Goal: $285/$5000 raised

We’re in need of donations, the last month has been an expensive one for us, and we have more large expenses upcoming over the next few weeks.

These funds are typically the hardest to raise. We don’t have a medical crisis on the go, there isn’t an urgent intake unfolding minute by minute, it’s just “regular ‘ol rescue” costs. But that’s exactly why we need your support, it takes being able to maintain the little things monthly, so that when the big things do come, we’re able to continue taking them on.

We’re hoping to raise $5000 by the end of September to help with breaking even on these costs.

Ways to donate:

Venmo: snarlrescue
Cashapp: $snarlrescue
E-transfer: [email protected]
Credit card: via the link in our bio

Thank you SNARL Village. It’s going to take a big push to reach this, but it’s necessary and I have faith. We’ll keep this post updates with the total raised as we get closer to our goal.

ADOPTED - NACHO 🐾❤️

We are so happy to share that Nacho’s big smile and adorable personality found him the best home! This sweet boy is headed up to Canada tomorrow, where he will be so loved. He has been such a fun pup to have around and his bambi kicks will definitely be missed!

Today is National Pet Carbon Monoxide Safety Day. Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas that can be fatal to both humans and animals. Pets, being smaller and spending more time close to the ground, may be more susceptible to CO poisoning. Ensuring your home is safe from carbon monoxide is crucial to the well-being of your pets.

🐾 Install Carbon Monoxide Detectors: Place detectors throughout your home, especially near areas where your pets sleep and spend most of their time. Test the detectors regularly and replace the batteries at least once a year.

🐾 Ventilate Gas Appliances Properly: Ensure that gas-powered appliances like stoves, heaters, and water heaters are well-ventilated. Regularly inspect and maintain these appliances to prevent CO buildup.

🐾 Never Leave Pets in Running Vehicles: Cars produce carbon monoxide, especially when idling in enclosed spaces. Avoid leaving your pet in a running vehicle, as even a brief exposure can be harmful.

🐾 Know the Signs of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning: Symptoms of CO poisoning in pets include lethargy, difficulty breathing, vomiting, and sudden collapse. If your pet shows any of these signs, get them into fresh air immediately and contact your vet.

It’s a rainy Sunday afternoon here in West Memphis, and Nacho immediately volunteered to join in on movie watching. He gets an A+ for his croissant impression, curled up on the couch. The sweetest little dude!

FLETCHER - ADOPTABLE ❤️🐾

The time has come for our house hippo Fletcher to find his own perfect home. This boy is an absolute dream, a unicorn dog, and brings so much joy and lightheartedness everywhere he goes. He is estimated to be 2 years old, is medium sized (38lb), and smiles with his whole body.

Five things you should know about Fletcher:
❤️ When you praise him, his tail goes from wagging to a full on windmill
🩷 He is excellent with other animals and greets new dogs neutrally
💛 He knows what Netflix is, and that there are snacks. He will take a bully stick, please, and preferably the left side of the bed.
💚 He is one of only a VERY small number of SNARL dogs who have been given free-roaming privileges in the house. A+ behaviour overnight and while home alone during work days.
🩵Watching him eat is comical. He doesn’t eat particularly quickly, but when he does take bites, he believes his mouth should stretch across the bowl to fit in as many kibbles as possible. Vet staff once called him an “enthusiastic eater”. We cackled.

Fletcher is genuinely one of the most incredible dogs I will likely know in my lifetime. His family is going to be so, so lucky to have him.

Applications are currently being accepted across US/Canada. Fletcher is being fostered in West Memphis, AR.

NACHO - ADOPTABLE! 🐾🧡

This smiley one year old guy is officially looking for a forever home! Nacho is an incredibly “easy” dog, who loves people, dogs and cats alike. He is crate trained, house trained, and fully vetted, weighing 35lb fully grown.

Five things you should know about Nacho:

💜 Nacho adores hugs. He comes up to you a few times a day looking for one, and will snuggle up to you as close as he can.
💛 Nacho smiles BIG and has learned the saying “Nacho, cheese!” and gets the fastest tail wags
💙 He loves to play “chase” outside with his dog friends
💚 Stuffed toys are his absolute favourite and he shakes them around and tosses them in the air to play “catch” with himself
❤️ On the “soft or hard cookie” debate, Nacho is team soft

This sweet guy was suspected to have been hit by a car in May of this year. His femur fracture has completely healed, and he’s back up on his feet running and playing once again. He has a signature “Bambi hop”, and enjoys a good ‘boost’ into the car, but otherwise is just like all of his buds!

Nacho’s forever family can work in or out of the home, he’s happy to wait while you go to work. He is also a candidate for a condo or home, as he gets a A+ on the quiet scale.

