This past long weekend was a BUSY one!
Not only do we want to thank the clients that were very patient with wait times, but also wanted to share a story of a sweet boy named, Bear 🐶 🐻
•Bear was camping with his family on the long weekend when his parents feared something was very wrong with their boy. They quickly made the decision to seek veterinary care no matter the distance (3-4 hours!!!). Poor Bear had GDV (gastric dilution-volvulus, aka, “bloat”) 🤕.
Immediately the team went into surgery to correct this life threatening condition.
We are happy to report that Bear was sent home with his family once he recovered and is doing well!
Hooray Bear! 😘

With higher temperatures, come favourable conditions for blue green algae 🏊♀️ 🚫🦠🚱
•Please pay attention to your town/city’s social media page for bulletins regarding rivers or bodies of water that have been contaminated with blue green algae! Avoid these areas as the algae is toxic to pets!
Well it’s raining cats and dogs out there this morning! ☔️ 🐱 🐶
•Some tips to keep your household pets safe from the ongoing rain from remnants of hurricane 🌀Beryl:
🚫 Do NOT take your dog swimming in any rivers/streams. High levels of bacteria can be present after heavy rainfalls and fast moving currents that could sweep your pet away. 🤿 🦠
🚫 Do NOT keep your pets outside for extended periods of time. When coming inside, make sure to thoroughly dry your pet off (don’t forget ears and in between toes!). Wet skin/fur can cause “hot spots” and ear infections to form if not dried properly. 💦
🚫 Avoid forests. The ground can become soft enough for trees to fall and cause serious injury. 🌲🌳
✅ Thunderstorms: If you have any sedative medications to keep your pet calm during storms/fireworks, today is a good time to use them! ⛈️ 💊Alternatives could be playing the radio/TV/AC units or fans to make background noise to drown out the thunder. Calming pheromones can also help ( )
✅ Keep your animals that frequent the outdoors inside today. Thunder and heavy rainfall can spook them to run off and get lost. Keep outdoor cats inside! 🙀

☀️🚘 Summer Safety Tip!
We’ve been seeing a few posts lately about dogs running off (and sometimes getting injured 🤕) after jumping out of car windows 😬
Just a friendly reminder… if you’re going to be driving around with your pets in the car, either keep your windows up with the AC on 🧊 and/or use a pet safe seatbelt/harness.
•Pets can experience road rash/abrasions and even broken bones 🦴🩻, especially with the vehicle traveling at high speeds 🏎️

This little guy (now much more bigger!) was diagnosed with Parvovirus last month and made a full recovery after being hospitalized with us and his regular vet for a few days!
Mom says he’s now living his life to the fullest and full of zest 🍋 💕
Parvovirus is a virus that attacks the GI tract in puppies that haven’t been vaccinated yet 🤮. It can be very fatal when left untreated. Luckily, Bruno’s parents brought him in just in time to get him the help he needed to make a full recovery ❤️🩹🩺

All babes and mama made a full recovery after an eventful night 🍼🥱

Not only is it 🐪 day… but it’s also Reception/ACA Appreciation Week 🥳
Receptionists and Animal Care Attendants are an integral part of the veterinary hospital, the “front lines” if you will 📞 💪
🏥 When you call the clinic, you most likely will have the privilege of speaking to one of our very knowledgeable and caring Receptionist’s/ACA’s who help keep troubled or scared clients calm so they can arrive with their pet who is having an emergency and give them the best advice possible to transport them.
Animal Care Attendants work tirelessly making sure all the animals “suites” stay clean, fresh and comfortable 😚 🧼 and give some much needed TLC to sick animals that need some of the extra comforts they miss from home 💕
Both departments also keep an entire clinic clean and free of contagious illnesses from ill pets 🤧 🦠
If the comments section would allow… they do that AND so much more!!! 🙌🙏🤲
If you happen to have the pleasure of speaking to one our beloved Receptionists or ACA’s, be sure to compliment them on a job well done and thank them for their dedication and hard work 💕

Enrichment… what is it? •en·rich·ment (noun) The action of improving or enhancing the quality or value of something. •Being sick can be stressful, especially for cats! Not only do our cat patients have their very own ward (separate from 🐶), but we also try to make their stay enjoyable when they’re away from home and feeling ill 🤒. •Ever watch a good TV series and lay in bed when you’re feeling under the weather? Well… Bird TV is for the cats 😂 🪶🐦⬛ •These guys LOVED watching some birds/squirrels skitter around on the iPad… it was like being at home watching them through the window! 🥰 🐱
Ok, let’s get serious here and talk about 💩 😂 We wanted to share a success story about a lovely girl named Luna 🐈⬛ who was just a “weeee bit backed up” to say the least 😳 💩 🤕 Constipation can occur more commonly in cats for a few reasons: •Cats tend to not drink very much💦 •Obesity🍽️ •Age📜 •Stress (moving homes, even changing the type of litter 😮) •GI conditions/illness (megacolon) 😿 ~Some cats can require just a few enemas, and some VERY constipated cats have to be hospitalized on IV fluids to rehydrate them, be given pain meds and laxatives plus enemas to help them 💩. Severe cases require sedating to manually extract the impacted feces 💉 •Luna is doing a happy dance 💃 to celebrate being “empty” after being hospitalized with us, hooray 🥳 You can see her before and after x-rays to show just how “backed up” she really was 🩻 • • Permisison to post by owner
Big breath in… and everybody exhale and say, “Ahhhhhhhhhhh” 🧖♀️ 🧖♂️ Our little friend Gus was in a bit of a “sticky” situation the other day 😝. He found a household mouse glue trap 🐭 in his home and while he managed to break free of it himself, he was covered in the very viscous, sticky glue all over 😢 With some pain meds and a few medicated baths, Gus was cleared to go home! We thought we’d share his “spa day experience “ as we combed out the glue chunks from his fur, he was such a champ! 🪥 • •Permission to post by owner
🐈⬛ The Cat Ward 🐈 • We know that leaving home can sometimes be stressful for some of our feline friends, especially when they’re not feline well (😉). We have implemented different tactics and strategies to help alleviate some typical in-hospital stresses while staying at our clinic: • • •separate ward from dogs 🚫🐕 •#feliwayoptimum diffuser 😌 •#icalmcat music box 🎼 •comfortable bedding 🛏️ •adequate sized litter box 💩
