Pawsitive Vet Visits 🐾

Ollie wasn’t exactly thrilled about his vaccines, but he was such a brave boy during his appointment! 🐶 Dr. Hughes made the experience a lot less stressful with her gentle and playful approach — making sure Ollie felt as comfortable as possible.

And of course, no visit would be complete without a tasty cookie to wrap things up — definitely the highlight for the big guy! 🍪💕

It’s that time again! 🗓️

Charlie was in for his annual 4Dx test to check for heartworm 🪱 and tick-borne diseases! Though he was a bit nervous, he sat super still with Marie (ACA) while Julia (RVT) collected his blood—such a brave boy! 🐶

Why does 4Dx testing matter?

Because heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal condition caused by parasitic worms that live in the heart, lungs, and blood vessels of infected dogs. It’s spread by mosquitoes, and because early infection has no symptoms, yearly testing is crucial—even for dogs on prevention. If left undetected, heartworm disease can lead to heart failure and lung damage.

And tick-borne diseases like Lyme, Anaplasmosis, and Ehrlichiosis can cause joint pain, fever, lethargy, and even severe organ damage. Some dogs show no obvious signs of illness, which is why early detection is KEY 🔑.

If your dog hasn’t had their 4Dx test yet, now’s the time to book it! 🩺🐾

Say hello to Ms Goody McKay, she is a 13 1/2 year old Chihuahua originally from Texas, and who was rescued by Texas Chihuahua Rescue. She was adopted by a wonderful family who are giving her all the love and attention she never had and always deserved. She is the absolute sweetest pup you’ll ever meet!! We always love to see her. 🥰

Winter walks can be tough on our furry friends, but Bailey is staying warm and protected in her cozy gear. Remember, snow and ice can be harsh on paws—boots help prevent frostbite and irritation from salt and ice-melting chemicals.

If your pet isn’t a fan of winter like Bailey, keep walks short, dry their paws after outings, and consider a warm coat. Stay safe and cozy out there! 🐶❤️

Valentine’s Day is all about love 💕 and sweet treats, but for our pets, it can mean a trip to the vet!

Chocolate toxicity is a common emergency this time of year, thanks to all the treats left within reach. Even a small amount can be toxic because of theobromine, a compound dogs can’t break down properly. Here’s how much is in different types of chocolate: 🍫

🔸 Milk Chocolate – 44 mg theobromine per ounce
🔸 Dark Chocolate – 150-160 mg per ounce
🔸 Baking Chocolate – 400-450 mg per ounce
🔸 White Chocolate – Very little theobromine, but still NOT safe!

Even tiny amounts can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, rapid heart rate, and even seizures. No chocolate is safe for pets—keep it out of reach!

Behind The Scenes 🔬 Blood Smear Prep

Did you know that a simple blood smear can reveal a wealth of information about your pet’s health? When we analyze blood samples, we don’t just rely on machines—looking at a stained blood smear under the microscope gives us critical details about what’s happening inside your pet’s body!

Our veterinary technician McKayla is carefully preparing a blood smear by spreading a thin layer of blood onto a slide. This allows her to examine individual cells up close.

After she makes the smear, she stains the slide. Staining helps us see:

⭕️ Red blood cells – Checking for anemia, shape abnormalities, or parasites
⚪️ White blood cells – Assessing immune function and signs of infection
🔵 Platelets – Ensuring proper clotting ability
🦠 Blood parasites – Identifying hidden infections that might not show up on routine tests
