This afternoon, before Mommy Connections Hamilton arrived, I was outside finishing a few last-minute things with Aria tucked into my puffer vest. Opal and Sterling were bouncing around in our profile bunny playground. We were having a content moment — Aria was wrapped in a blanket, resting quietly while I worked, the other buns rustling in the leaves.

Then Aria suddenly jumped.

I looked over to Opal and Sterling in the bunny playground and noticed they were both thumping — soft enough that my human ears barely caught it, but loud enough in bunny language that Aria heard it instantly from my arms. That’s when I started scanning the sky.

Three predator birds were circling overhead, each loop sinking a little lower than the last.

I wasn’t sure what to do, so I tucked Aria deeper into my vest and called Steve for backup. I moved into the bunny playground and instinctively, I stretched my arms wider to make myself look bigger. I don’t know if it made a difference — but I think it did. After a few tense minutes, the birds drifted off.

It left me thinking about how unbelievably sensitive rabbits need to be. How attuned they are to the world, how quietly they communicate danger to one another, and how fast their instincts respond.

Moments like this remind me why it’s so important that our interactions with them are calm, respectful, and consent-based. They navigate the world with ancient instincts still alive in their bodies. Honouring that feels essential here.

We said goodbye to our old Kubota. 🧡🚜 Nothing makes you feel more like a farmer than having to part ways with your tractor.

We bought this one from a farm in Quebec near Ottawa. It needed some love, and Steve thought he could take on most of the repairs himself. And honestly? This tractor did a lot. It moved more things than we can count, plowed snow through the winters, and somehow became part of the “charm” at events… if old tractors can be charming? (Check out that tractor seat 😬 Charming??)

Just as the first snow arrived this month, the engine finally gave out — and not in a “get a part and fix it” kind of way. We had to find a replacement quickly and ended up trading this big bear in. Getting it off the property and onto a trailer was an ordeal in itself.

As farming disappears locally, you find yourself driving farther and farther for tractor repairs and dealerships. Local food sustainability isn’t just about growing produce — it’s also about the small businesses that keep farms running.

Farewell, dear Kubota. Thanks for all the work you did for our little farm. 🧡🌾

Today I had the pleasure of sharing our farm with our local MP Adam van Koeverden.

We were actually in the same university program at McMaster, I was just a few years ahead of him. It was interesting to hear about his career and how he got into politics from kinesiology.

I discovered other overlaps too - a passion for community, elevating youth voices, a love for the environment, and supporting health and wellness. And the best part — he already knows all about bunnies because he’s had them as pets. 🐇💛

We were also honoured to receive a certificate recognizing the farm — such a thoughtful and unexpected surprise!

Looking forward to having you on the farm again soon Adam!

First snow of the season and although I'm not a winter person... I love it. Don't hate me, but I'm hoping for another snowy winter. ❄️☕☃️

I haven’t posted in a while. I’ve just been trying to keep up with real life, plugging away at my to-do list.

This week, while planting bulbs for next spring, I noticed these late raspberries — likely the very last ones before the snow arrives - and I stopped for a moment and smiled. What a nice surprise. There is still sweetness here, even at the edge of the season.

Two of my friends have been coining the phrase "deep fall" to capture this season. It feels nice to embrace the greyness and coldness that happen before the holidays. And what better way to show appreciation to the season than to slow down, squirrel away, and get cozy.

If you're moving a little slower or feeling a little quieter, I’m with you. May we find sweetness where it still lingers. 🍂❤️

The ears may be floppy, but the carving game is sharp. ✨

I asked my friend — who has been carving legendary pumpkins for as long as I’ve known him — if he could make bunny pumpkins for the farm this year. He didn’t just say yes… he brought his son into the carving team. 🧡

There’s something special about traditions like this — the kind that get carved right into the season itself. Creativity passed to the next generation, bringing smiles to everyone who gets to witness it.

And that’s our little hop-o-lantern moment for today. May your pumpkins be cute and your snacks be crunchy. 🥕🎃🐰
