Friday, June 21, 2024

National Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada, celebrated on June 21 each year, honours the diverse cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

It’s an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the rich heritage and ongoing achievements of Indigenous peoples in Canada.

This day holds significance as it coincides with the summer solstice, a sacred time for many Indigenous communities, symbolizing renewal, growth, and connection to the land. It was first proclaimed in 1996 and has since been marked by various events and activities across the country.

PET SAFE ALERT: This week's temperatures will range in the high 20's and move into the 30's degrees Celcius. Asphalt will be HOT and can cause the burning of foot pads. Stay on the grassy areas when possible and choose to walk in the early morning, or later at night when things have cooled off.

Provide plenty of cool water and do not overly exercise during the heatwave, pets are subject to heatstroke too!

Today is World Pet Memorial Day, a day to remember the animals who have touched our lives and crossed over the rainbow bridge 🌈 🐾

On this day of reflection, the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society is sharing resources to help cope with loss, as well as ways to honour the memory of our furry friends.

One way to honour a beloved pet is by donating in their name to a local Ontario SPCA animal centre. Your generosity helps give another animal a second chance at a happy life. Tribute gifts can be made year-round on our website, and you can send a card to offer condolences and let the recipient know about your donation.

Prefer to host an event in your pet’s memory? The Ontario SPCA’s Humane Hero fundraising site lets you create your own fundraiser, with all funds raised helping animals in need.

Finding a supportive community during times of grief can make all the difference. Visit ontariospca.ca/pet-loss-support-group/ to learn more about the Ontario Pet Loss Support Group. You will also find resources geared towards children who are grieving the loss of a furry friend.

Did you know Animal Hospital of Cambridge also offers Pet Grooming for Dogs & Cats?

"Coconut" is a gorgeous 2-year-old Himalayan kitty, pictured here with Alexis, RVT, and Pet Groomer. She was bathed and brushed to remove some of the excessive fur she was shedding. "Coconut" was so soft & fluffy after her bath and blow-dry ! ❤

Animal Hospital of Cambridge: Our Story

Dr. Kathy Hrinivich & Dr. Neil Kennedy opened their hearts and their doors of Animal Hospital of Cambridge in 2004. We started with only 6 staff members and today in 2018 we have grown to nearly 60 team members. It’s a big work family full of people who are passionate about the level of care our AAHA accredited hospital provides.

The biggest complement we feel is when our clients refer their own family and friends to us. We pride ourselves on being open 7 days a week 8am to 10pm providing extensive hours of service to care for your pet. We offer a wide array of services like regular routine pet care (vaccines, examinations, digital x-ray, dental cleanings, spaying and neutering) to daytime emergency care (orthopaedics, TPLO repair, PU surgery, Exploratory, C-Sections, +more) to professional pet grooming. One stop shop ! While we know pet care does not come cheap no matter where you go - we will work with pet parents to decide what treatment options will work for their budget. We have also added in Fairstone; a no payment, 0% interest for 3 months O.A.C payment plan option should owners need a little wiggle room to provide their pet with veterinary care.

It is very rewarding providing care to the rescued pets in the Safe & Sound Rescue Project - Veterinarian’s Giving Back. When they arrive sick or injured, our staff works hard to get them better, often volunteering their time until the pet has recovered and finds a new forever home. We love getting updated from the newly adopted pets new family because it makes it all worth while.

We believe pet insurance saves lives and do our best to inform our clients on how insurance can save them money and help to give peace of mind should an unexpected injury or illness pop up. Please be sure to ask us about VIP Pet Insurance next time your in!
