Common Ground Farm

Common Ground Farm A small, intergenerational family-run community farm OUR PHILOSOPHY:

Our food system promotes nutrition, deliciousness, and local economies.

The benefits of a CSA based food system are plentiful. Besides providing fresh, organically grown produce, a CSA farm fosters unity and encourages community participation by connecting the non-farmer with the challenges and rewards of farming. While members share the inevitable risks of sustainable, natural farming, they also share the abundant reward of a bountiful harvest. Both RISK and REWARD c

ontribute greatly to an appreciation of the food that nourishes both body and soul. HOW OUR CSA WORKS:

YOU purchase a pre-season SHARE from us. Your contribution is wholly invested into the farm, directly benefitting you with the season’s freshest, naturally grown, produce. Your basket of goodies will be delivered on a weekly basis from late June until late October to your neighborhood drop-site, or will be available for pick-up at the farm. If you’re worried you won’t be able to get through a whole basket of vegetables in one week or just can’t commit to an entire season of deliciousness, we have a few options for you…

You may commit to a WEEKLY SHARE, paying at least one week in advance, on a on a week-to week basis…

You may also choose to DONATE baskets or portions of to our FOOD SHARE subsidy program, which provides baskets to families unable to pay an entire share price…OR at your request, we can donate your fresh vegetables to a local food program. HOME GROWN...

Common ground community farm is fully SUSTAINABLE. INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT (IPM) replaces pesticides by naturally re-integrating beneficial insects into farming practices. These beneficial insects prey on pests, helping to keep them out of our gardens. COVER CROPS like clover are used in replacement of herbicides to manage soil fertility and to attract pollinators like bees. At common ground we have the highest standards of farming. While we are not certified organic, we use completely organic farming methods.

Two days ago, a decision was made to allow new genetically engineered (GE) seeds to be released into Canada without a mandatory disclosure system.

From Canadian Organic Growers:
"Organic farmers require mandatory disclosure of gene-edited seeds. To maintain their certification, organic farmers must be able to prove that the seeds they use are free from any contamination, including genetic engineering which is prohibited in the Canadian Organic Standards. Under this new voluntary system announced by Canada, organic farmers will not be able to meet this requirement and face the significant risk of losing their certification by inadvertently using undisclosed GE seed products. Farmers have the right to choose to grow food that meets the needs of their consumer without fear of contamination by undisclosed genetic engineered seed products."
