Gus sure is quite the catch!😉 Gus’s dad called us Friday noticing he had a fish hook stuck in his lip!🎣🪝 Thanks to the team and Gus’s good demeanour, we were able to easily and safely remove the hook from his mouth!

BBQ & Corn season is upon us! 🌽
Who doesn’t love a buttery corn cob? Especially your dog!!

As yummy as they are - there is a real danger if your dog ingests corn on the cob: the culprit being the cob 🚨
A corn cob can often pass through the esophagus but is not digestible in the stomach and can become the perfect plug in the small intestines. If this happens, surgery would be required to remove the corn cob as they do not commonly pass through on their own.

🐶 Meet Ellie: A sweet girl who couldn’t resist a quick counter surf for some yummy corn cobs!
After Ellie helped herself and ingested the corn cobs, Ellie’s parents acted quickly and called our clinic. We tried to induce vomiting with no success.
Ellie ultimately had to have surgery to remove the 2 corn cobs from her stomach.
Her recovery was short and sweet…. and we don’t fully believe she regrets her decision!

‼️ Corn cobs in the garbage and compost are also at risk to be ingested by your dog 🗑️ 🌿🌱

Tis the season for black flies and ticks! 🪰 We have had an increased amount of calls from concerned owners who think that their dog has a bullseye mark from a tick bite. It is important to know it is very uncommon to observe a bullseye lesion in a dog who has been bitten by ticks.

The photo below shows an example of black fly bites on a dog’s abdomen. It is most common to find these bites in the groin area, belly, face, or anywhere that the skin is exposed, with minimal amounts of hair. These bite marks will typically resolve on their own and will not require treatment.
