Captain and Millie working on some impromptu confidence building with the puppy swing. A little food and competitive motivation to help them be successful with something they might not have tried is a great way to boost confidence that will carry over into their training. #pawsforwarddogtraining #dogtraining #dogtrainer #confidencebuilding
Millie working on place with distractions. This is also a great example of avoidance which we see with anything that is distracting for the dog (specifically in the context of reactivity). What dogs are looking at is what they are thinking about and Millie is trying really hard not to look (to avoid) the birds. She knows if she watches them for too long she will not be able to control herself but she is doing a great job at avoiding looking too long. She also starts sniffing the ground with is a common way a dog will try to work through the stress of avoidance so it’s something to watch for and even allow/reward your dog for doing in the correct context. Avoidance turns into acceptance once the dogs have built up enough impulse control. #pawsforwarddogtraining #goldenretriever #dogtraining
Millie showing off a few things in this video. Her heeling is fantastic and she definitely shows an understanding of the position both while moving and while coming in from the front. Also sit with eye contact, waiting for the release command. #pawsforwarddogtraining #dogtraining #dogtrainer #ontariodogs #goldenretriever
