It is with a heavy heart that we announce Kai’s crossing over the rainbow bridge. He first came to us in 2016 as a retiree from a successful jumping career. Due to health issues he needed a slower pace and he settled in nicely to our program. Over the years his disease progressed to the point where it wasn’t being managed by an medications or lifestyle changes.

He crossed peacefully yesterday morning surrounded by his herd mates and the people who loved him the most.

The news is out!

Big news! In celebration of the move to our new facility and being in operation for over 10 years, we've decided to change our operating name to something that suits us even better! Going forward, we'll be operating as Freedom Reins Therapeutic Riding & Learning Centre. Please bear with us while we transition to this new brand!

With the poor air quality going on right now, all riding lessons are cancelled for today. Our AQHI is sitting at 111 for this morning and expected to keep rising as the day goes on. Our horses are taking it easy and those with breathing issues are getting their meds to help keep them as healthy and comfortable as possible. Stay safe out there!

It is not often we experience smokey conditions in our area as the whole North East is enduring these unprecedented conditions.

Please be aware of the severity of smoke inhalation and air quality over the next several days, especially in our equines. The particulates of smoke are not the same as pollen and other allergens we are use to which is why they pose a larger health concern during this time.

Below is a great chart to go by when assessing the AQI and when it becomes dangerous for horses. Please keep in mind if your horse has pre-existing health concerns like heaves they are at higher risk of complications.

Keep an eye out for signs of respiratory distress especially in horses already prone to problems. Some key signs are:

🌫️ Coughing
🌫️ Increased respiratory rate
🌫️ Labored / shallow breathing
🌫️ Nasal discharge
🌫️ Wheezing

If you believe your horse is experiencing any issues please do not hesitate to call the office and have them checked!
