CBC reports on animal cruelty at African Lion Safari and the sale of elephants to Fort Worth Zoo.

It also mentions African Lion Safari as being one of the worst zoos for animal cruelty in the world.

An animal rights advocacy group has published its annual top 10 worst zoos for captive elephants, with African Lion Safari in Hamilton listed at number one.

20 of the elephants that this bill seeks to protect are at African Lion Safari.

African Lion Safari has used and abused the elephants for rides, shows, and kept them captive in a habitat that is NOT permissible for these beautiful beings.

BOYCOTT ALL ZOOS. Just because a place has an "acreage" does NOT make it suitable for these animals.

Go to a sanctuary instead.

16 Elephants still captive at African LYING Safari, do not fall for the humane washing it is all a lie!

Canada still has some of the worst laws on animal welfare, especially for non-native wildlife. DO NOT SUPPORT ZOOS.

What's so bad about African Lion Safari?

Elephant Riding, Petting, and Bathing.

Elephant rides are among the cruelest tourist activities because of the amount of suffering the elephants endure, physically and emotionally.

In order for zoos and other attractions to allow people to get up close with elephants to pet, bathe, and ride them, they must be cruelly trained to fear people, and obey commands.

Methods typically involve social isolation, physical restraints, inflicting severe pain, and withholding food and water.

Bull-hooks are used at African Lion Safari, on thin areas of the elephant’s skin to cause pain and pressure. This is not trust or cooperation. Elephants give rides to avoid being beaten.

On the African Lion Safari page, they are lying about being a park that promotes conservationism and holding up the CAZA certification as a badge of honor for their hell hole.

ALS’ CAZA accreditation that they hold up to the world to claim they are an ethical organization, required nothing more than a one day visit to the site and does not do a full evaluation of day to day processes. The standards CAZA upholds are open to interpretation and not fully implemented in their accreditation process.
