Remember the Mallard who had a stick "harness" around him? Well, he was released a couple of days ago! Happy #FreedomFriday
All kinds of wildlife situations are reported to Wildlife Rescue - this one, however, is one of the more unusual cases!
This Mallard, who seemed to have a stick impaled in his side, was rescued and brought to our facility. We were prepared for the worst, and had prepared to send him for surgery. Incredibly, the medical team found the stick not to be impaling the duck, but rather stuck around him, almost like a harness!
After a few days in care he's headed back into the wild! We are thankful for the heroes who helped this duck out of an uncomfortable situation!

Happy #FreedomFriday to this pair of Glaucous-winged Gulls! These two are part of the many who grew up in care at Wildlife Rescue last summer. And it looks like they're enjoying that fresh ocean air ⛱️🌊
This Eurasian-collared Dove was admitted to the Wildlife Hospital after being found with a wing injury. After care from medical staff, the bird has recovered and has since been released!

Another group of Glaucous-winged Gulls have grown up and have returned to the wild! We're wishing them all a very happy #FreedomFriday! Note: This video was taken in the fall.

Happy #FreedomFriday to this Brown-headed Cowbird! The bird had the honour of being the first release of the year. We're looking forward to many more to come.
The four toads admitted to our hospital recently are being carefully weighed every day to monitor their recovery before they can safely enter brumation for the winter. Over the course of a month, the temperature in their humid enclosure will be gradually lowered, and their diets reduced, allowing them to enter this hibernating state. Wish them luck this winter!
