Anxious dog owners need to know this!!

Generally anxious or sensitive dogs are the most impacted by location changes.

If you travel a lot with your dog or where you are going is a familiar place, this may not be a concern for you.

If you are travelling to an unfamiliar environment, keep in mind that your dog may be a little on edge as well.

Stay tuned for the next 11 Days and set yourself and your dog up for an easy breezy Christmas!

Management tools like these prevent our dogs from doing things like jumping all over guests, biting guests or eating the freshly cooked Turkey off the counter!

These may not necessarily be used for very long, but having at least two of these options handy to you, will make things way less stressful for both you and your dog.

Why is Management important?

Because it simply takes one less task off your list. Christmas is busy enough as it is, worrying about your dog sneaking into the kitchen when nobody is looking should not be something to fret about!

Please ensure that your dog is familiar with whichever Management tools you will be utilizing prior to Christmas.

If you have a management tool that you would like to use over Christmas but your dog is not familiar with it yet, reach out and I can provide some tips!

Make sure you are ready for Christmas! Follow so you don’t miss these 🔥 tips! 🐶🎅

Being a guardian of a reactive dog can be exhausting.

Focus on being kind and helpful to reactive dog guardians by following the above tips.

We know that barking/lunging is not a socially acceptable way for dogs to regularly behave, we don’t need a random person scoffing or being impolite. 🤦🏾‍♀️

Be a good neighbour and help your reactive dogs in the neighbourhood. Believe it or not, doing so will actually help the dog’s behaviour improve!

Play your part and be kind and courteous of others.

Reactive dog guardians, what other ways can people show kindness and compassion to you and your reactive dog?

A great morning with Sophie from Partner in Paws Training. Thanks to everyone who showed up for our event on Saturday. Both dogs and handlers learned a few tricks on how to make a visit to the vet less stressful.

There were plenty of treats for everyone, and congratulations to Angela, who won the door prize!

Happy National to my number one partner.

It’s crazy to think that after overcoming her own concerns with reactivity, she is now helping my clients do the same.

The connection that you have with your is unspeakable. Often we are able to communicate without words.

I can only hope that we have many more healthy years together.

Cheers to all our sweet sweet black dogs out there 🥂 🐾

I have a dog tolerant and dog selective dog. What type of sociability is your dog?

DON’T FORCE ME TO BE SOCIAL!
It may be really disappointing and frustrating when our dogs are not the social beings we expected them to be.

Many believe dogs should just naturally get along with other dogs, after all they’re the same species.

Some believe the “unsociable” dog has a behaviour problem that needs to be “fixed”.

Early, appropriately timed and correct socialisation is vitally important, but sometimes despite all of this, some dogs are just not that sociable.

Sometimes this can be improved, especially if the cause is from a negative experience, but genetics, breed tendencies, individual personalities, health and age all contribute to tolerance and sociability, which also change throughout life.

If we, as a human species, don’t get along with everyone we meet, how can we expect our dogs to?

Do we label every person that has an argument, doesn’t make friends with everyone they meet, doesn’t like every other person, prefers not to socialise - as having a problem that needs to be fixed?

Why is it so easy to accept that every individual person is different than to accept that every individual dog is different?

When we have done what we can to improve our dogs’ social skills, we need to accept and acknowledge our dogs for the individuals they are, allow and respect their choice of whether to be sociable or not and never force interactions that a dog is not comfortable with.

📣 Share this with ALL your dog mom friends!

Start preparing them for the Canada Day or 4th of July Weekend 💥

1️⃣ Desensitization - Ideally, we want our dogs to pay very little mind to the boom boom sounds in the sky. De-sensitizing them by playing firework sounds at low volumes will help them become accustomed.

💥Tip, give them something to lick or chew whilst listening to the cracks to encourage good feelings.

2️⃣ There are many natural remedies to ease stress for our dogs.

💥Each dog is different, so it’s trial and error is required but natural calming supports are always a great option!

3️⃣ Dogs that are outside often get spooked and run at the sound of fireworks. When a dog is in a panic, they will jump high fences that typically would keep them secure.

💥Make sure your dog is inside your house. Even if your dog is not afraid of fireworks, it only takes one poor experience to trigger a noise phobia.

⭐️Note, if your dog is panting incessantly, shaking, hiding, unable to recover after the loud booms are finished- CONSULT YOUR VET.

💊 Medications can be super helpful for dogs that panic during fireworks or thunderstorms

Enjoy your holiday, knowing that your dog safe and as comfortable as possible!

Well, after years of documenting 300+ hours of working with dogs and their humans; I finally got to sit for my Certified Profession Dog Trainer Exam last month.

This test challenged my knowledge related to the following topics:
Applied Learning Theory
Canine Behaviour, Ethology and Well-Being
Professional Skills, Ethics and Laws
Instructional and Teaching Skills

Due to the lack of an elected governing body, The importance of finding a professional with accreditations and certifications in the dog training field is crucial.

Not only do accreditations display knowledge within the field, they also hold trainers to a different standard of ethics.

In order to continue holding this designation, I must complete a certain amount of learning hours to continue my growth as a trainer. - which will help me bring more success for my clients because I have more tools in my tool box!

My hard work has finally paid off and I wanted to share my new achievement!
