Don't wait for your cat to meow in pain. Look out for the signs of urinary problems: licking ge****ls, straining to urinate, going more often, or in smaller amounts, drinking more water, and going outside the litter box. Some felines don't show symptoms until it's too late, which is why scheduling regular checkups is crucial for your furry friend's health. Stay vigilant to keep your cat healthy and happy.

Cats and dogs should be kept indoors during cold weather, as it's a common misconception that animals are more resistant to the cold because of their fur. Like humans, they are susceptible to frostbite and hypothermia, making it safer to keep them inside. When temperatures drop below freezing, it's essential not to leave your pets outside for long periods, especially cats, short-coated dogs, and puppies, who are more vulnerable to the cold. To protect them, keep cats indoors and limit your dogs’ outdoor time to short intervals to prevent frostbite or hypothermia. On especially cold days, consider using sweaters or coats for dogs to provide extra warmth. Additionally, avoid shaving your dog’s coat in winter, as a longer coat offers better insulation, except when matted fur needs to be removed, as it can make them more prone to the cold. Lastly, if you bathe your dog in winter, make sure they are fully dry before taking them outside. Also, when walking your dog, be mindful of salt on sidewalks—choose pet-safe salt to prevent irritation or injury to their paws.

Don't let your furry friends fall ill this holiday season! 🐾🎄🎅

As you deck the halls with boughs of holly and indulge in festive feasts, remember to keep hazardous holiday foods and plants away from your pets. Chocolate, raisins, garlic and onions, along with poinsettias, holly and mistletoe are just a few examples of items that can cause serious health problems for your furry friends. Also, keep a close eye on your kitty friends as Holiday Lilys are extremely toxic!

Here are some important points about canine parvovirus (CPV):
Symptoms
Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, lethargy, fever, and abdominal pain.
Transmission
CPV is highly contagious and can spread through direct contact with an infected dog or by indirect contact with contaminated objects.
Risk factors
Puppies between 6 weeks and 6 months are most commonly affected, but older dogs can also be affected. Puppies are protected by their mother's antibodies until they are about 8–10 weeks old.
Treatment
There is no cure for CPV, but supportive care can help a dog's body fight it off. This can include hospitalization, intravenous fluids, antiemetics, and nutritional support.
Survival
Survival rates range from 65–95% and depend on how quickly a dog receives veterinary care. Dogs that receive treatment within the first four days of showing symptoms have a good chance of recovering.
Prevention
Puppies should receive one or two vaccines before they are 16 weeks old. Some breeds may require an additional vaccine at 20 weeks.
Environmental impact
CPV is hardy and can survive in the environment for up to a year. It can live in soil and on objects like food or water bowls, collars, and leashes.
Other mammals
CPV is species specific, so humans and cats are safe from it.
