able to be sent to their cots and hold position until released was invaluable. It allowed them to be part of our day (which we loved), but also be tucked out of the way when necessary.

⭐️ Training Tip Tuesday ⭐️
⭐️ Today we are teaching these two little sweethearts to relax and share space with each other.
⭐️ We are using the cots to create a place to settle and hang out.
⭐️ We are generous in rewarding to create value for settling in on their cots. Terrific job darlings🥰

⭐️Training Tip Tuesday ⭐️
⭐️ Free shaping is a process where we allow the dog to make decisions and reward when they come close to the behaviour that we are seeking.
⭐️ We use our rewards like a game of “Hot & Cold. Reward start flowing when you come close to the target behavior.
⭐️ Using this method encourages dogs to become problem solvers, and this of course is great for brain development.

⭐️ January is National Train Your Dog Month ⭐️
⭐️ On Day 31 we are exploring hand touches as a simple exercise to build engagement.
⭐️ Since it’s such a simple exercise with high reward value, it can also be used as a redirection tool.

⭐️ On Day 30 we are talking about the sheer joy of an off leash run.
⭐️ If you are still working on perfecting your recall, your dog should be dragging a long line for safety
⭐️Please only run your dog off leash in safe (and legal) spaces

⭐️ On Day 28 we are talking about thresholds. We train our dogs to wait at all thresholds until released.
⭐️ This includes crate doors, car doors & and house doors. This is simply trained as a safety precaution.
⭐️ We want to teach the dogs to focus on us and wait for a release cue whether the leash is on or not.
⭐️ We have the expectation that the dogs will manage this behaviour on their own after they are trained. This means we do not need to tell the dog to ‘wait’ or ‘stay.’ Trained dogs have an understanding that they need to be attentive and wait for the release cue before going through the threshold.

⭐️ On day 26 we are practising gentle physical restraints and examinations.
⭐️ We are generous with our rewards.
⭐️ With young dogs or dogs new to these exercises, a frozen lick mat stuck to the wall could be advantageous in keeping the dog busy while you’re doing your examination.
⭐️ Start slowly with the objective of building confidence.
