From wrangling our technicians to wooing anxious patients - our TA is our secret superpower! We have treated 3 dogs this week for severely burnt paw pads from pavement. With summer temperatures, it is crucial to know how to keep your companions protected so they can enjoy the season with you. Here are some tips to keep your furry friend's paws safe:

☀️ Test the Pavement: Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for your companion!

☀️ Walk in the Early Morning or Late Evening: Pavement is cooler during these times, reducing the risk of burns.

☀️ Stick to Grass: When possible, walk your dog on grass or dirt paths instead of asphalt.

☀️ Paw Protection: Consider booties to protect those sensitive pads.

☀️ Stay Hydrated: Always bring water for your companion to keep them cool and hydrated.

🌟 MEET THE TEAM 🌟 Lacey, a dedicated and compassionate veterinary professional, brings a wealth of experience to our team, having previously worked in two small animal practices and a mixed small animal/exotic practice in Calgary. With a lifelong passion for animals and a keen interest in science, she naturally gravitated towards a career in veterinary medicine. Lacey is the proud owner of a diverse menagerie that includes four cats, a dog, a hamster, two chinchillas, and a horse. Outside of work, she enjoys spending quality time with her daughter and their horse, often found either at the barn or at home with her beloved companions. Raised in Calgary, Lacey is known for her strong work ethic, friendly demeanor, and excellent teamwork skills, making her a valuable addition to our clinic.

Freckles is a senior who has some anxiety visiting the vet, so we always make sure to take our time and provide options that help him get comfortable. Sometimes, a pre-visit pharmaceutical (PVP) is a great option to assist anxious animals. It can also be prescribed for situations like the groomers, thunderstorms or car rides. Ask our team about this option if your companion experiences anxiety.

Just like humans, dogs sometimes require this life-saving medical treatment. Dog blood donors have a high turnover rate and there are always patients in need.

Has your veterinarian team ever recommended oral sedation for your companion’s visits? Our goal is to make patients feel as comfortable as possible when they visit us. Pre-visit pharmaceuticals (PVP) can help alleviate anxiety associated with stressful environments, handling, strange people, etc. Stressful nail trims can create a negative association with vet clinics, making future appointments more difficult for your furry friend.
Ruby is demonstrating our goal for all vet visits. She received PVP before her nail trim & is allowing us to perform the procedure with minimal restraint, making this a stress free & safe visit for everyone!

A common myth about is that indoor companions don't need any form of identification. Some may believe that since their cat or dog lives indoors, there's no need for tags or microchips. However, indoor animals can still escape or become lost, especially during times of commotion like moving or renovations. Having proper identification, such as a collar with tags or a microchip with up-to-date information, is essential for all companions, regardless of whether they primarily stay indoors or venture outside. This ensures that if they do get lost, they have the best chance of being reunited with their human.

🌤Welcome to our March 2022 Newsletter 🌤 WOW! Big updates over here – We have officially moved into the new addition of the clinic! The staff is very happy to finally get into the space. Now comes the organizing, and then re-organizing and, you guessed it, more organizing! We are so excited to be able to share our new home with our clients and patients. Construction on the old side begins this week so we have a temporary front desk to greet you at. As we are still under construction, please note that we have limited space for our stock. This means that we have limited quantities on hand for food and medication. To ensure we have what your pet needs, please call ahead and allow at least 24 hours for food and medication orders. Our current COVID protocols are as follows: We kindly request client’s wear a mask while inside the clinic. Our locked front door policy is still in place. Please call the clinic from your vehicle upon your arrival. We are encouraging just one person in the clinic per appointment. Exceptions are considered for special circumstances.
