A bit outside of the livestock or Anatolian box… Welcome to little Leela (previously “Symphony”, renamed by Madeline; my 5yr old daughter)… our new (first) registered purebred Oriental Shorthair… we are so excited for our future adventures 🥰 I had a senior Mainecoon cross who we recently said goodbye to at the glorious age of over 20yrs old, and I knew that finding the right breed to fit our family and needs was important. I researched and waited… grieving is an important part of the process.. and things finally fit together so perfectly.

We currently have some Alpacas and a llama on the property for over the winter, which has been a first for us and the dogs of course. Initially I was a tad worried about the transition with a completely new fluffy species… but I should know better than to doubt them, I’m always impressed. August quickly took to them, even after just the first few days or week I’d find him laying out with them and snoozing in the sun, cuddled in the shelter amongst them or sleeping in their hay bin while they ate around him lol. Considering August had just turned a year old at the time of their arrival, I was prepared for some serious corrections and monitoring… but after a couple supervised/leashed chore sessions and a stern “Leave it”… there was a profound understanding and it was quite impressive to watch. Poppy didn’t even blink twice at the new fluffy additions, basically just assuming responsibility for whatever we put in the pens lol.

It’s been a long while since we got some nice photos of this handsome guy… August has proven he really is the best of boys. It’s easy to forget that he’s truly still a puppy between his size and demeanour.. but he’s maturing so wonderfully.

Poppy went in for her OFA X-rays and I was amazed to have the results returned so quickly… and of course thrilled with her good reports 🥰 it’s also become evident I need to get out with my camera and get some updated photos of everyone 😅

Well it was just our luck that Poppy came into heat approaching our OFA testing… unfortunately we’ve had to rebook for a month away to ensure we have accurate results. So she’s been rescheduled for November 29th. This also sets back out expected next litter, as we were hopeful that she would cycle in the coming weeks after her results. So.. all good things come in time of course, but I would expect that we would be likely looking at a summer 2024 litter ❤️ Meanwhile… here are some spectacular northern lights I encountered when bringing wood in for the wood burning stove at 2:30am lol!

Spooky season is among us so we did some extra halloweeny decorating for our entry. It sure gets dark out quick now… the sunset creeps up fast!

Our autumn season and winter prep has been flying by with school being back in and we’ve had lots of changes around the farm… there have been some goodbyes and loss, but our new batch of broiler chicks have been busy growing, and our butcher calf was processed for us a bit ago. It’s sure a blessing to have full freezers to feed our family (along with extra treats for the dogs!). Poppy is booked in for her OFA hips and elbow x-rays on October 27th so we are very excited for things to be coming full circle for the potential of our first homebred pup to be having her own litter planned soon ❤️

Both our litters have impressed us immensely… we have young kids that have been hands on or very important additions to exposure right from the beginning.. but we are constantly so pleased with their demeanour and temperament 🖤 August is still just a pup but always consistent.. birthdays for everyone next week 🥹 our first litter will be 2 on the 19th (Poppy, DNA & health panel complete and waiting to do OFA), and our second litter will be 1 on the 20th (August)

Poppy’s results came back a bit ago, and we’re thrilled to see confirmation that her DNA & health panels all came back just as expected… we are patiently waiting for her to turn 2yrs old on September 19 so that we can pursue her OFA health testing. Pending her results, we have a few options for pairing her up to produce a litter.

Once we have testing back I’ll share an application incase anyone would be interested in a pup…. In the last year or so I’ve noticed a massive increase in “LGD-type crosses” being over bred, filling rescues and shelters etc. Although we are confident that our pups do not add to this issue, we want to ensure that we have appropriate homes/farms prepared and waiting for their partners.

Processed chickens today… and WOW. Lookit the size of these beauties 😍 Our biggest bird from this group weighed in at 8.8lbs, and the majority was 7+lbs! These birds are amazing from Rocky’s Little FarmHut 🥰 they are a distributor for Hembrough Custom Hatching… between the birds and the customer service, both of these businesses are just wonderful.

Being patient is sometimes not my best quality 😅 we finally had our Embark test arrive so Poppy is swabbed and we’re off to the post office to put a rush on it, so that we can get her results back in a timely manner and pursue her OFA health testing in September. Let the waiting game begin lol!

We still have "August" on site, as we often get inquiries regarding having adult dogs available... we are very small scale and don't produce many litters, so of course we typically don't offer adult dogs. I encourage people to still reach out though so that if we have a previous pup that comes into the situation of requiring being rehomed we can make those connections. We have been incredibly happy with this handsome boy, and he's been a fierce addition to our Anatolian team.

It's certainly been a crazy spring/summer and finally finding the time to do some updates and reach out to messages we've missed! If anyone has been waiting to hear from us, I should be reaching out in the next day or two. In the mean time, I'll be uploading some photos and random new happenings since the nice weather has finally hit.

It’s always hard to say goodbye to pups, but watching them move on to their new adventures fill me with pride knowing they’ll excel at whatever comes their direction. Beautiful Barley headed home with her new family which includes Lexi’s littermate/brother, Kodie! 🥰 this was Barleys first trip to the city and in a store (Peavey Mart) and aside from a bit of hesitation with the front door she had wonderful manners and listened great. Can’t wait to get an update once she’s settled 🥹
