Ace was amazing today! We worked a lot on loping which isn't new to him but it's not overly practiced due to his owner's level. We'll have to work on keeping him straight in it. His reactions to half halts as well as staying straight on the rail in the walk/trot are much better now as well. This boy is such a pleasure to work with 🥰

Rosie saying hello this morning 😂 she loved the nice weather today! We worked on groundwork with both these girls today, Rosie and I worked on adding buttons on her sides to get her to move certain ways depending on where the pressure was. Luna and I worked on manners while leading as she has a tendancy to drag you down to graze. Both girls did amazing and there was lots of improvement today 🥰 Their owner is having a lesson on them next week!

Sally (Chai's amazing owner) has been taking a few lessons on Lexi in order to gain back some muscle and muscle memory for riding before getting back on Chai who's still very green. Today was a great schooling day for both as there was a thunderstorm going on and Lexi has a tendancy to just run anytime she hears the rain on the arena roof. Both girls did amazing! Sally is getting the hang of trotting again as well as learning half halts today which will be a strong tool for her with Chai 😊

Cuddle session with Lexi last week! I interrupted her morning nap to take her blanket off but she didn't mind the cuddles and massage I gave her while I waited until she was ready to get up 😊 It's always a good sign of your horse's trust in you when they stay laying down when you come up to them 💜

Congrats Melissa and Maggie! Maggie has finished out with me and has proven to be a nice trail horse now 😊 That being said I have a very limited opening spot for training once a week as the other two slots have already been taken. Shoot me a pm if you're looking for lessons or training! Fall is here, now is the time to get you and your horses prepared for next summer.

A big thank you to my grandma for tagging along with me to come see Lexi today 💜 All of the animals loved the extra attention. These are some of the lovely photos she captured today of our little doodle around. My original plan for Lexi today was to go for a rip in the hay field as a break from the arena and to have some fun, but we did tiny jumps and some canter work instead and tomorrow is now going to be our trail day!

Chai and Casino 🥰

Chai is now cantering/galloping under saddle confidently! We're working on her confidence in the first few strides of the trot as she tends to take a couple really fast strides before falling into a nice trot.

Casino is getting some fitness work in the canter. He's not a fan of being told what to do and doesn't quite have the fitness to hold it for very long!

Horse training isn't always fun, this past Monday, Maggie decided to test my skills haha. We're putting more miles on her out in the trails now that she's not super green anymore. I had an amazing session with her the previous week where we got over her fear of walking over the slab of rock in the one area as well as crossing water. However Monday she decided to bolt and not stop or turn. I had to bail off of her before she got back to the narrow trails where there were lots of trees and it became dangerous for both of us. She stopped the second I had gotten off and I hopped back on and rode back to where she'd taken off and rode back nicely.

Just yesterday though we had another amazing session and she went through the trails better than ever! Sometimes you need the scary moments and the schooling in order to bring the best out in these horses 😊 however, due to the incident we are switching from bitless to a bit in case it ever happens again so we can at least turn her head in a situation like that.

Stay safe and know when to jump off for you and your horse's sake!

A lovely morning with these two before it got too hot out! Rosie used to spook and bolt forward anytime we were in long grass, she did amazing today! Sweet Luna also had an amazing walk without stopping to eat grass too often. Enjoy the cute clip of her not wanting me to leave after I'd already gone back multiple times to give her cuddles and kisses haha 💜

Today was Lexi's 2nd gotcha day 🎉 as well as the bday I chose for her. She's 7 now and got to drink a beer to celebrate. Our ride today was a mess, it just wasn't our day but luckily it did point out a few things that need work!

After over a year of meaning to put this service out... thank you to all of my clients, but they've kept me far too busy from posting this until now haha.

I'm now introducing online training schedules/packages. These packages include an in person session once to twice a month depending on your needs and in order for me to assess you before putting together your schedule, along with a calendar training plan for the month.

The package options are as follows:
1. Rider Improvement Package
This package will help to work on you as a rider to improve your riding and will be catered to your needs on where you specifically need to improve.

2. Horse Improvement Package
This package will aid in helping to train your horse and get them to the next level and will include exersises that you as a rider can do in your rides or on ground sessions to better them going forward under saddle and reaching your goals!

3. Horse & Rider Fitness Package
This package will cater to keeping both horse and rider in shape and will offer a variety of exersises to either keep you guys show ready or just fit to doodle around.

4. Rehabilitation Package
Have a horse that's coming back from time off or an injury? This package is for you. It will cater to your horse's limitations but also help them in their recovery and getting back on track. Vet reccommendations as well as equine limitations will be taken into consideration while this calendar is put together.

