Behind The Scenes 🔬 Blood Smear Prep
Did you know that a simple blood smear can reveal a wealth of information about your pet’s health? When we analyze blood samples, we don’t just rely on machines—looking at a stained blood smear under the microscope gives us critical details about what’s happening inside your pet’s body!
Our veterinary technician McKayla is carefully preparing a blood smear by spreading a thin layer of blood onto a slide. This allows her to examine individual cells up close.
After she makes the smear, she stains the slide. Staining helps us see:
⭕️ Red blood cells – Checking for anemia, shape abnormalities, or parasites
⚪️ White blood cells – Assessing immune function and signs of infection
🔵 Platelets – Ensuring proper clotting ability
🦠 Blood parasites – Identifying hidden infections that might not show up on routine tests
