Kitten Teeth: Tiny to Tough! Did you know a kitten’s teeth go through a big transformation in just a few months?

At 3 weeks old, kittens start getting their baby teeth—tiny, needle-sharp, and perfect for nursing and exploring solid food.

By 5 months old, those baby teeth start falling out, making way for adult teeth! This is when teething happens—cue the extra chewing on anything they can get their paws on!

If you notice excessive drooling, chewing, or even finding tiny teeth around the house, don’t worry—it’s all part of growing up!

Drop a photo of your teething kittens in the comments! We’d love to see those adorable little chompers!

Did you know February is Beat the Heat Month, and today is World Spay Day? Spaying is one of the most important things you can do for your female pet’s health and wellbeing. With spring around the corner, now is the perfect time to spay before “kitten and puppy season” begins!

Why Spay your pet?
- Prevents Unwanted Litters – A single unspayed cat and her offspring can produce thousands of kittens in just a few years. Shelters and rescues are overwhelmed every spring with litters needing homes.
- Protects Against Cancer & Infections – Spaying eliminates the risk of life-threatening uterine infections (pyometra) and drastically reduces the risk of mammary cancer.
- Stops Heat Cycles – No more yowling, restless behavior, or attracting unwanted attention from male animals.
- Saves You Money – In Calgary, city licensing fees are lower for spayed pets!

Spaying your pet means a healthier, happier pet and helps reduce pet overpopulation in our community. If your furry friend isn’t spayed yet, call us to book an appointment!

Meet Mooch! This cutie waited ever so patiently for his sedated grooming appointment. We can’t tell if he was excited for the spa day or just mentally preparing for the adventure ahead. Either way, he’s the cutest little patient!

Regular vet check-ups aren’t just for when pets are sick—they often help catch health issues early, prevent disease, and improve overall well-being. Here’s why preventive care matters:

Early Detection – Regular exams and lab work help to spot illnesses like cancer or diabetes before they become serious.
Disease Prevention – Vaccines protect pets (and their furry friends) from contagious illnesses.
Healthy Habits – Vets offer advice on nutrition, exercise, and dental care.
Save Money – Treating health issues early is often far less costly than waiting!
Better Quality of Life – Healthy pets = happy, longer lives.

Don’t wait for symptoms—book your pet’s wellness exam today!

This little guy went through a lot.

A young Australian shepherd puppy was brought to VCA Canada Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital after an accident where hot water was spilled, resulting in 3rd degree burns over 30% of his body.

His burn wounds were so severe that he also ended up with some kidney issues and needed to be hospitalized. So, he was surrendered to the Victoria Humane Society for ongoing care.

Thanks to our amazing program, the incredible team at the humane society, and the support of the community coming together to fundraise, he was given a second chance at life!

He’s since made a great recovery, but he’ll live with chronic kidney issues, some scars, and parts of his skin will be hairless. So, get ready for some sunscreen, lotion, and maybe even a few stylish outfits in his very bright future! 💙🐾

Did you know that in is similar to in humans? It's a common problem, but it’s also preventable.

Periodontal Disease always starts with inflammation of the gums, also known as , and it is the only truly reversable stage. Left alone however, the bacteria in the mouth will mix with food and saliva and form a sticky layer called plaque. If the plaque then isn’t removed, it turns into tartar (a hard, yellow-brown substance) that can then damage the teeth. 😬

Once tartar has formed, professional scaling and polishing under general anesthesia will be needed as it cannot easily be removed by diets and/or brushing.

But don’t worry—regular veterinary check-ups and dental cleanings can help prevent these issues!

Check out our tooth colour chart to see where your pet's oral health falls.

Happy Family Day! Today is all about spending time with loved ones—including our furry family members! These two have mastered the breakfast stare-down, hoping their human will share (pet-safe treats only, of course!).

Just a reminder that our clinics are closed today so our team can enjoy time with their families, too. We’ll be back to our regular hours tomorrow!
