K9Crusaders

K9Crusaders We are a registered non-profit CANADIAN based group working to support and facilitate animal rescue primarily within Ontario and Quebec.

As supporters of the humane treatment of animals, we want to see all adoptable animals find a loving and caring forever home. Our objective is to enter into fundraising activities that will enable us to provide responsible rescue to homeless animals which will include the provision of spay/neuter, vaccinations and microchipping as well as all necessary medical treatments and rehabilitation to ensu

re successful, lifelong adoptions. We will work collaboratively with both local and high kill shelters to try to rescue senior, special needs and death row animals first and foremost - to save as many lives as we can. We will also partner with other animal-based initiatives to strengthen and unify the rescue community and to increase resources for pet parents within our local communities and beyond.

💜RESCUE NEWS💜
Our second intake today is Minnie, an adorable senior Yorkie who recently found herself in need of rescue. We have been told she has never seen a vet in her entire 12 years of life, which is evident by her advanced oral health disease. A spay and dental are our top priority for Minnie once she has settled into her new foster home. Stay tuned for updates on this little one as we strive to get her feeling her best and adoption ready!

Today we welcome Werthers, a gorgeous 2 year-old Golden Retriever who is now getting his second chance at a happily-ever-after. Werthers is one of two dogs we have pulled out of Quebec pounds who made their way to our loving arms today thanks to the wonderful volunteers of who safely escorted them.

Stay tuned for updates on Werthers, as well as our second rescue, coming shortly!

💜K9C ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT - OWEN💜
It will be six years ago this April that our community opened their hearts to Owen when we rescued him in dire medical condition. Just 72 hours after suffering back to back seizures for several consecutive hours, resulting in the swelling of his brain and his body temperature to soar an excess of 43°, Owen miraculously left the medical clinic in Quebec to start his new journey here in Ontario with K9C. His foster family fell in love with his incredible spirit and beautiful soul and they opted to adopt Owen and today cannot imagine their lives without him. Our rescue stays involved with this dedicated family to help with the extremely high cost of his medication’s every month and as a result of our combined hard work and love for him, Owen is now well managed, and typically only suffers one seizure every 2 to 3 months. His family tells us that giving Owen a calm, quiet and predictable daily routine has made a huge difference for him. They continue to work closely with a specialist to monitor and adjust his medication as needed to ensure he continues to have the very best quality of life. His recovery was truly a miracle, and his family feels blessed to have him in their lives. Owen is a dog we will never forget…and we are certain there are a lot of people out there who will remember him and his plight as well. We are so happy to say that he truly did find his happily ever after, and we are even happier that we got to be a part of that for him!! Our “leaps of faith” don’t always play out the way we hope, but in Owen’s case, he is living a better life than we could’ve ever dreamed of for him in those early days. He is a perfect example of why rescue matters!! 💜

💜RESCUE NEWS💜
We saw this sad, scared little face on our list of dogs in need of rescue placement and we could not move fast enough to commit to her! Just yesterday, Princess Maeve was escorted by the always kind folks at from the pound where she was left, to the safety of her new loving foster home.

The transformation that we have seen over the past 12 hours in her comfort and confidence serves as a heartwarming reminder of why we are still doing this 12 years in. Because, every single life we are able to save has value…even on our hardest days…it’s worth it to see these babies go from discarded, scared and heartbroken to loved, confident and happy.🥰

We can’t wait to see how much more resilient little Maeve will blossom as we support her on her journey to find her happily-ever-after! 🌺

Stay tuned!💜

💜MEDICAL UPDATE💜
Last summer we brought Dory, an adorable 8 year old Yorkie, into our rescue… confident that she would be a quick adoption with her happy and super sweet personality. Not long after her arrival however, she was showing concerning symptoms that prompted us to do some diagnostics which ultimately confirmed our fears that she was suffering with a failing heart. We moved her from our list of adoptable dogs to palliative care and hoped for the possibility that with medical treatment, she could still have a significant amount of time. However, Dory’s heart function continued to decline even with treatment and our steadily increasing her meds to keep her comfortable. Additionally, we also recently learned that her kidneys are also not functioning well, and the treatment for her heart is actually putting more strain on them, so it has been a situation we have been carefully balancing for as long as we possibly could. Unfortunately, it has become clear that Dory is now end-stage and we are preparing to let her go to the bridge 🌈, likely within days.

We want to thank her Foster Mama for the time, energy and deep love that she has poured into this precious angel to ensure that her history of being passed from home to home and ultimately ending up in a pound before rescue, is long forgotten. She has been treated like the princess she is since she arrived, and she will be deeply missed.

We wish we could save them all, but even when we can’t, our emotional and financial commitment is unwavering for all of our palliative care dogs, for as long as they are comfortable and happy.