5. Groundwork/Under 3yrs Old Package
Have a horse that needs some groundwork training/something you can't quite ride yet? This is your package. Whether it's an older horse that had picked up a few bad habits, or a baby that you're looking to prepare them before you start under saddle, I'll put together a package to get you guys moving smoothly on the ground and either keeping muscle and fitness or building it.

6. Healthy Retirement Package
Ranging from semi-retired to fully retired horses, this package will have exersises that will help your horse to keep a healthy amount of muscle on or gain muscle where they need it if they have gone downhill. Health problems that can be hindering will be considered whilst your calendar is put together as well as areas where your retiree needs work on.

Some packages will not require an in person session before being put together. During the months you sign up for these packages, lessons, days of the week you're at the barn, massages, etc will be taken into consideration while making these calendars. You are also able to reach out to me at any time if anything pops up so that schedules can be changed or tweaked throughout the month!

Pricing of these programs are set at $200/month plus the price of our in person sessions. Please shoot me a pm for inquiries or questions, or comment below with questions :)

Thanks,
Casie

Sizing up the fence she's jumped to get out of the paddock multiple times now 😂 I think it's safe to say Lex enjoys jumping. Training fences will be going up shortly and I'll have to set aside more days of the week to exercise this girl more often after her escapade this week as the paddock was not the problem. Lots of food and space, she just likes jumping and has energy as unfortunately I wasn't able to get out to ride her too many times last week.

Maggie is now w/t/c under saddle. Walk and trot are great, canter is new so we're now working on steering and speed control at it. I wasn't sure how she'd be going on bitless at first as she was quite difficult to steer but she's come a long way thanks to both my work and her owner doing her given homework with her! She also steers great off of leg at walk and trot given some rein. My relationship building tactics have worked in catching her as well. It's no longer a game of chase when I go out to get her and we can get to work right away 😊

It's been a while since Holly and I have done a groundwork session rather than riding so that's what we did today. She's gotten so much better for lunging over obstacles as well as lowering that head. She still needs a ton of work with her headset but it's coming along with our ridden sessions. Shes also been doing amazing with the kids who can now ride her off the lead line! Very pleased with her today. At the end we worked on mounting and standing still rather than moving the second your foots in the stirrup. This is unfortunately a problem we solved in the past but comes back intermittently. She has moved to a new barn though which can often be the cause of old problems coming back.

Great day working with some OTTB's at Horseshoe Stable as well as working Luna and Rosie in Puslinch today before ending off with a trail ride on Luke 🖤

OTTB's are definitely some of my favourite horses to work with and are one of my specialties when it comes to horse training.

As a trainer, I'm there to work with them, not be friends with them. However when they're hard to catch it takes out of our session time. A hard to catch horse can mean many things. Horses can't tell us what's wrong by speaking, they tell us through body language. When a horse is hard to catch, for me that means they either aren't enjoying their sessions, or I'm not spending enough time on the ground with them... Or they may just not feel like working today. Being hard to catch usually means you need to work on your relationship with your horse.

I don't think there's been a single time where I was able to just walk up to Maggie and catch her right away. It's always been a 5-20 minute game of chasing her around with grain until I can get a rope around her neck and halter her. Now I was told that she was shy and iffy about new people. It's been a month of working with her now though, so she's had time to get to know me. She also wants nothing to do with me the second I turn her back out into her paddock. So today we spent some time at the end of our session just building a relationship. When I came to start Maggie under saddle, her owner had already done groundwork with her so I was sitting on her and riding from day one. Aside from catching her, grooming her and tacking up along with a little bit of lunging, I haven't built a relationship with her from the ground.

I took her halter off to untack and groom at the end of the session and we just spent some time hanging out together in the barn. She could leave whenever she wanted. For the first time today, she also stuck around when I turned her out. We hung out for another 5-10 minutes and I got to give her some attention. Again, not on a lead and without halter, she could leave whenever she wanted. That in itself told me that I'd made the right decision working on a relationship with her. Im looking forward to seeing how she is to catch next time I go out.

That all being said, a hard to catch horse is not something a trainer can fix for you. Maggie is perfect for her owner to catch. My own horse can be hard to catch for other people but comes to the gate for me. It's a relationship problem. If you're having this issue, think about your interactions with your horse each time you go out to see them. Do you ride every time? Do you ever just hang out with them? Do you greet them nicely when you go to catch them? Sometimes all it takes is just going out and spending time with them whether it's in their paddock or you take them out to graze or pamper them. Make it so that they enjoy your time together rather than resent it.
