The final countdown is on! In 3 short months 30 veterinary students, 30 technician students and many volunteer technicians and veterinarians will be at Burwash Equine Services for the 2nd annual Spotlight : Equine Vet Practice in Canada. This is an amazing event and 100% volunteer organized and ran, and we are actively looking for sponsorship to make this the best year yet.

Hello future colleagues!
The Thoroughbred Makeover presented by the Retired Racehorse Project will be held in October 2024 in Lexington, KY at The Kentucky Horse Park. Veterinary students are invited to participate on the Arrival Examination Team. Students participating on the team will receive educational seminars, training in physical exams, body condition scoring, and soundness observations, and will help a team of veterinarians examine >375 Thoroughbreds in 2 days. There will be considerable hands-on learning opportunities. This event has been well received every year by the veterinarian students who attend. This year we are selecting the team early to help with scheduling and fundraising. Participants must be attending a veterinary school at the time of the arrival exam. The RRP team takes great pride in being inclusive of students from various backgrounds and experience levels with the only requirement being a desire to learn about equine veterinary medicine. In addition to participating in the Arrival Exam Veterinary Team, students receive educational events in managing retired racehorses, show biosecurity, and much more. The organization also organizes trips to area equine hospitals, discussions with current equine practitioners and interns, as well as a trip to Keeneland Racetrack to watch the early morning works and speak with the racetrack veterinarians.

Students will need to travel to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY on Sunday October 6th and stay through Tuesday October 8th at 5:00 PM. Meals are provided. Travel and lodging are not provided currently. Filling out this survey indicates a STRONG interest in attending but not a final commitment. Students that are accepted will receive guidance on possible fundraising opportunities to help defray the cost associated with attendance.
30 students will be chosen from the initial pool, based on random selection from the group of strongly interested. Students will be notified of initial selection on May 20th. Students selected are guaranteed a spot. Final commitment to attend will be requested from the students on or before August 20th after students have finalize schedules etc.
Letters can be provided to schools for absences upon request. Examinations can be proctored on site by a board specialized veterinarian if requested by schools. Boarded specialists and experienced practitioners in veterinary medicine will lead the teams of veterinary interns and students.
