Dr. Kim had the most adorable and polite foal as an assistant while his mom got her teeth floated🐴
Having patients this cute makes dentals way more fun! 👩🏼⚕️
Graphic content warning ‼️ A cool case featuring how this horse’s body reacted to physical trauma.
This guy suffered a kick to the chest by a pasture mate leading to an accumulation of serosanguineous fluid called a seroma. It was monitored over several days because often they will reabsorb on their own, but if not, draining is the next step to speed up the healing process. Dr. Kalteis did just this, first poked with a needle to determine what fluid we were dealing with and then went ahead, expanded the incisions and left a drain in to encourage drainage over the next week.
Never a dull moment when working with horses 🐴
Merry Christmas from all the staff at Ferguson Equine! We wanted to showcase some of our very own pets that we will be spending the holidays with 🥰 We hope everyone has a lovely holiday and we look forward to another great year! Also we want to wish our very own Andrea a very happy birthday 🥳 Enjoy your day, you deserve it! Hopefully your kitty gives you extra hugs this Christmas Eve.
Twins happen and they can be sneaky ! This is just one of the reasons pregnancy checks are so important. At 15 days it was simple to address and now this mare is safe, happy, and carrying one healthy embryo 🐴👍🏻
Help us in wishing Serenity a very Happy Birthday today, Thanks for everything you do for us 🙂
Ferguson Equine’s ‘Love Me Do’ aka Hugh showing us just how fancy he is 🤩 This guy is by DMF Blue Ferrari but looks so much like his mom, Charm 🐴 #largeponyhopeful
The newest arrival at the clinic is this cute filly by crème de la crème and she’s quickly finding her legs! Congrats to the lucky owners!
We have a 2 for 1 deal going on tonight!
Our first confirmed embryo of the year in a surrogate mare … very exciting 🥳👏🏼
A little video of Mel running some blood work back at the clinic 👩🏻🔬🧪🩸
Running your horses blood work is a good idea to keep track of overall physical health. It can also be helpful if you suspect they are having some sort of metabolic issues, Cushings, or even to check your horses Thyroid levels.
It’s also a good thing to do yearly blood work if you have an older horse or a horse on meds such as Previcox for long periods of time to check their kidney levels. 🤓
Did you know foals can sleep for up to 12 hours a day? … 😴💭
Some more findings from a recent gastroscope we did! 👨🏻⚕️ You can see here this horse had some bot worms in its stomach… Which is a good reminder of the importance of deworming
this time of year 🐛🪱
All horses carry worms. Some carry more than others … Most horses only need to be dewormed twice a year. In the spring, it is important to choose a dewormer that treats small stronglyes. (Ivermectin or Moxidectin)
A Fecal Egg Count is a good way of letting you know how many worm eggs your horse is shedding, as well as which kind of worms your horse is carrying. From there we can recommend which dewormer to use for your horse!
A few signs your horse may need to be dewormed are:
•Weight loss
•Muscle wasting
•Diarrhea
•Colic
***Pregnant mares should be dewormed no later than 2 weeks prior to foaling. After foaling, they should be dewormed again with Ivermectin within 12 hours!***

A reminder to everyone that we offer ✨Gastroscopy!✨
Gastroscopy is a good way to see if your horse is suffering from ulcers and inflammation inside their oesophagus and stomach 🤓
The video above ⬆️ shows a horse whose condition was lacking and appetite had decreased. You can see the horse was suffering from some pretty bad ulcers. We can get this horse started on a treatment plan and get him back to feeling better! 👨🏻⚕️👩🏼⚕️