Nacho is adoptable anywhere in CAN/US, and he is currently located in West Memphis, AR. Visit the link below to apply to make this guy a part of your home ❤️

NACHO - BIG UPDATE 💖

Nacho had his big vetting day yesterday, and WOW! He continues to surprise us. His mobility is significantly better than we anticipated it to be. He walks, runs, plays, wrestles with his buds, you name it. The only thing he really ‘can’t’ do, is jump, so he stands there and patiently gives you that “hey service human, I need ya!” look for a boost getting into the car. Easy peasy. Other than that, he does all the things, just with a little razzle dazzle in his step.

His femoral fracture is old, and completely healed. It evidently received no intervention when it initially occurred, which means that his right leg is now ever so slightly shorter than his left. We think it adds to his charm!

So. Where we thought he was going to possibly need a orthopaedic consult? Nope! Perfectly healed on it’s own, with a great looking hip joint.

Bloodwork? Looks great! Neuter? Went off without a hitch!

His neurological symptoms? Is he a wheelchair candidate like we had initially thought before his arrival? Heck no! This dude is running donuts around me as we speak. He flings his back legs out with a “kachow” as he runs, which doesn’t slow him down a hair. It’s quite comical!

He has recovered so well, that the best thing for him is going to be letting him be a dog, enjoying life and playing! With his fracture healed, he has zero activity restrictions and he has shown clearly that he has no hesitation to use all four of his limbs whatsoever.

Typically when it comes to medical surprises, which we are no strangers to, we see dogs end up needing MORE interventions, or have additional diagnoses. Nacho decided to play the UNO reverse card on us with a wagging tail, and it’s a welcome surprise!

So, with all that said, Nacho will be completing the remainder of his mandatory intake hold with us so that we can learn more about his adorable personality (so far we know he LOVES people, other dogs, cozy beds and toys that squeak), and then he will be adoptable!

Nacho really said “cheese” and put a big smile on all of our faces. The best news 💖

GOOD NEWS - FLETCHER ❤️

We are sitting here smiling at the good news, basking in how surreal it is that we’re here.

Fletcher received his second (and final!) heartworm treatment five days ago, and he is doing fantastic. His body is having a MUCH easier time with this round compared to the first, and if we would let him, he’d be running around playing!

You all know just how deeply I love this dog. I firmly believe that our paths were meant to cross that day that I found him by the railroad tracks. He fought harder than ever to stay alive through his hospital admission and beat every single medical odd that was thrown at him. He has the most gentle, unicorn, easygoing personality, and he will be one of the most incredible dogs I’ve ever known, for life.

So, the best news (and I can’t believe that I get to say this…) adoption applications for Fletcher will be opening soon. ❤️

If you are serious about adding this boy to your family, Expressions of Interest can be emailed to our team via [email protected]

Infinitely proud of you Fletchy. This whole community has cheered you on, and you’re almost there 💖

Today is intake day and we have a very special new addition to the SNARL crew to introduce you to…Nacho!!

Nacho is a trauma case who has come to us as a shelter transfer from Mississippi. He was originally surrender to shelter by his family after “waking up paralyzed” one day. Swipe to see his x-rays from back in June, which show a massive femoral fracture.

We will never know exactly what happened to Nacho, but we do know that he has been fighting hard to recover. We will be providing him a physical therapy intensive while in care with us, but he has already made massive strides in his recovery.

Nacho will be headed to the vet on Wednesday for up to date radiographs, neuter surgery, and to have some additional testing done. We have set a $2000 fundraising goal to help cover his vetting and therapy needs.

BEA - ADOPT ME! 🐝♥️

Gentle, kind, and with a secret love for belly rubs, Bea has stolen the hearts of our team and is looking for a forever home. This 6 year old greets us with a wagging tail every morning before trotting to her yard to play with her friends. If a dog could be full of sunshine, that would be sweet little Bea.

Bea is suspected to have been born on the streets. Now, Bea wasn’t made for the streets. She was made for safe, comfy couches, kind people, and is now learning that the world doesn’t have to be so scary after all.

With her tender personality, she opts to cower when strangers are near, but runs up for love from those she knows and adores. She is easygoing, clean, has excellent leash skills, thrives on a basic routine, blossoms when around other dogs to boost her confidence, and is an all around total cutie patootie!

Bea’s ideal home is one that will love her dearly and continue to instil confidence in her. Going for walks and praising her for passing “new” things, giving her her very own comfy spot on the couch (which she LOVES), speaking kindly to her, and loving her deeply the way that we do, will have her opening up and giving you all of her affection. She’s extremely easy and enjoyable to be around.

