Gorgeous morning to get out and work Chai in the snow! We worked on lateral movement when I was on as well as lowering her head to begin framing. She did great! Looking forward to continuing to work on it as I got quite a bit of sass while she was figuring out what I was asking for 😂
Sally also did amazing as she's beginning to trot on Chai, so proud of this pair 💜

The girls came out of their shelters to the gate trying to look as sad as possible to come inside out of the rain this morning 💚 Rose did get to come inside and due to the rain we worked on behaving in the stall rather than working outside.

Rose saw the vet yesterday and we've confirmed her pregnancy! 🎉 She's due this spring and I'm super excited to work with the baby and train the basics with it until it's weaned and ready to sell 💚

On another note, her therapy training has been coming along amazing and she's set to be a therapy horse this summer at the farm, another adventure I'm looking forward to diving into. You'll see ads for the therapy sessions and camp likely in spring but are more than welcome to message and inquire now if it's something you'd be interested in.

Quick shot of today's polework!

Unfortunately it was very windy and snow kept blowing off of the roof of the arena prompting Lexi to not be focused for most of the ride and for the whole session today to be a mess. That being said, we did get to use this a few times and when we were going half decently, this was super fun! We will be doing it again next time in hopes for better weather for riding. That being said, today was great practise for desensitization in bad weather conditions and despite it being a horrible ride, I'm glad I made the decision to ride her today. It's something she has to get used to and be exposed to. Wind should not be a factor that turns you or your horse off of riding.

Holly's first ride back after having quite a bit of time off. Holly's had a problem with rearing and just acting like a bronc whenever you put leg on. She used to have ulcers in the past, however is over that now and still needs work on knowing that pressure on her sides isn't going to hurt. Today wasn't perfect at all, but we did make some progress and ended off on a good note where we were actually able to do a little trot as well as be walking around and doing poles without her stopping and either kicking or rearing with pressure to go forward from my legs.

Thank you Olivia for having me out to work with her! I'm looking forward to trying to find more time in my schedule to put more rides on her and get her back on track and safe to take on a co-boarder 😊

What does anxiety look like in horses?

Anxiety can rear it's head in many ways in the horse world. Rose here shows it through pawing, pacing, excessive pooping and with being pushy. These are all undesirable behaviours, however she doesn't show them when she's not anxious. Of course other horses can show them for other reasons or just because that's a behaviour they've picked up over time. But when I train these horses, the main thing you have to decipher is what exactly causes the anxiety and go from there and teach them that they're safe in that environment.

Rose is great in the barn on a nice day with the door open now that I've worked with her. Today it was windy and rainy so I shut the door and this is how she responded. All it needs is work in order for her to get comfortable with it and to teach her that she's still safe but I just wanted to show you guys as I've seen quite a few anxious horses, and owners who can't read it and think that they're just misbehaving for no reason. These behaviors can absolutely be fixed, however you have to go about training them differently than if they were just learned behaviors.

I'd just like to post an update on my bookings. I'm currently fully booked for the winter, a big thank you to every one of my amazing clients 💞 I am more than happy to take on a waiting list for the spring and summer as I know that's when everyone's looking to get their youngsters (or pasture puffs) started or given refreshers/restarts. I'm also more than happy to take on any problem horses then! Shoot me a pm to be placed on the waiting list as well as let me know around when you're looking to have a trainer out and we can make something work 😊

I also have emergency bookings open for those of you that need a trainer asap for any immediate issues. Weekdays are looking tough for fitting in emergencies, however weekends are a possibility.

It was a much busier morning than I wanted it to be but I got the pleasure of riding Riot out on the trails this morning alongside George and Ace which was definitely the highlight of my day 🖤

Riot's been acting dangerous for Linda when she's been trying to go out on the trails, trying to take off as well as spinning, backing up, etc. All issues that he displayed when I rode today, it felt like I was on a barrel horse waiting to shoot out of the gate lol. With patience we overcame them and had quite a nice trail ride where he was actually able to walk or trot nicely on a loose rein. He will likely need a couple more schooling sessions out there but progress was made today! I've sent Linda some homework while I'm not there and hopefully Riot will be trail riding nicely right off the bat alongside Ace shortly.

Video obviously from a bit ago haha, but a quick update on these girls. Rosie and Luna both got massage sessions today as the rain kept up inside. Was very happy to see the yawning and licking and chewing. These girls loved it!

Rose and I worked on stall etiquette today on top of our cross tie training and feet. Today was the first day I was able to safely pick up and pick out all four feet as well! It was a good day for progress with this gorgeous girl. She also stands much better for grooming but is still pawing quite a bit. Gaining a few percent each day!