Please send all your love and positive energy to Dory and Foster Mama Pat as we all prepare to say our difficult goodbyes.💜

💜MEDICAL UPDATE💜
Late last summer, we opened our hearts to this adorable puppy who was found dumped and wandering in the rain. It was clear she had mobility issues, but we were not certain of the root cause at that time. She was welcomed into her foster home and immediately stole the heart of her Foster Mom who quickly made up her mind that she was “all in” and would stand by this precious baby through whatever was to come. So began little Cali’s medical journey. X-rays clearly showed that Cali was born without hip sockets and today she underwent the first of two femoral head osteotomy procedures which should make her much more comfortable and improve her mobility long-term. Thankfully this spunky little gal is not likely to let these surgeries slow her down for too long as her love of her life and sassy personality makes it likely that this is just a minor setback her plan for a long and happy life in her foster-to-forever home!

As always, your donations and support of our fundraising initiatives and online auction page make it possible for us to ensure all of our rescued animals get the very best care we can offer them. We could not do what we do without you - our extended family. 🙏

If you would like to contribute to our medical fund, e-transfers can be sent to [email protected]. We also accept credit card transactions through our secure online portal:

Please send pawsitive vibes Cali’s way and stay tuned for more updates on her recovery and happily-ever-after! 💜

It’s so nice to revisit past K9C adoptees and see them enjoying their happily-ever-after.🥰

So let’s remember all the way to 2016, when then Autumn—now known as Rosie—found her forever home through K9Crusaders. Here she is today, nine years later, and how wonderful it is to see our sweet girl thriving and living her very best life. Still enjoying her walks and chasing squirrels!🐿️

Thanks to her paw’rents for choosing to rescue!!

We are so happy we could be a part of your journey, little one!💜

LONG OVERDUE UPDATE…💜
All the way back in June we brought Thelma and Louise into our care. This adorable bonded pair were believed to possibly be mother (T) and daughter (L) and the reason they have been with us for such a long time is that Thelma is a difficult medical case, and as it turns out, a bit of a medical mystery. Upon her arrival her red blood cell count was dangerously low and we have been working closely with Dr. Michelle to identify the root cause and to bring her count up high enough to where she can safely be spayed, which ultimately we hope will resolve this issue. It has certainly been a long, slow haul but we are hopeful that surgery is not far off and if, as suspected, her condition is related to her uterus, she will be able to make a full recovery and live a long and happy life. Please keep Thelma in your thoughts as we do all we can to give her a bright and happy future ahead! 🙏

ADOPTION FEE LOWERED!! PLEASE SHARE TO HELP ABBY FIND HER HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER💜

Last November, this gorgeous girl reached a rather sad milestone, when she hit the one-year mark in rescue without finding her forever home.😞

As an active, older, large-breed dog, odds have not been in her favour as we have seen adoptions dramatically trending towards small, younger dogs over the past few years. But, Abby is a happy, bouncy and beautiful soul - and we want desperately to help her find her forever family, so we are asking for your help!🙏

At the beginning of this year, we received a very generous and unexpected donation. While we normally earmark all incoming donations to go towards our medical fund, this time around, we are using a portion of these unexpected funds to reduce Abby’s adoption fee for the right family. Our normal adoption fee for an adult dog is $600, but with this sponsorship, we are asking for only $100 for this wonderful girl who found herself displaced from her foster home as she was not a good match for the resident cats.

Here is a summary of what Abby needs to ensure a successful, forever placement:

• An active, feline-free home within Ontario (preference to families closer to our home base in Northumberland County)

• A patient family with a love for large, higher energy breeds and a willingness to work with Abby on her leash skills and basic obedience, while providing lots of opportunities for exercise and play!

• A home with an abundance of love to offer this deserving girl!

While Abby is dog friendly, she can be a little bit possessive of love and attention, and she may do best as a solo dog.

All applications received will be screened to meet our standards, and as always we will be looking for the very best fit for Abby.

Let’s see how many shares we can get to help Abby find her way home! One dog placed means another dog can be saved...🐾

💜RESCUE NEWS💜
We are squeezing in one last miracle before Christmas for this adorable little guy who found himself without a family just before the holidays. Carson is 5 years old and is said the be an absolute angel, without any behavioural concerns - a happy boy who loves everyone he meets! Thanks to his new foster family, Carson will not be spending Christmas alone in a pound, but rather in a soft warm bed, surrounded by love. Special thanks to our good friends at who are on the road today, bringing Carson safely to our loving arms.

Stay tuned for updates and Merry Christmas everyone!! 🎄

💜RESCUE NEWS💜
Thank you for safely delivering 3 year old Yorkie mix Jax, to our loving arms yesterday. This cutie found himself surrendered to a Quebec pound when his family could no longer house him. He is a little under socialized but very sweet in spite of his uncertainty of all the scary changes he has faced recently.

Jax wants to say a great big thank you to ALL the foster families like his, who open their hearts and homes to animals in need. The number of abandoned animals we see is staggering and for every one rescued and placed in foster care until their forever home is found, another animal will have their chance at the same. So many rescues are working harder than ever before to keep up with the great need but we cannot do it alone.

Thank you to all who foster, volunteer, donate, and share our posts. 🙏

Stay tuned for more on adorable Jax in the days to come. 💜