Her ideal fit would have a fenced yard for her to enjoy, and another dog in the home to be her new best friend. She is a great fit for someone who prefers to hang out at home most of the time, but also enjoys having a dog to get them out of the house.

Applications for Bea are accepted anywhere in CAN/US. She is currently located in West Memphis.

WRIGLEY - ADOPTABLE 🐾

This adorable wiggly bundle of love is officially ready to find his own family to wiggle his way into! He has an easy-going, affectionate little guy who wants nothing more than to spend his time hanging out with you, or better yet, in your lap!

Wrigley is a five month old Papillion mix who came into SNARL cares as an emergency intake showing neurological symptoms (his signature wiggles) since birth, but also had the complications of a bite on the top of his head by his mom.

Since his arrival, Wrigley has completed full vetting, including a spinal tap, MRI, bile acid tests and bloodwork panels, which has determined he has a white matter disorder. All that is left is to find him his perfect forever!

Wrigley is one of the happiest little guys who is easy to please. He gets along with everyone he meets, dogs, cats and kids included! He doesn’t mind hanging out at home alone while you’re at work, and then will join you for a snuggle on the couch, hang out in the yard, or whatever else you’d like to do. He is the happiest when being held, so he makes the perfect boy for someone looking for companion to spend their days with.

Click the link below to to apply to make Wrigley a part of your family! He is being fostered in West Memphis, Arkansas. Adoption applications for him are being accepted across Canada and the USA 🐾

CANNOLI - ADOPTED! 🐾❤️

It’s official, Cannoli has a forever home!! With one of the most incredible families out there, I can’t tell you how hard she landed the goldmine of adopters.

Her family had a chance to meet her in person for the first time last week, and tomorrow, they fly back into Denver to pick her up for good!

She has come SO far since her entry into care, it’s wild to think that she was once fully paralyzed and is now sprinting around the yard and standing up on her back legs. She is such a wonderful rehabilitation success story and the core of why we do what we do.

Congratulations Cannoli girl, we are going to miss the heck out of your cute meatball self! 🐾❤️

WRIGLEY - MEDICAL UPDATE ✨

It has been a busy couple of weeks for our wiggly Wrigley! The quick summary for those who prefer snapshot updates: MRI showed less white matter than expected in areas of his brain. Lots of additional testing done to try to figure out the root cause, all negative/normal.

The longer version, for those who enjoy the full medical side of things: Neurology workup completed at MSU had a clear spinal tap, MRI showed bilaterally symmetrical areas of reduced white matter. Neurologist agreed that this is likely the culprit for his tremor, and not the previously positive distemper results that he had. It was queried by the neurologist if the original family could have potentially vaccinated him extremely young to try to “cure” him of his tremor, but this is something we will never for sure know.

So - at this point, we started to seek the cause for the reduction in white matter. Bloodwork was normal, lysosomal storage disease panel was negative, bile acids test (to rule out comorbid hepatic encephalopathy) was also normal. The thought is that our little Wrigs likely has something genetic that’s very rare and unlikely for us to get a more specific “name” for. His best diagnosis is considered just to be white matter disorder.

Genetics are so vast (and so funky!) and this is all part of the process of attempting to diagnose these ‘trail mix’ little pups. So with a limited diagnosis, do we know exactly what to expect from Wrigley’s life? Nope! Not entirely. But what we do know is that we have a happy, little bouncy guy, and we’re sure that there’s the most perfect family out there for him that will love him exactly as he is!

Wrigs has officially been cleared for the last step of his vetting - his neuter tomorrow, and then? It’ll be time to find this sweet boy a home 🐾

Stay tuned for his bio to go up on our website, or if you’re really keen, you can send in an application ahead of time! ❤️

HE’S HOME 💗

Fletcher was discharged home from the hospital this morning, and we are both equally stunned and incredibly grateful.

To say that he got close to the line is an absolute understatement. Multiple life-saving measures were used in hospital over the past few days to support his little body as he survived a pulmonary embolism.

Yet he’s here…and he has his sparkle back 🥹❤️

His PVC increased to 30% this morning, and he continues to have endless tail wags, a healthy appetite, and lots of requests for love. The vet staff commented on how stark of a positive difference they saw in him today - and how much they love his little trot!

The plan is to continue on with heartworm treatment as planned. Please keep your fingers crossed for a smooth course of treatment going forward.

Also - thank you. To every one of you who has fallen in love with this little guy, sent messages of support, donated, and been cheering him on to survive. He truly had the SNARL Village behind him 100%.

We love you guys ❤️

PS - If your dog is not already on heartworm protection, please, please put them on it. Everything Fletcher has gone through has been completely preventable, and we’d love to see another dog saved from having to experience it.

