Nina’s Bucket List Adventure #6:

Nina wants to look her best over the holiday season, so her latest adventure was a luxurious spa day. A big thank you to Bradley at The Big FUR Grooming Shop in Windsor for her nail trim. We would definitely recommend him for any of your pet’s grooming needs!

🩷 Pretty in Pink 🩷

A huge thank you to Pet Valu in Windsor for all their generous support of Wendal’s Way and our 2 senior ladies in care. Jessie, our little diva, is rocking her new hot pink collar. And Nina is loving her new pink puppy Kong since she’s a puppy at heart.

Wow! We are so grateful to everyone who donated to Wendal's Way during Giving Tuesday…$595!!! That's so incredibly helpful to a small, new rescue like ours. Because new or not, we have dogs in care and your generous support will go directly towards our vet bills. Like those for Jessie…
…she’s been with us now for close to 4 wks and she has settled in beautifully. She is such an easy going girl, loves everyone she meets, and is so trusting she will happily roll over on her back to get belly rubs. However, she does have some medical issues…her teeth are rotted which must be quite painful for her. She is currently on antibiotics which is helping, but it’s only a stopgap until she can have dental surgery, when she will more than likely lose all her teeth. As well, she needs to be spayed. But before we can take care of those issues, Jessie needs to lose some weight because it would be dangerous for her to be under anesthesia at this point. We want this curvaceous lady to be able to live her best life, and to do that, she needs to drop some pounds. She is now on a very strict diet, and once she gets to a safe weight, we can proceed with addressing her other issues. All your generous donations will help to make a dent in Jessie’s upcoming vet bills. So once again thank you from the bottom of our hearts. And let’s show Jessie some love and support through her ongoing journey

Xander has let us know that sadly, far too early in the season, the plows were out in full force in Hants County yesterday, Dec 3. No one guessed that date, but Ruth Angevine guessed Dec 4, so she was the closest. Congratulations Ruth! We'll be reaching out to you to arrange delivery of your Wendal's Way prize pack. Thanks to Xan Has His Eye On The Sky for helping us out with this fun little contest.

WIN WITH XAN GIVEAWAY

Xan has his eye on the sky and nose to the ground wondering when will the plow drop! Xan our official weather man is holding a little contest, his way of supporting Wendal’s Way….guess the date when the snow plows are out for the first time this season in Hants County NS. That’s where Xan & his servants, whoops we mean parents, live (and we’re not talking salt trucks, but honest to goodness snow plows). The person with the closest correct date will win a surprise gift, Wendal's Way of saying thank you for all your support. So start your guessing now…before the snow flies and the plows drop!

We had a great time at Pet Valu today. Thank you to everyone who dropped by and purchased quilt raffle tickets and made donations to our rescue. Enjoy some of our photos from the event, including Nina our beautiful, gentle-souled sanctuary dog, Scooter (IVDD hasn't slowed him down at all!), & volunteer Sandra's sweet little Zowie.

On November 22, 2011, a tiny, rather scruffy, black and tan dachshund gained his wings. That little dog was WENDAL, the inspiration for our rescue. You see, in 2009 Wendal escaped from a horrifying life as a bait dog for pitbull fighting. He came into rescue emaciated, severely malnourished, with an enlarged heart, almost no teeth, and mobility issues due to a previously fractured pelvis from being kicked about like a football. Through a serendipitous series of events, he arrived into our chair, Paula Romanow’s care. It was instant love, at least on her part. Wen took a little time to make up his mind! But with a lot of love and care, proper food, medication, supplements, chiropractic treatments, and lots of vet visits, this scruffy little waif turned into the kindest, sweetest, little spark of joy. Sadly he was only given two more years before all his health challenges caught up with him, but he lived those last years to the fullest. On that cold November day twelve years ago today, he was tired and ready to go, and slipped peacefully away safe in Paula’s arms (if you'd like to read more about Wendal's journey, here is a link to his page on our website https://wenswaydoxrescue.com/wendals-story/ ).

We feel that Wendal’s life embodies what our new rescue is all about – helping all dachshunds in need, but especially those whose medical and emotional challenges are greatest. And so we honoured him by naming our rescue in his memory. His story – and life – are our constant reminder of why we do what we do, and who we do it for.

We have decided to mark Wendal’s life by making November 22nd an annual memorial celebration for all the pets who have passed, especially those in the last year. We are asking our supporters to consider making a donation to Wendal’s Way in memory of your own pet, or the pet of a loved one. Every penny of donations goes to helping pay the vet bills of our dogs in care – what better way to remember those who have passed than with helping those still here to have a better life?

We welcome you to share a photo of your pet who has crossed the Rainbow Bridge in the comments below.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
