🐾 Meet Ravenna!
Ravenna is a 20-year-old senior girl who arrived to SHAID in July 2022. She was rehomed and returned twice since this time due to a sassy personality. She has since become much more content and enjoys the company of the staff who's been caring for her. ❤️
She is still looking for her retirement home with someone able to manage her medical diagnosis of kidney failure as well as arthritis. Ravenna is on a daily oral liquid medication to manage her kidney function and she also gets 2 medications for arthritis; a weekly and every 3 week injectable medication. Both these injectable medications can be adjusted to pill form for easier administration for any potential new owner. 💉
😸What Ravenna is looking for in a potential new owner; someone with previous experience with owning a cat in kidney failure or someone with training and knowledge with how to give daily medications. 🩺 Someone who has a relationship with a veterinarian and financially able to continue her medical needs with frequent check ups. If you think you can provide Ravenna with the retirement home she's looking for please contact the shelter to set up a meet and greet with her and fill out an application. 🚨 Warning to Pet Owners: Antifreeze is DEADLY to Pets 🚨

As winter sets in, it's important to be aware of the hidden dangers around your home—specifically antifreeze. 🧊💧

Antifreeze, often used in vehicles and for outdoor equipment, contains ethylene glycol, a substance that is highly toxic to pets, even in small amounts.

🐾 Why is it dangerous?

It has a sweet taste that can attract pets, especially dogs and cats.
Just a small lick or accidental ingestion can cause severe damage to their kidneys and, in some cases, be fatal.
Symptoms include vomiting, lethargy, uncoordinated movement, and excessive thirst.
💡 What to do:

Store antifreeze in sealed, pet-proof containers.
Clean up any spills immediately.
Keep pets indoors as much as possible, especially during cold weather.
👉 If you suspect your pet has ingested antifreeze, get them to a vet immediately. Time is critical!

Our Story

We are located at: 950 Mullock Rd in Whynotts Settlement, just outside of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. We are open daily from 11am-3pm for drop-offs, pick-ups, donations, and applications. We have a new adoption process! Please download an application from our website, www.shaidanimalshelter.com under the ‘adoptions’ tab and we will contact you with an appointment if the pet is still available to meet.

We rely 100% on community support, and are always appreciative of monetary donations, and donations of non-clumping litter or wood pellets, canned cat food, vinyl gloves, dry kitten food, laundry detergent, and clean towels.
