🌟MEET THE TEAM🌟 We’re thrilled to introduce Katie, our newest veterinary assistant! Katie graduated from the CDI Veterinary Assistant program in 2023 and has been an absolute pleasure to work with since joining our team. Her compassion, dedication and love for animals shine through her work, making her a wonderful addition to our clinic.

Katie’s passion for animals started early, splitting her days growing up on a family ranch in Water Valley and in Calgary. She has always been drawn to caring for animals and making a difference in their lives. At home, she’s surrounded by her own companions—three cats (Milo, Midna and Sniffer) and two dogs (Roxy and Toby)—who keep her busy and entertained!

Outside of work, Katie enjoys spending time outdoors; whether it’s gardening, hiking or fishing. When she’s ready to unwind, you’ll likely find her curled up with a good book, snuggled up with her fur babies.

We know our clients and patients will love her just as much as we do! Join us in giving her a warm welcome! 🎉

Our awesome hydrotherapist, Naomi, brought her cat in for a fitness rehab session 🌊🐱 While we often see dogs making a splash in our water treadmill, cats can benefit too!

Hydrotherapy is a fantastic low-impact exercise that helps with:
🦴 Joint health & mobility
💪 Muscle strengthening
🏥 Post-surgery recovery
⚖️ Weight management

And yes—some cats do enjoy the water (especially with a little patience and encouragement)!

Did someone say new toy?! 🙀 Brisby, Kip and Dr. B are very excited to show you all our new ultrasound machine! This technology may not be new, but being able to upgrade older models allows us to continue to provide elevated care for our patients.

Ultrasounds offer a non invasive way to diagnose and/or monitor numerous conditions such as intestinal tract blockages, tumors, cardiac arrhythmias and pregnancies.

🌟 MEET THE TEAM 🌟 Naomi joined the Westland team as our new certified small animal Hydrotherapist! Since 2017, Naomi has been a holder of an extended diploma in animal management, turning her lifelong passion for animal care into a rewarding career. Originally from Swindon, England, Naomi moved to Canada in 2019, drawn by her love for adventure and the great outdoors. Since then, she’s proudly earned her permanent residency and citizenship. Outside of work, Naomi enjoys fishing and camping, always surrounded by nature. At home, she cares for her three cats: Sicily, a 15-year-old Devon Rex who benefits from swimming, underwater treadmill, and laser therapy; Mavis, a spirited 2-year-old tortoiseshell; and Jinx, a 6-year-old tuxedo cat. Naomi dreams of adding an Irish Wolfhound to her family once she has more space. Her journey into hydrotherapy and rehabilitation began in 2017, and she remains passionate about helping animals heal and thrive through these therapies.

As the spooky season is upon us, we want to make sure your furry family members stay safe and comfortable. Here are 4 tips to help keep Halloween fun and worry-free for your dogs and cats:

Keep the Treats Out of Paws’ Reach 🍫🍬
Chocolate, candy, and certain artificial sweeteners (like xylitol) are toxic to both dogs and cats. Make sure all sweet treats are kept safely away from curious noses and paws.

Costumes: Keep It Comfortable! 👻🌭
If you’re dressing up your dog or cat, ensure the costume fits well and doesn’t restrict movement, breathing, or vision. If they’re not into costumes, a festive bandana works just as well!

Doorbell Anxiety 🚪🔔
With all the trick-or-treaters, doorbells and knocking can cause stress. Set up a quiet, cozy space where your dog or cat can retreat to relax away from the excitement.

Watch the Decorations 🎃🕸️
Keep candles, string lights, and small decorations out of reach. Cats especially love to play with dangling items, and curious mouths could lead to accidents.
