Hi Fur-iends!

Mr Guinness came to emerg today after deciding to eat a tub of Vaseline. He wanted to pass along a message to all his furry friends letting them know that consuming Vaseline will indeed leave you having to wear a diaper and have random strangers keep checking your back end 🙃 He is on the mend and we appreciate him wanting to help warm his buddies so this doesn’t happen to them.

Meet Dr. Jacqueline Fulford! She has been with us for almost 2 years and comes with a background in general practice and emergency medicine. Dr. Jacqui brings her kindness and compassion to every family and often manages our hospitalized patients.

Dr. Jacqui’s most interesting procedure was a sneaky labradoodle who swallowed a 12 inch BBQ skewer and it punctured through the stomach, liver, diaphragm and lung! Thankfully the pup recovered great!

Favourite part of emergency medicine? The variety of cases!

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? A dentist.

Cat person or dog person? Dr. Jacqui is a cat person but loves dogs too!

Dr. Jacqui’s advice to someone about joining emergency medicine - Try to focus on celebrating the good outcomes, value your days off and maintain a work/life balance.

When not at work Dr. Jacqui enjoys travelling, gardening, camping and playing piano!

Next up we have Dr. Peyton Williams-Ware!

Dr. Peyton has been a veterinarian for just shy of 5 years now, pursuing her dream that she has had since she was a young child. Yep thats right, she has always wanted to be a vet! Dr. Peyton has been with our hospital for 2 years now and she has gotten to be a part of so many procedures including alot of firsts for her in her career as well.

She describes that her favorite procedure to perform is a classic cat unblock for a urinary obstruction. Dr. Peyton however has some other honorable mentions like pericardiocentisis, perineal urethrostomy and intestinal surgeries. Variety is the spice of life!

Dr. Peyton shares that like many others, she feels emergency medicine, especially in a busy ER, breaks up your day with something new almost everyday, which not only keeps things interesting but helps to broaden her knowledge and help her further her skills with each coming patient.

While she is a lover of all animals, even cattle, she does have a special spot in her heart reserved for the feline department. She will never admit that her kitties are her favorites, and we definitely won't spill the beans to her dogs!

Although a newer vet, she did have great advice when we asked her what she would tell someone wanting to become a veterinarian. "Be patient with yourself and give yourself lots of grace, and to always remember that it is okay to not know everything on your first day! It's a career where you will never stop learning."

In her spare time you can find Dr. Peyton enjoying anything outdoors. However she has a special love for kayaking and DIY home renovations. How fun!

Dr. Hilary Rondot!

While she is a newer member to our team she has proven she fits in our ER like a glove!

Dr. Rondot has been practicing as a vet for almost 8 years! She always knew in her heart that she wanted to be a veterinarian! Although she did contemplate different careers earlier on such as engineering and even being an artist!

A lover of all animals Dr. Rondot not only has a soft spot for dogs and cats but she is also a huge fan of birds and bunnies! She has enough love to go around for all of them!

In 8 years she experienced many fascinating procedures but one of her most notable is she witnessed a removal of the pericardial sac to treat chylothorax in a dog! How neat!

If she could give any aspiring vets any advice it would always remember to do your best and sometimes that's all you can do! Burnout in this industry is real and some situations are just really hard and to remember to give people the benefit of the doubt!

Roll call! Next on our list of veterinarians we want you to get to know is Dr. Jessie Wilkins!

Dr. Wilkins has been a veterinarian for nine years! Nine whole years of her living out her childhood dream of doing just that being a vet! She loves all animals deeply however if they were in a race we are told dogs would win by the smallest margin!

Dr. Wilkins works not only in general practice but in our ER as well and is involved with the internal medicine service! She loves that each day is something new, exciting or strange to learn! It's truly a place she feels she will never get bored!

While her 9 years of experience have brought many intriguing procedures her favorite was watching a surgery on a dog that had a sinus blockage! Turns out it was a mucous plug! ( one of the biggest boogers you may ever see!)

When we asked Dr. Wilkins what her biggest piece of advice would be for someone coming into the land of emergency medicine she said to make sure you take the time to get lots of experience in as many settings as possible and make sure you are always willing to learn and make sure you listen to your clients!

When she isn't in the hospital you can find Jessie baking, indulging with some coffee and snacks or walking her dogs!

Next on "Get to know our doctors" is Dr. Michelle Thompson! Michelle has been a veterinarian for just over 4 years! Prior to becoming a veterinarian Michelle was an Engineer for 6 years but quickly realized her passion was helping animals and quickly switched up her goals.

Dr. Thompsons favorite part about working in the ER is the excitement of not knowing what your day will bring as each day is so different and no case is the same as the one previously!

If you were to ask Dr. Thompson what her favorite animal is she would tell you she loves them all the same however Cows actually hold a dear spot in her heart! Can't blame her they are adorable!

In her career in the last 4 years she has seen and performed many procedures but she describes her favorite procedure to perform as being a blood pleurodesis to treat pneumothorax. She adds that this is not a difficult procedure but rather one that is extremely interesting!

If she were to give any advice for anyone wanting to join the industry especially ER it would be ;

Be prepared for a fun ride! It can be physically and mentally demanding yet the job is so rewarding. It is important to remain calm under pressure and make sure you are efficient in collecting all the information you need to help your diagnosis!

🐾💕Get to know our veterinarians! Over the next few weeks you will all the get opportunity to get to know our veterinarians that make everyday at our hospital possible! 💕🐾

Starting this segment off is Dr. Heather Suttie! Not only is she one of the owners of our hospital but she also specializes in our reproduction department and ontop of all that works our ER!

Dr. Suttie has been a veterinarian for 12 years! She has always wanted to be a veterinarian even growing up! If you ask her if she is a cat or a dog person her little pug turbo is an easy giveaway to her answer! Dogs!

One of Dr Sutties favorite things about emergency medicine is its unpredictability and the different challenges each day can bring!

In her 12 years as a vet she has been a part of many amazing procedures but she describes the most interesting as being able to perform a Persistent right aortic arch on a golden retriever!

In her free time Dr. Suttie can be found trail running through our mountains!

When asked what advice she would give to anyone wanting to join emergency animal medicine she said : " make sure you enjoy the process, do what you can and make sure you take the wins when they come".

Pictured below is Dr.Suttie working in Alaska ensuring the Iditarod sled dogs were all tip top shape to race!

The last three years every Christmas our hospital has committed to helping provide seniors with the joy of Christmas! 😺While in clinic with us our furry feline friend Milo took it upon himself to personally inspect our Christmas decorations! We are happy to report he gave us 5/5 Toe beans and a meow of approval! We just can't get enough of this handsome fella!💕🐾

Coming into what is a long weekend for most we know it's scary when your pet has a medical concern and your regular vet isn't open🐾💕

Don't forget, we are open 24hrs a day 365 days a year. We are happy to help treat your furry friends. Just remember much like a human ER we do see animals based on triage. What does this mean? It means the most critical and life threatening cases get seen first and wait times will apply.

Not sure if it is an emergency?? 🤔Call our front desk and our lovely team of Receptionists will be happy to help you navigate the situation! 403-233-2888 🐾💕

Stay safe and warm this weekend! 🐾🧤
