Food is a powerful motivator. Anybody that has ridden here knows that 32 is an opinionated mare and she has some strong feelings about going in the barn. At one point she refused to go in there while sedated. And so, it was time for me to make an effort to change this behaviour. Over the winter I have been working on changing her mind about going inside without forcing her, without locking her up, but with R+. I have been putting her grain closer to the barn each day, and building her threshold to be near it. Then I started putting it just inside, and a little further each time without pushing her over her tolerance. Well today we hit our goal of going inside the barn as her own choice while allowing her to make the decision if she wants to remain in there or not. She went back and forth inside as she was comfortable but she always went back in and did finish all of her grain. #goals #goalachieved #thoroughbred #thoroughbredhorse #moodymare #bossmare #motivation #foodmotivated #positivereinforcementtraining #positivereinforcement #positivemindset #horsetraining #horsetrainer #horsetrainermoments #bigdeal

Decided to try something new this winter and joined the Gymkhana Club 🏇
We are having a blast and it’s a great way to keep some fitness through the winter. This sport is new to both me and 32, but she is catching on to the game 🏆

After breaking my arm I have been focusing all my attention on coaching young riders and those that want to learn about this challenging sport. I have not been in the saddle for six weeks… until today! I am nearing the end of my time with a cast and there is no more pain. So I thought we should take it for a test run on my mare, Angel. I don’t know why I chose my tallest horse to start with, as saddling was going to be my biggest challenge. But, here we are, doing it. I got her saddled, bridled and was able to go out for a quick hack. It took me quite a bit longer to get ready than it would have pre injury, but we did it. #backinthesaddle #rehab
Sad to have canceled all lessons this week due to the amount of rain we got hit with. We needed the rain, but maybe not all at once!
So to get some positivity flowing- Let's start a thread about riding lessons! 🤠
Share with us a photo from a lesson you had recently, your favorite lesson horse, or a WIN you had in one of your riding lessons!

First ride on my favorite Shire Horse. Goliath is cruising through his training and is proving to be a willing participant in this whole riding horse gig. Good job buddy!!
Goliath will be available for purchase once he is done his training with us.

Tucker turns in to a super hero in an instant when he gets his fly mask on. The horse flies are awful right now so the horses need all the help they can get ♥️

Our clear round at Parkland Equestrian Jumper Extravaganza on Sunday 🌞 We ended up placing third in this Optimum Time class.
The show was well organized and fun to be a part of. What a beautiful facility!
UNbridled
Took Angel to a fun clinic this last weekend at YKnott NORTH. Clinic was geared towards riding with no headgear on your horse; The only thing we had in our hands was a thin rope around the horses neck. It made my English riding brain have a little bit of a malfunction but we did it. Here is a short video of us going bridleless 🤩 our steering was not completely accurate, but that is all part of the process. We succeeded and that's the most important part! This concept was brand new to the both of us and it was fun to learn together.
I gained so much new insight over the course of the weekend and learned lots.
Favien- first saddling
Colt Starting School is going over really well. Today was a big day for both Journey and Favien; they graduated to wearing a saddle for the first time!
Video is of Favien and his annoyance at that weird thing strapped to his back. He had those few bucks, but overall was really good about it.
Getting closer to that first ride! 🤠🤠
