The illness tends to begin with a cough, lethargy and inappetence and in some dogs worsens to pneumonia and some of these dogs suffer an acute onset and may succumb. The illness tends to equally hit any dog of any age or any breed or mix. It’s transmissible from other dogs – so keeping dogs away from other dogs is suggested. This means no dog day care, no boarding, no dog parks, and being anti-social when encountering other dogs on the street.

There is another new canine respiratory disease spreading throughout the US and and some parts of Canada. This respiratory illness resembles canine influenza, but can quickly turn into pneumonia. I have heard that there are cases in Hamilton.
Please be vigilant where you take your pets on walks, avoid bringing older, sick or very young dogs to areas where they are in close contact with unknown dogs, and ensure your pets' immunizations are up to date.
If your pet has a cough, or worsening cough, unwarranted panting, or is having trouble breathing, call your veterinarian or local emergency veterinarian immediately.

Acorns are falling a little earlier this year so here is the yearly reminder about acorn toxicity

Oak trees and their nuts, known as acorns, contain tannic acid or tannins, which are toxic to dogs. If ingested in small amounts, these tannins can cause symptoms of gastrointestinal upset, including vomiting, diarrhea, and inappetence.

If you find them around your home, you may wonder can dogs eat acorns? To keep your dog safe from harm discover the potential risks associated with acorns.