PPS - We’ve gotten some inquiries about adoption for this sweet boy. He remains on medical hold, but if you are seriously interested and would like to be considered when the time comes, please do fill out a general application via our website.

FLETCHER - UPDATE PART 3

*photo is from last week - I wish this is what our bubba looked like today!

After his blood transfusion, Fletcher was a new dog. The tone of the discussions with the vet staff changed dramatically, and everyone (Fletcher included) was able to breath easier.

I called Sam and Sarah… “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but he might actually do the damn thing you guys”.

Then tonight I got the call.

“We have a game plan. He has maintained perfect sats on room air all day. He was tossing his bowl around. We are weaning his heavy steroids and we are going to re-start his doxycycline to ensure he can handle it, to start preparing for discharge.

“DISCHARGE?! When?”

“We’ll see how he does overnight. We may play it conservative and monitor for one more night, but if he keeps up how he’s going, he may be ready to come home tomorrow”.

I shook my head in disbelief when I got off the phone. Discharge. We’re talking about discharge. Home. Alive. After a pulmonary embolism.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s update, and please cross your fingers, toes, and paws, that tonight goes well.

We have got one hell of a fighter. Holy smokes y’all.

FLETCHER - UPDATE PART 2

“The odds are stacked against him”
“I know”
“It would be reasonable to euthanize”
“I know”

We decided to do an echocardiogram to rule in/out Caval syndrome. If it was, we knew that we had to let him go. If it wasn’t, we’d revisit.

“It’s not Caval syndrome! I thought I’d call to share the good news”

Deep breath. Okay. So what is it then?

We were able to have the ER vet consult on his case with a cardiologist from MSU and it was determined that Fletcher had a pulmonary embolism as a complication from his doxycycline. The result was a life threatening pulmonary hemorrhage.

This was complicated even further, because Fletcher’s bloodwork showed severe anemia. Take an already anemic dog, and have them lose a massive amount of blood rapidly, and you have a very big problem. The kind that looks like a HR of 40 and unresponsive pup laying on the ground.

It’s presumed that his anemia is due to him having had an extremely high worm load prior to coming into care. He underwent 5 days of routine dewormer with us, and was started on more today in the hospital to ensure he is completely cleared of them.

They did a blood transfusion. His PCV was 20%, and increased to 25% after the transfusion. Fletcher perked up dramatically. He scarfed a bowl of food, starting laying on the charm to staff and was up and alert once again.

FLETCHER - UPDATE PART 1

It has been a long, rollercoaster of a day for our sweet Fletch. We had to coordinate the transfer of his care to a different animal hospital (our third one this admission) first thing this morning, as the hospital he spent the weekend at closed at 8am. They are only open overnight and on weekends.

Fletch failed his trial to get off of oxygen yesterday due to increased work of breathing, so he remained on 40% overnight. We knew we needed to transfer to another hospital with an oxygen chamber.

Fletch was loaded into my SUV, with a portable oxygen tank and mask on, and we beelined it for the next hospital.

I told him he was a good boy about a hundred times during that 15 minutes, that I loved him and that we were all so proud of him for fighting to stay alive overnight. He was incredibly out of it, and was looking through me rather than at me.

We got to MVS where he was immediately taken back, and his heart rate dropped from 70 to 40. He was laid out on his side, unresponsive. Atropine was immediately administered and he stabilized.

They then came into the room to get some information from me and said “well…you have an incredibly sick boy, but, he’s satting 100% on room air right now”.

The look of bewilderment on my face. His heart rate is quickly tanking, he’s unresponsive, but out of nowhere he’s handling being on room air?! Classic rescue curveball, how you least expect it, when you least expect it. The vet and I both chuckled, finding the glimmers of humour amongst the criticalness the his situation.

We had a realistic, very frank discussion. Fletcher’s presentation declined significantly in the first 20 minutes that he was there and they queried a stroke. The other differential diagnosis on the table was Caval syndrome, which is fatal within hours to days.

ANGEL DONOR - FLETCHER 😭❤️

An angel donor has stepped forward to cover the remaining amount of Fletcher’s hospital stay in it’s entirety, inclusive of any costs going forward.

To say we’re both equally shocked and thankful is the biggest understatement.

The donations has been made in the names of four animal lovers, Goldie, Junie, Scarlett and Clementine. Their dedication has inspired this incredible gift to Fletcher, who will now have his best chance at survival thanks to their passion for animals.

To our donor and those who inspired it, thank you so very much. We are so, so grateful.

Please leave a comment of gratitude so that we can share our community wide thanks! ❤️
